  • This paper deals with the performance comparison of blind adaptive equalization algorithm, the MMA and S-MMA, that is used for compensation of the amplitude and phase distortion simultaneously which occurs in the time dispersive channel. The present CMA algorithm is possible to compensates the amplitude only, but not in phase, so it needs to the another additional circuit for compensating the phase. In order to overcoming the abovemensioned shorthand, the improved cost function is applied to the MMA algorithm. In MMA algorithm, the error is consists of the dispersion constant only, but in S-MMA, the error is consists of the dispersion constant considering the output of decision device (sliced symbol) in order to updating the tap coefficients. By using the two kind error signal, the adaptive equalization algorithm has different performance. In this paper, we compare to the adaptive equalization algorithm performance by using the recovered constellation, residual isi, MD (Maximum Distortion) and SER as a index when the transmitting signal is 16 and 64-QAM and then passing through the same communication channel. As a result of simulation, the S-MMA can improving the Roburstness in SER performance compared to the MMA in the high order QAM signal.

  • This paper is concerned with the performance comparison of CR-CMA (Coordinate Reduction-CMA) and CM-CMA (Constellation Matching-Constant Modulus Algorithm) that is used for improving the convergence characteristic and residual intersymbol interference which are used as the performance index for an adaptive equalizer. The equalizer is used to reduce the distortion caused by the intersymbol interference on the wireless and the wired band-limited channel, and the blind method which does not need for extra bandwidth by the training sequence of digital code are researched. Recently, by using the merit of simple operation in the CMA, the performance improvement is obtained by the modifying the cost function of it. In this paper, the new algorithm, CR-CMA and CM-CMA, the performance analysis are performed and compared by computer simulation. The CR-CMA has a superior equalization characteristics in the recovered constellation, convergence speed and residual intersymbol interference than the CM-CMA by computer simulation.

  • This paper is concerned with the CR-CMA (Coordinate Reduction-Constant Modulus Algorithm) adaptive equalization algorithm using the coordinate reduction in order to improve the convergence characteristic and residual intersymbol interference which are used as the performance index for an adaptive equalizer. The equalizer is used to reduce the distortion caused by the intersymbol interference on the wireless and the wired band-limited channel that connect the transmitting system and receiving system. The CMA is widely known as the representative algorithm for equalization. In order to transmitting the mass information with a high speed through the channels, a fast convergence speed in the equalizer performance that is able to minimize overhead needed for equalization is acquired. In this paper, we introduce the new cost function to reduce the constellation of received signal at the input stage of a equalizer. It reduce the error at the steady equalization state. By the computer simulation, we confirmed that the proposed CR-CMA algorithm has the faster convergence speed and the smaller residual intersymbole interference than the conventional CMA.

  • This paper related with the performance comparison of mSE-MMA and mDSE-MMA adaptive equalization algorithm which is possible to reduce the intersymbol interference that occurs in the nonlinear communication channel transmitting 16-QAM signal. This two algorithm is possible to reduce the computational load compared to the current MMA algorithm, it has the degraded equalization performance due to simplified arithmetic in order to applying the mobile communication terminal. In order to improve the performance degradation, they controls the step size according to the existence of arbitrary radius circle of equalizer output compared to transmitted symbol point. The variation of step size according to this principle is applied to the SE-MMA and DSE-MMA, namely mSE-MMA and mDSE-MMA algorithm, the algorithm's performance were compared in the same channel and noise environment by computer simulation. As a result of simulation, the mSE-MMA has more superior to the mDSE-MMA in residual value of every performance index and SER performance, and the vice versa result in convergence speed.

  • This paper relates with the performance evaluation of QE-MMA (Quantized Error-MMA) adaptive equalization algorithm based on the stepsize and quantizer bit number in order to reduce the intersymbol interference due to nonlinear distortion occurred in the time dispersive channel. The QE-MMA was proposed using the power-of-two arithmetic for the H/W implementation easiness substitutes the multiplication and addition into the shift and addition in the tap coefficient updates process that modifies the SE-MMA which use the high-order statistics of transmitted signal and sign of error signal. But it has different adaptive equalization performance by the step size and quantizer bit number for obtain the sign of error in the generation of error signal in QE-MMA, and it was confirmed by computer simulation. As a simulation, it was confirmed that the convergence speed for reaching steady state depend on stepsize and the residual quantities after steady state depend on the quantizer bit number in the QE-MMA adaptive equalization algorithm performance.

  • The CMA and MCMA adaptive blind equalization algorithm has an inevitable error caused by mismatching between the original constellation at the steady state after the equalization and the unique constellation. This problem is due to considering the new type constellation(constant modulus, reduced constellation) as desired constellation. In this paper, we propose a new adaptive blind equalization algorithm which can reach to the steady state with rapid convergence speed and achive the improvement of error value in the steady state. The Proposed algorithm has a new error function using the decided original constellation instead of the reduced constellation. By computer simulation, it is comfirmed that the proposed algorithm has the performance superiority in terms of residual ISI and convergence speed compared with the adaptive blind equalization algorithm of CMA family, Constant Modulus Algorithm with Carrier Phase Recovery and Modified CMA(MCMA).

  • Single-Carrier Frequency division multiplexing (SC-FDM) has been selected for the uplink transmission technique in 3GPP-LTE since it has an advantage of low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in user's perspective. The receiver typically uses a frequency domain equalizer, which, however, suffers from noise boost and/or residual ISI especially when the channel has deep nulls. In this paper, we propose using turbo equalizer to mitigate such a problem. We provide link level performance comparison and an insight into how many iteration is needed for reasonable performance and complexity.

  • The performance of blind equalization algorithm ISCA was compared with MSCA that is used for the minimization of the inter symbol interference which occurs in the time dispersive communication channel for digital transmission. Because of the non-linearities of a magnitude and phase transfer characteristics of a communication channel, the transmitting signal will be received that band limited and time dispersived. Therefore the distortion was compensated by using the self adaptive equalizer at the receiving side, then passing through the detector for the decision of "1" or "0". At this time the Constellation Dependent Constant is played an important role in the adaptive equalizer used on the receiver. In order to calculation of this constant, the ISCA and MSCA was used the second order statistics. The ISCA and MSCA which are possible to compensation of mensioned transfer function simulataneously, are improved the performance of original SCA algorithm and then was compared the performance by computer simulation. For this, the recovered constellation, residual isi and MSE was used, and a result of performance comparison, the ISCA algorithm has better than the MSCA in every performance index. But on the steady state of equalizer, the variation of performance due to the CME terms in the MSCA equalization algorithm was less than the ISCA, so MSCA has better stability.

  • This paper relates with the VS-QE-MMA (Varying Stepsize-Quantized Error-MMA) based on the varying stepsize for improving the equalization performance in the QE-MMA adaptive equalization algorithm that is possible to reducing the intersymbol interference occurred at channel. The SE-MMA use the high-order statistics of transmitted signal and sign of error signal. The QE-MMA was appeared for the H/W implementation easiness substitutes the multiplication and substraction into the shift and substraction in the updating the tap coefficient based on the power-of-two operation of error signal magnitude. The QE-MMA gives degradation of equalization performance due to the such simplification of arithmetic operation. For improving this problem, the propose algorithm, namely VS-QE-MMA, applies the varying stepsize of the nonlinear transformation of error signal. It was confirmed by simulation that the VS-QE-MMA gives better performance than current QE-MMA in the same channel and signal to noise ratio. As a result of simulation, the VS-QE-MMA has more better performance in the every performance index, and it was also confirmed that the varying stepsize effect can be obtained in the greater than 10dB of signal to noise ratio.
