The purpose of the study was to develop evaluation methods which would measure student achievement and progress without traditional paper-pencil tests such as mid-term and final examinations. More specifically, the main research focus were to establish general directions of student assessment during free semester, to build evaluation models supporting student's participation and learning, and to report and record various student evaluation results. As research results, we found that student evaluation of free semester should be organized to improve a) experience learning activity, self-regulatory and collaboratory study, b) high-order thinking ability and character-building, and c) teacher-student-parent cooperation. Since traditional paper-pencil tests were restricted in free semester, student achievement should be provided by a way of performance descriptions on transcripts rather than quantitative grade points. Student performance descriptions had to show not only subject knowledge but also students efforts, motivation, and participation. These multiple and educationally meaningful information would be collected by teacher-student-parent communication and collaboration.
This study was to propose new formats for the records of achievement and the student's school life. For the college entrance examination to select excellent students with great potential and for the public education to be normalized through performance assessment, the implications of the reformats of the student achievement are significant. To carry out the study, 658 of students, 230 of teachers from 4 middle schools and 10 high schools, and 24 of college admission officers from 8 universities participated in the questionaries that asked the problems of the current assessment system and the future directions based on the desirable reformats of the school records. The collected opinions and advices from the participants were considered to understand the current status, possible directions, and ways to apply the performance assessment to the college entrance examination.
The Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) approach is described as an immersive argument-based science inquiry focusing particularly on learning through epistemic practices. In the literature, several previous studies indicate how academic achievement is positively influenced by the SWH. In addition to these previous studies, several meta-syntheses of qualitative data have been conducted on this particular topic. With these literatures in mind, a quantitative meta-analysis was conducted with ten studies (N = 724) to examine the effectiveness of the SWH on student achievement in Turkey. To present a thoroughly detailed report, this study also examined the following moderators: grade level, subject area, school location, intervention length, and report source. Overall, this study found that in Turkey, the SWH classrooms performed better in academic achievement tests than traditional lecture-based classrooms. Additionally, the SWH is more likely to be effective regardless of grade levels, subject areas, and school locations.
This study is to develop assessment framework, test items and questionnaire for the National Assessment of Educational Achievement(NAEA), which administered in the elementary and secondary schools across the country in this year(2000). According to the first year study result of the NAEA, the test was administered in two core subjects, Mathematics and Social Studies. In this study, test items and sets of questionnaire and administered pretest were developed in the last year. In this year, the NAEA was administered with the adjusted test items and questionnaires and the results was analyzed and would be reported to the public. NAEA was developed on the basis of national curriculum, especially of the nature and objectives of subject curriculum in Mathematics (and also Social Studies). In the framework of assessment, we set up four differentiated levels of student achievement:‘under basic’,‘basic’,‘intermediary’, and ‘advanced’. Here ‘the intermediary level’means the level of educational achievement in which students can understand average content of subject curriculum. ‘Advanced level ’indicates the level of educational achievement in which students master all the content of subject curriculum and apply basic concepts and principles to a variety of situations. ‘The basic level’means the level of educational achievement in which students do not achieve the intermediary level. Students who do not understand average content of subject curriculum are classified as belonging to the basic level. Finally, this study would explain how to administer and analyze the test int he future. The test result was analyzed to report students’s educational achievement according to regions, content area, behavioral characteristics, and etc. This study would show how to report test results and how to set up student’s academic achievement.
This paper compares and analyzes mathematics teachers' understanding of students' mathematical comprehension after experiences with the Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) or the Development of Mathematical Ideas (DMI) teaching strategies. This report sheds light on current issues confronted by the educational system in the context of mathematics teaching and learning. In particular, the declining rate of mathematical literacy among adolescents is discussed. Moreover, examples of CGI and DMI teaching strategies are presented to focus on the impact of these teaching styles on student-centered instruction, teachers' belief, and students' mathematical achievement, conceptual understanding and word problem solving skills. Hence, with a gradual enhancement of reformed ways of teaching mathematics in schools and the reported increase in student achievement as a result of professional development with new teaching strategies, teacher professional development programs that emphasize teachers' understanding of students' mathematical comprehension is needed rather than the currently dominant traditional pedagogy of direct instruction with a focus on teaching problem solving strategies.

