Factors of Community Capacity Influencing Rural Community Satisfaction - Moderating Effects of Community Attachment - (농촌 지역사회 주민역량이 지역사회 만족에 미치는 영향 - 지역사회 애착도의 조절효과 -)

  • Community attachment is an important variable for affecting community satisfaction. The study aims to identify the factors influencing community satisfaction on rural community capacity. Particularly, the study examine the moderating effects of the community attachment between community capacity and community satisfaction. Data were collected from 289 residents of rural villages through questionnaires. Results of a factor analysis yielded four dimensions of community capacity which are learning opportunity and technique, leadership, grasping problem, and community attitude. Results show that learning opportunity and community attitude among four dimensions of community capacities have significance for community satisfaction. And community attachment among community capacity factors has a positive effects as a moderator between community capacity and community satisfaction. Results also indicated that community attitude has an interactional effects with moderator. It was suggested that community attachment should be considered in rural community development policy.

A Classification of Multi-habitation and Site Survey of the Related Lifestyles (멀티헤비테이션의 유형화 및 관련 주생활 라이프스타일 현황조사)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify multi-habitation, a new phenomenon in which inhabitants in urban areas reside in primarily condominiums on weekdays and retreat to dwellings in rural areas on weekends, and to examine the various life styles related to multi-habitation. Through the interviews and site surveys, three major subtypes of multi-habitation were identified to support the theoretical framework: interchange style, sedentary style, and special style. Findings include that first, in order to discuss multi-habitation, the terms primary home and secondary home are introduced. Based on the concept of primary home and secondary home, a variety of multi-habitation can be described using spatial locations in urban and rural areas. Second, systematic deregulation for the second home ownership should be made to promote citizens' interchange. Also urban residents should make more efforts to integrate into rural communities. Third, for some remote areas such as Cheju Island, it is observed that multi-habitation is limited by cost, time, and lifestyle.

  • The purpose of this study is to perform an analysis on the design methods of the "UR Housing Stock Renewal Design Competition" for Hanahata No.27 Housing by the UR Renaissance Agency in Japan. The analysis is done by looking at the aspects of lifestyle, demographics, environment, and community changes. The results are as follows: 1) Since demographic changes are caused by low fertility, aging populations need the support of locally-based social welfare facilities of which the architectural aspect can be examined. 2) Changes in lifestyle, such as diversity of family composition, flexibility of work, and improvement of leisurely activities require residents to have public spaces and facilities 3) Since environmental changes caused by deteriorated housing need the conversion of awareness about housing estates as a social asset. 4) To revitalize the community, houses, public facilities, and communal outdoor spaces must be connected. The results of this study are expected to serve as clues to the future direction of sustainable conversion in Korea.

Case Analysis of Machizukuri in Japan from the Perspective of Sustainable Community (지속가능한 커뮤니티 관점에서 본 일본의 마을만들기 사례 분석)

  • Community building in Japan, called Machizukuri, has been in existence since the 1960s, and many successful cases are referred to by researchers and public service officials as benchmarks for creating livable cities and towns in Korea. The purpose of this study is to identify the building factors for a sustainable community and to suggest implications through the cases of machizukuri in Japan. Based on the literature review related to the research topic, on-site visit case study was used as the major research methodology. Four cases -Setagaya, Kawagoe, Motomachi, and Manazuru- were selected as the research subjects and interviews with the representatives of the community(resident) council and public officials were conducted during October 19-22, 2011. The project overview, purpose, and planning characteristics of each case were described for data analysis. The major findings are as follows. Although most of the machizukuri in Japan were administration-dependent at the beginning stage, the case projects in this study showed resident-independence (self-support) from the perspective of sustainability. The results showed that successful community building is an everlasting project that requires cooperation among personnels including residents, civic officials, and related council members.

The Role of Institution for Family-Friendly Community Initiated by Local People - The Case Study of Livable Community Making Projects - (주민주도적인 가족친화마을만들기를 위한 기관의 역할 - 살기좋은마을만들기 사례분석을 중심으로 -)

  • Locals' initiating the community making projects is considered as a good approach in terms of the effectiveness, sustainability and government's budget. But there are not the local institutions' support, while local people alone may face difficulties in starting and managing the projects. This study is to explore the roles of the institutions for starting and managing the family-friendly communities. For this purpose, 18 secondary source cases from the livable community making projects were analyzed. And the major findings of this study were as follows: The (local) institutions need to gain credibility from the locals before starting the family-friendly community project. In the motivation steps, the institution performs the role of a proposer, a survey researcher, an opinion gatherer and mediator. In the systematization steps, the institution needs to perform as a mentor, a developer of human and non-human resources, a conflict mediator, an education practitioner, an instructor, a networker, and an administrative staff. In the execution steps, the institution needs to perform as a cultural program planner, a public relations personnel, and an assessor. In conclusion, the institution needs to train community coordinator and develop programs to educate local residents for the effective family-friendly community projects.

