Performance Management System for Benchmarking in Construction Companies

  • In competitive society, performance management is an essential element of business success. Despite the importance of performance management, it has not been widely implemented in construction companies. In the recent years, construction companies have become more aware of its need to identify, implement, and sustain performance improvements more systematically. Thus, the objective of this paper is to develop performance management system (PMS) for construction companies. The roles of performance management system is not only measuring performance but also offering guidance to improve performance. Therefore, PMS needs benchmarking process that provides Best Practice and new knowledge. This paper investigates the case of PMSs in UK, USA, Brazil, and Chile and discusses the lessons learned. To overcome the limitations of existing PMSs, new performance measurement framework, in form of 'Construction' BSC, is proposed. Based on the 'Construction' BSC, key performance indicators are derived and methodology of performance management is suggested. This paper concludes by developing PMS for benchmarking in construction companies and recommending some further directions on this research topic.

Research on disaster management personnel improvement measure of local government

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the disaster management system of local governments by diagnosing the current status of disaster management experts in Korea, deriving problems and improvement measures, and looking at local governments' total labor cost system. The status and status of disaster management personnel were compared and analyzed to find ways to improve the local government's disaster management response system under the Framework Act on Disaster and Safety Management in Korea. Considering Korea's reality, because national security and disaster management exist together, we devised a plan to improve on-site response capabilities and seek solutions by deriving the problems of the currently operating security and safety-related organizations.

  • In this research, the concept of CM (configuration management) is introduced for proper applications to the life-cycle product data management. In addition, the activities for CM - CM management and planning, configuration identification, configuration control, configuration status accounting, and configuration verification and audit - are described in detail. For the management of distributed configuration data among governments, prime contractors, and subcontractors, development environments and functions for the configuration management information system (CMIS) are proposed.

  • 현재 연속성관리체계로 가장 널리 사용되고 있는 BCM(Business Continuity Management) 또는 BCP(Business Continuity Planning)을 기반으로 한 금융분야의 모범규준 및 구축사례는 많이 있었으나, 민간의 시설관리 분야 및 공공기관의 국가기반 체계에 실질적으로 적용 가능한 표준화된 연속성관리체계 구축 프레임워크에 대한 연구는 미미한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 국내외 연속성관리 프레임워크의 비교와 시설관리 분야의 특성을 고려한 연속성관리 구성요소의 검토를 통해 민간 시설관리 분야 및 공공기관에 적합한 시설관리 분야의 연속성관리체계 구축 프레임워크를 모색하는 연구를 하고자 한다.

  • The railroad facilities are intended for long-term operation as the initial acquisition costs necessary for infrastructure construction are high. Therefore, regular maintenance of railroad facilities is essential, and furthermore, system reliability through systematic performance evaluation is required. In this study, the signal control system of railroad electrical equipment was selected as the subject of research and the performance evaluation target facility selection study was conducted using AHP. The results of the study can contribute to the reliability of the signal control system as well as to the reliability of the railroad system, which is a higher system.

BIM지침의 통합관리를 위한 구조화에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development of Framework Based BIM Guideline System)

  • As various contractors have been asking BIM data in the construction industry, BIM guidelines and standards has become increasingly important these days. Above all, BIM guidelines should be established properly because it is utilized at the earliest stage of BIM data creation. However, each of the existing BIM guidelines was totally different by contractors, disciplines or phases so that it caused problems about repetitious work, inefficient management and so on. In order to overcome these problems, we suggest integrated management system for BIM guidelines. We firstly collected and analyzed existing guidelines, secondly standardized guideline phrases and lastly constructed data structure of integrated management system. This integrated management system is expected to increase work efficiency to avoid working error for designers and enable easy creation or revision of BIM guidelines for contractors.