This survey examined sex role identities (androgyny, masculinity, femininity, and undifferentiated), gender, and academic achievement scores from an international sampling of college students. For a comparison, American students and Korean students responded to survey questions on the Bem Sex Role Inventory and the Korean Sex Role Inventory respectively, reported family socio-economic status and achievement scores on the American College Testing (ACT) or Korean Scholastic Ability Test (KSAT). Results in this study indicate that a higher percentage of American students report an androgynous or undifferentiated gender role identity than do Koreans, while Korean students are more likely to show a feminine gender role identity than Americans. Although American students reported higher levels of androgyny in their gender role identity, those who fit the feminine gender role identity group showed higher ACT scores than other gender role identity types. However, in the Korean sample, the masculine gender role identity produced a higher academic achievement for both males and females.

Our students are shocked by the results that there is an inverse proportion between academic achievement and life satisfaction. Recently, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) published the PISA 2015 Student Well-Being Report. According to the report, Korean students' education is the highest among OECD countries, but their life satisfaction is the 47th ranked among the 48 OECD and non-OECD countries.[1] This is the cause of the unilateral education using collective achievement in evaluation methods. Therefore, I propose a personalized integrated model utilizing block chain technology. I suggest a personalized education and evaluation system model using selective education and personal approval rather than from teachers' unilateral education. This will no longer open the student's achievement grade system to the public. This change will be accomplished utilizing block chain technology. This technology is characterized by security, transparency and dispersion. The result of this work can be used to improve students' quality of living through a management system of personalized education and evaluation, based on the nature of education.

Experiments done in traditional physics laboratories have been criticized for giving too detailed instruction so that student could follow the experimental procedure without understanding. This type of experiment is often called "cookbook experiment." Cookbook experiment was known to be little help to understand the physics concepts and to increase student interest. To solve these problems with traditional cookbook experiment, non-directive introductory physics laboratory was designed and tried with the freshmen of Department of Physics Education of Seoul National University. Non-directive laboratory was characterized by the lack of step by step instruction for students to follow. The instruction students received consisted of the goal of experiment, a short introduction, and a list of suggested materials to be used. Student designed the experimental procedure and decided what material they wanted to use. One group submitted one lab report as a group to encourage cooperation among students. Lab report could be written in any form students wanted and no penalty point was given to poor data or inappropriate theory, etc to encourage taking risks. Penalty points were given if the students did not get involved during class hours. Student received extra point for being creative and / or working hard. Teaching assistants used Socratic dialogue in helping students to find their own way instead of explaining what they had to do. Students' interest about the non-directive experiment was studies at the of the semester. A questionnaire was made for students to answer. The questionnaire consisted of four categories, the equipment and the laboratory, the experimental procedure, the lab report, and teaching assistant. For each category, student were asked to explain the differences from other laboratory classes, features they liked and the reasons why they do, features they did not like and why they did not. At the end of the questionnaire, students were asked what hey wanted to change and what they did not. They also could put any opinion they had other than the questions asked. Student overall opinion was very positive. All the students said they liked the lack of detailed experimental procedure because it gave them the feeling of achievement, made them feel challenged and think in more diverse and creative ways. Students liked the lab report because group report forced them to discuss more and the free form lab report helped them to focus on the what they did. Student responses about the teaching assistant was also positive but not as enthusiastic as the experimental procedure or lab report. However students recognised that the role of the teaching assistant was as a guide, a supporter, or a facilitator.
Comparing online and paper-based environment for report submission and correction, the former supersedes to the latter, since (1) the turn-around time becomes shorter, (2) teaching opportunity increases, and (3) as a consequence, the student's achievement level becomes higher in the online environment. In this paper, we propose an annotation tool GABA for PDF document in order to reduce correction time by the teachers and to facilitate instruction to students. In a usual class, the same or similar assignments are given to the students. Then it is often the case that many students make similar mistakes. A teacher can register and classify common correction comments to GABA. Report correction time becomes significantly shorter by reusing the registered comments. GABA also provides various support functions in order to assist efficient checking of numerous report files such as (1) sorting of frequently-used comments, (2) similarity-based file sorting, and (3) cross tabulation of comments using category and weight.