  • The introduction of a ubiquitous environment has realized commercial ubiquitous services in various industrial fields and government area. The central and/or local governments are demanding an appropriate investment evaluation model for ubiquitous service. Thus, this study develops and suggests an evaluation model for ubiquitous service by reflecting its characteristic of promoting public good, as well as its broad ripple effect on people. The investment evaluation model for ubiquitous service suggested by this study is based on Cost Benefit Analysis Method. Especially, the 'Benefit' is analyzed in two aspects; 'Economic Benefit', which shows the benefit that ubiquitous service providers to the overall local economy, and; 'Financial Benefit', which shows the profit of individual investors participating in the introduction of ubiquitous service. The investment evaluation model for ubiquitous service suggested by this study can be used by the central and/or local government during their evaluation for investment before introducing a ubiquitous service. Also, when introducing a ubiquitous service in public field, the model can be used to support the decision making of private businesses for investment. Finally, it can be used to promote and inform the expected benefits of introducing a ubiquitous service to local residents.

The Demands for Housing Regeneration of the Permanent Rental Apartment Dwellers -With Special Reference to Man-soo 7 Complex in Incheon- (영구임대아파트 거주자 주거지 재생 수요조사 연구 - 인천 만수주공 7단지 거주자를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to collect baseline data about the demands for housing regeneration of the permanent rental apartment dwellers. Self-administered questionaires and interviews were provided to 144 dwellers in Incheon Man-soo 7 complex from 2008 December 29th to 31st. The collected data was used to conduct comparative and descriptive statistical analysis: frequency, t-test, and $X^2$-test. The main findings are as follows : 1. House repairing and papering is most common used service by respondents. They also have much need for economic support. 2. Residents were satisfied with general environment of house. This survey showes that the highest satisfaction was about using food waste disposal sites. and the lowest satisfaction was about soundproof facilities on the other hand, among the questions. 3. Dwellers wanted to remodeling such as bathroom, restroom, a flower garden, space of landscape architecture. More than half dwellers preferred to leave among themselves living at permanent rental apartment as it is. 4. There is important difference in the demands of housing regeneration as the family trait. and variables of those were nuclear family or elderly/handicapped-family.

  • To be Low Carbon and Green Growth, it is necessary that Long-Life Housing based on Green Technology is supplied. The main concern at the moment is developing Sustainable Housing relative to Life-Cycle or Life-Style of the residents, and the resident of Remodeling or Redevelopment. This study is aim to be Development of Maintenance Process in order to make steady dwelling when supplying Long-Life Housing that separates Support(Skeleton) and Infill different from the existing Short-Life Housing, and has durability, alterability, available remodeling, easy maintenance. Long-Life Housing should consider the maintenance about movement and variableness. In contrast, the maintenance of the existing Housing is regular maintenance, change and repair by damage. As well as Long-Life Housing should be demanded proper Development of Maintenance Process because of difference of Housing in concept, design and Construction. Therefore, this study looks into problems when applying Development of Maintenance Process in Long-Life Housing, and shows Development of Maintenance Process about the efficient Long-Life Housing for the manager.

The Study on Change of Lighting Color for Behavior of Residents in Living Room Space of Apartment (아파트거실공간에서의 거주자 행태를 고려한 조명색 변경에 관한 연구)

  • Today, apartment is the most common residence type and various behavior occurs in living room space of apartments. Active usage of living room in modem life increases user's desire of wanting a better environment and leads to find various methods such as remodeling. At the point when considering moving or remodeling, this study focuses on the change of lighting color as it is one of the methods for initial stage with moderate price. As living room is easily influenced by lighting, providing active environment to support inhabitant's behavior through the use of various lighting sources will cut down unnecessary remodeling costs and may be the most simple method to actualize lighting environment for inhabitant's behavior. To give change with the least effort, change in artificial lighting environment was attempted with combinations of lighting color and switching on lights according to illuminating location. This study suggested the capability of changing lighting environment of previous living room area by exchanging lighting sources in lighting equipment in order to satisfy the required behaviors of inhabitant.
