In this paper, The concept of a wheel with carbon fiber composite is to replace the conventional material used for a wheel hub, such as plastic, with a disk-type hub made of carbon fabric and epoxy resin. The impact load from the ground under real conditions was considered; a low-velocity impact test was conducted to evaluate the impact performance of the carbon wheel and compare it with that of a conventional plastic wheel. This study applied a 70 J impact load as a test condition. The impact energy was controlled in the test by adjustment of height and weight of impactor. The use of a carbon disk wheel hub was confirmed to reduce weight and generate an excellent repulsive force at low energy under conditions similar to real driving conditions. The results showed that the maximum load increased proportionally depending on the impact load, but the growth of the maximum load was reduced at a 20 J impact load and tended to decrease at a 45 J impact load. The carbon wheel showed excellent properties ; the level of rebounding was 35.3% and 19.1% of the total impact energy at impact loads of 5 J and 10 J, respectively. On the other hand, the carbon disk wheel rebounded less than 5% of the total energy due to crack generation of the thin carbon hub for impact loads of more than 20 J.

We have synthesized two types of diamine monomers containing various chain length to prepare polyimides with layered structure. By using these diamines, homo-polyimides and co-polyimides having hydrophobic and hydrophilic segment of flexible side chain were synthesized. The segregated layered structures were formed by repulsive force with main chain as the side chains reach a critical length because the rigid main chains are packed into layered structure with the flexible side chains occupying the space between layers. As a result, the gallery space of each homo-polyimide was increased at spacing of $32.7\~48{\AA}\;or\;7\~10.5{\AA}$ as the increased hydrophobic or hydrophilic side chain length through X-ray diffraction. The gallery space of co-polyimides was also showed similar phenomenon by repulsive force of side chains with different properties. We have also confirmed that gallery space and molar volume were significantly depended on length of flexible side chain via molecular modeling.
In order to elucidate the granular heaping phenomenon, the movement behaviors of 3 different types of granule (millet, sand and thin foil disc) have been investigated by applying the vertical or the rotational vibration to each of the 3 vessels, respectively containing one of the 3 types of granule. In case of vertical vibrations, all of them showed the heaping phenomenon like Gerner's simulation, and that in the order of the millet, sand and thin foil disc, regardlessly of weight. Especially, a heaping of disc granules was proven to be relatively delayed, and that with several small complex clutters. For rotational vibration, the central area of vessel turned out to rise up due to the repulsive force by vessel wall as well as the collision between elastic granules, right after the turning point of vibration. Even spiral pattern was made when the rotational vibration amplitude got higher. From these facts, one can see that the heaping be characterized by the inclusion of attractive granules as well as the vibrational type applied to granule vessel.

IN order to gain a fundamental data for forecast or control of fish behavior and evaluated the feasibility of an application of the modeling technique to a field, in this paper a numerical model for describing the behavior of fishes in a water tank was presented. The parameters of the model were estimated by using the time-series data on the three-dimensional position of fishes and by applying the least squares algorithm. The estimated parameters were standardized to examine the variation of parameters according to the number of individuals and flow speed that the mean values of parameters were to be zero and their variances were to be one. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: (1) The standardized parameter $a^*$of propulsive force decreased according to increased the number of individuals and the flow speed. (2) The standardized parameter ${k_b}^*$ of interactive force increased according to increased the number of individuals, but decreased according to the flow speed. (3) The standardized parameter ${k_c}^*$ of schooling force increased according to │increased the number of individuals and the flow speed. (4) The standardized parameter │${k_w}^{+*}$│ of repulsive force against wall or bottom increased according to increased the number of individuals, but decreased according to the flow speed. (5) The standardized parameter │${k_w}^{-*}$│ of attractive force against wall or bottom was generally constant according to increased the number of individuals, but increased according to the flow speed. (6) The standardized parameter $\upsilon$ super(*) of damping force increased according to increased the number of individuals, but decreased according to the flow speed.
The rejection of hardness in a lactate fermentation broth was investigated by NTR-729 nanofiltration membrane. Firstly, a method for determining membrane surface charge was proposed on the basis of the rejection data for NaCl, $Na_2SO_4$, $MgCl_2$, $MgSO_4$ solutions. It was found that the NTR-729 membrane was negatively charged. The rejection of $Mg^{2+}$ ions in model solution of lactate was over 80% with lactate concentrations. But the rejection of $Mg^{2+}$ ions in fermentation broth of lactate was about 40 %. This results was caused by anions paired with $Mg^{2+}$ ions. It was found that the repulsive force of monovalent anions with membrane was almost few through an experiment of a mixed solution of NaCl/ $Na_2SO_4$. So the rejection of $Mg^{2+}$ ion in a fermentation broth was lower than that in a model solution because $Mg^{2+}$ ions permeated to the membrane with various monovalent anions.

