Primary subacute pyogenic osteomyelitis, or Brodie's abscess has received much attention since its initial documentation in the literature in 1832 by Sir Benjamin Brodie. Brodie's abscess is a localized form of chronic osteomyelitis that occurs most often in the metaphyseal area of the long bones of the lower extremities of young adults, Intermittent pain of long duration is the presenting complaint, along with local tenderness over the affected area. Laboratory evaluation is unrevealing, with a normal white blood cell count and differential count. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate may also be normal. Roentgenogram shows a markedly varied appearance and an abscess may be easily mistaken for various neoplasm. The most common organism cultured from abscess is Staphylococcus species. Treatment includes curettage of the lesion and administration of antibiotics. We present a case report (with a 1-year follow-up period), demonstrating the successful surgical treatment of Brodie's abscess of the distal metaphysis of the left tibia caused by Salmonella cholerasuis in a 33-year-0ld male who had no hemoglobinopathy.

Pachydermodactyly is a rare distinct form of fibromatosis characterized by acquired, asymptomatic dense fibrosis and fibroblastic proliferation around one or more proximal interphalangeal joints. Intralesional triamcinolone injection may be helpful in improving the clinical appearance. A 20-year-old unemployed female patient gave a four years history of progressive swelling of the fingers affecting predominantly the proximal interphalangeal joints of index fingers of left hand and index, middle fingers of right hand. There was no pain and tenderness. Physical examination, complete blood count, antinuclear antibody, rheumatoid factor were unremarkable and radiograph of both hands showed soft tissue swelling only without bony abnormality. We excised the redundant soft tissue from the both sides of proximal interphalangeal joint with longitudinal elliptical fashion. After operation, the fingers of the patient showed marked improvement cosmetically. There were no motor or sensory changes. Pachydermodactyly was first reported in 1996 in Korea. Histologic features include an increased dermal accumulation of collagen and occasionally an increased number of fibroblast. We report for one patient with pachydermodactyly treated with longitudinal elliptical excision and obtained an improvement of clinical appearance.

In the present paper, the regulatory compliance on the report responsibility relating to marine pollution prevention working plan for ship recycling in accordance with the Marine Environment Management Law in Korea was examined. In addition, plans to raise the regulatory compliance based on the results of the regulatory compliance questionnaire survey and interview between the concerned parties were suggested. The result of the regulatory compliance revealed that the degree of regulatory compliance of all groups is 52.7%, the government official group is 56.5%, marine industry related group is 48.6% and ship recycling group is 48.6%. Counterplans to raise the regulatory compliance, such as public relations for the ship recycling and marine industry related group and the development of simple standardized report form were suggested based on the results of the regulatory compliance survey.

The vasodilatory shock after cardiopulmonary bypass is defined as the condition involving severe and persistent form of hypotension, tachycardia, normal or increased cardiac output and decreased systemic vascular resistance. Because of the unsuccessful response to infusion of fluids or catecholamine vasopressors, a sustained systemic shock state occurs and results in a high morbidity and mortality. We successfully treated this syndrome of 3 patients after open heart surgery with low dose of arginine vasopressin(AVP). Therefore, we report these cases with a review of related articles.

Recurrent pneumothorax was associated with the menstrual cycle in two women 20 to 30 years age; this is referred to as catamenial pneumothorax. This form of pneumothorax occurs within 72 hours before or after the onset of menstruation. The pathophysiology underlying this condition is unknown. We report here on two cases of catamenial pneumothorax that were successfully treated by partial resection of the diaphragm.

In case of lateral cervical cystic lesions, the differential diagnoses include branchial cleft cyst(BCC), teratoma, dermoid, hemangioma and lymphangioma etc. But sometimes metastatic cystic lymph nodes may exist in lateral neck. In such circumstance, the primary lesions are known to stem from oropharynx, nasopharynx, salivary and thyroid gland etc. A-66-year-old-male came to our clinic, due to the lateral cervical mass for 5 years. We performed the neck CT, sonography and sono-guided FNAC. He was initially diagnosed with the benign cyst such as BCC. We performed the excisional biopsy on left level II, but the pathologic report was revealed as metastatic papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC). And then he received the total thyroidectomy with neck dissection. The final diagnosis was cystic metastasis from PTC. We learn a valuable lesson form this case in the following. Even if the simple cervical cyst is presumed with radiology and clinical pattern, more careful considerations on the basis of history and radiologic findings are mandatory.

Gyong-gi province has been the political, social, economical center of Korea since the three Kingdom period, Koryo, Chosun dynasty. As a result, the area enjoys abundant local food culture. However, due to the truce line going through the province, it was divided into northern and southern region. Development of the northern Gyong-gi province has been restricted because of security and defence reasons. So, even though it has kept abundant local food heritage compared to other regions. local food products have not been fully developed. Furthermore, as bed towns of Seoul and new towns are constructed in this region, traditional and local culture has been vanished gradually and the regional uniqueness is disappearing. This report focuses on identifying unique local foods of northern Gyong-gj province where tourist site development is limited and finding out how to utilize these as international tourism resource in the 21$\^$th/ century, the era of reunified Korea. Now, we need to seek ways to overcome the current difficulties and utilize the heritage of food culture and develop It in a form that suits the taste of modern consumers.

Among the radioactive wastes generated from the nuclear power plant, a radioactive nuclide such as $^{129}I$ is classified as a difficult-to-measure (DTM) nuclide, owing to its low specific activity. Therefore, the establishment of an analytical procedure, including a chemical separation for $^{129}I$ as a representative DTM, becomes essential. In this report, the adsorption and recovery rate were measured by adding $^{125}I$ as a radio-isotopic tracer ($t_{1/2}$ = 60.14 d) to the simulation sample, in order to measure the activity concentration of $^{129}I$ in a pressurized-water reactor primary coolant. The optimum condition for the maximum recovery yield of iodine on the anion exchange resins (AG1 x2, 50-100 mesh, $Cl^-$ form) was found to be at pH 7. In this report, the effect of the boron content in a pressurized-water reactor primary coolant on the separation process of $^{129}I$ was examined, as was the effect of $^3H$ on the measurement of the activity of iodine. As a result, no influence of the boron content and of the simultaneous $^3H$ presence was found with activity concentrations of $^3H$ lower than 50 Bq/mL, and with a boron concentration of less than 2,000 ${\mu}g/mL$.

Atopic myelitis (AM) is a relatively mild form of myelitis associated with allergic diathesis, and present with predominant sensory manifestations. Lhermitte's sign has been considered as a relatively non-specific clinical sign suggesting demyelinating lesion in cervical cord. Here we report a patient with recurrent AM who presented with isolated Lhermitte's sign, both in first and second attacks. This report suggests that either the diagnosis or recurrence of AM can be frequently underdiagnosed because of its predominant sensory manifestations.

Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) is a rare idiopathic inflammatory bone disease characterized by pain and swelling without any detectable infectious factors, the main feature is mild to moderate bone pain. CRMO commonly develops in the metaphyses of long bones and clavicles in children or adolescents. Chronic nonbacterial osteomyelitis (CNO) is the isolated form of CRMO and the etiology of CNO is still unclear. This report describes a rare case of CNO of the mandible in an 8-year-old female patient. On the basis of clinical, histological, and radiological findings, CNO was diagnosed. The patient was asymptomatic after surgical curettage followed by antibiotic therapy. Cone beam CT scan revealed a nearly completed bone healing after three months.