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was performed to study the stress induced grain boundary migration caused by the interaction of dislocations with a gain boundary. The simulation was carried out in a Ni block (295020 atoms) with a ∑ = 5 (210) grain boundary and an embedded atom potential for Ni was used for the MD calculation. Stress was provided by indenting a diamond indenter and the interaction between Ni surface and diamond indenter was assumed to have a fully repulsive force to emulate a faction free surface. Results showed that the indentation nucleated perfect dislocations and the dislocations produced stacking faults in the form of a parallelepiped tube. The parallelepiped tube consisted of two pairs of parallel dislocations with Shockley partials and was produced successively during the penetration of the indenter. The dislocations propagated along the parallelepiped slip planes and fully merged onto the ∑ = 5 (210) grain boundary without emitting a dislocation on the other grain. The interaction of the dislocations with the grain boundary induced the migration of the grain boundary plane in the direction normal to the boundary plane and the migration continued as long as the dislocations merged onto the grain boundary plane. The detailed mechanism of the conservative motion of atoms at the gram boundary was associated with the geometric feature of the ∑ = 5 (210) grain boundary.

This study investigated the effect of various cations ($Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Al^{3+}$, $Mn^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$) on the autoaggregation (AAg) and surface hydrophobicity (SHb) of three different bacteria (Brevibacillus panacihumi strain (ZB1), Lysinibacillus fusiformis strain (ZB2) and Enterococcus faecalis strain (ZL)) using a 2-level factorial design. The AAg ratio was measured from the changes in the absorbance of the media. Results show that ZB2 had maximum AAg for the three bacteria investigated. A microscopic clustering of cells was observed when $Ca^{2+}$ was added to ZB2. The AAg was in the range of 62%, 58% and 34% for ZB2, ZB1 and ZL, respectively and correlated to the SHb. The aggregation and SHb of the microbial cells increased with increasing ionic strength due to the repulsive steric or overlap forces between the polymer covered surfaces. $Ca^{2+}$ demonstrated a more significant effect on aggregation and SHb of microbial cells due to an attractive binding force.

We have used a novel liquid surface forces apparatus to determine the variation of disjoining pressure with film thickness for dodecane-water-dodecane emulsion films. The LSFA allows measurement of film thicknesses in the range 5-100 nm and disjoining pressure from 0-1500 Pa. Disjoining pressure isotherms are given for films stabilised by the nonionic surfactnat n-dodecyl pentaoxyethylene glycol ether$(C_{12}E_5)$ and n-decyl-$\beta$-D-glucopyranoside($C_{10}- $\beta$-Glu)$ and the anionic surfactant sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulphosuccinate(AOT) in the presense of added electrolyte. For $C_{12}E_5$ and AOT, the emulsion films are indefinitely stable even for the highest concentration of NaCl tested (136.7 Nm) whereas the $C_{10}-{eta}-Glu$ film shows coalescence at this salt concentration. For film thicknesses greater than approximately 20 nm with all three surfactants, the disjoining pressure isotherms are reasonably well described in terms of electrostatic and van der Waals, forces. For the nonionic surfactant emulsion films, the charge properties of the monolayers are qualitatively similar to those seen for foam films. For AOT emulsion films, the monolayer surface potentials estimated by fitting the isotherms are similar to the values of the zeta potential measured for AOT stabilised emulsion droplets. For thin emulsion films certain systems showed isotherms which suggested the presence of an additional repulsive force with a range of approximately 20 nm.
The distributions of the SMD and behavior of 2% $NH_4H_2PO_4$ spray discharged from a fan-spray twin fluid type nozzle are measured and observed. The spray characteristics, according to the variation in the applied voltages, are demonstrated using the PMAS (particle Motion Analysis System) and the CCD camera, respectively. The preliminary experiments are executed to select an optimum condition for solidifying a galvanized coating layer in the uncharged condition before carrying out the main experiments. The liquid and air pressure of $0.07kgf/cm^2\;and\;0.15kgf/cm^2$ can be considered the optimum conditions to use in the main experiment. As the applied voltage increases, the frequent range of relatively large droplets diminishes. Thus, the distributions of drop diameter in the charged spray are more uniform than these in the uncharged condition. This is explained by recognizing that repulsive forces among droplets with the charges of the same sign cause them to be uniform.

This paper presents an implementation of autonomous navigation of a mobile robot indoors. It explains methods for map building, localization, obstacle avoidance and path planning. Geometric map is used for localization and path planning. The localization method calculates sensor data based on the map for comparison with the real sensor data. Monte Carlo Localization(MCL) method is adopted for estimation of the robot position. For obstacle avoidance, an artificial potential field generates repulsive and attractive force to the robot. Dijkstra algorithm plans the shortest distance path from a start position to a goal point. The methods integrate into autonomous navigation method and implemented for indoor navigation. The experiments show that the proposed method works well for safe autonomous navigation.
