  • When manufacturing concrete, several mineral admixture is added to improve the basic physical property and durability and to make economical concrete. Such mineral admixture includes fly ash, granulated blast furnace slag, silica fume, etc., and not only the studies about mixing these mineral admixtures but also the studies for the development of new materials have been steadily in progress. Recently, some researchers have found, as a part of the development of new materials, the rice straw ash can also be used as a pozzolanic material for concrete considering similar chemical properties of rice straw ash to that of rice husk ash. But there has been insufficient amount of study about it. So, this study was to investigate the possibility as mineral admixture of agriculture by-product, by analyzing properties of concretes using rice straw ash with replacement ratio in comparison with other mineral admixture. In order to measure amount of SiO2 of rice straw ash, XRF(X-ray fluorescence) analysis was tested. For the measure pozzolanic reaction of rice straw ash, pH change and color change was tested according to curing day. Also to evaluate properties of concrete using rice straw ash, slump test, air contents test and compressive strength was tested.

  • Hybrid SHCC is being researched actively for its excellent performance in controlling macro and micro cracks using macro and micro fibers, respectively. However, a significant autogenous shrinkage of SHCC is expected since it possesses high unit cement volume in its mix proportion, resulting in autogenous shrinkage cracks. Therefore, this study was performed to evaluate mechanical property of shrinkage-reducing type hybrid SHCC mixed together with steel fiber and PE fiber with excellent micro/macro crack controlling performance. In order to evaluate mechanical property of shrinkage-reducing type hybrid SHCC, replacement ratios of 0% and 10% of expansive admixture and water to binder ratios of 0.45, 0.3, and 0.2 were considered as variables. Then, shrinkage, compressive, flexural, and direct tensile tests were performed. The test results showed that mix proportion with W/B 0.3 significantly improved mechanical performance by using 10% replacement of expansive admixture.

  • Recently, review on viability of various industrial by product and natural materials as raw material for concrete has been actively done in aspect of environment-friendly issue and depletion of natural resource. This study conducted fundamental study on the possibility of utilizing mud flat as admixture and filling material for concrete. First, chemical analysis on the viability of mud flat as admixture was done and the researchers compared it with the substance of fly ash and blast furnace slag. According to the result, substance content was proven to be inadequate. In addition, as the replacement rate of mud flat increased, compressive strength and tensile strength decreased. According to the estimated result of chemical substance analysis, possibility of utilizing mud flat as admixture was low. According to the result of experiment done as filling material, 10% ~ 30% replacement rate of mud flat manifested more than 8 Mpa of compressive strength of block which may be utilized for secondary product. However, additional experiment such as making block is required afterward. According to the result of flow experiment, as the replacement rate of mud flat increased, flow value decreased, and through chloride content analysis test, it was proven that mud flat is inappropriate to be applied as steel beam using structure since it has high content of sodium. It may be utilized as products that does not use steel beam such as internal brick.

  • Utilizing admixture, which is one of the raw material replacement method in the cement industry, is expected to be easily and quickly put to practical use as it is relatively more accessible than other methods. Among cement admixtures, limestone powder is reported to be able to improve cement performance through nucleation effects, chemical effects, and filler effects, so it is a material expected to be suitable as a cement admixture. Meanwhile, as high-quality limestone is depleted around the world, the use of limestone with clay or high magnesia (MgO) content is becoming increasingly inevitable. Therefore, in this study, we attempted to evaluate the suitability of limestone cement as a admixture by measuring the basic properties of limestone cement mixed with limestone of different qualities commonly used in Korea. As a result, the effect of alite reaction promotion was confirmed regardless of the chemical composition of the limestone binder. However, the dilution effect depending on the substitution amount was greater than the chemical composition. It is believed that normal-grade limestone can be used as a mixture as long as the limestone content in cement is within 15 % in this scope of study. In the future, we plan to evaluate the impact of the chemical composition of the limestone mixture through additional experiments depending on the chemical composition of cement.

  • In this study, the current tendency to replace a large amount of material admixture, which is fly ash (FA) and blast furnace slag (BS), into concrete is that high-grade cheese high admixture of high fluidity concrete In consideration of the substitution rate, we considered J-Ring to investigate the influence on the segregation resistance and the method of evaluating the classical segregation. In addition to the admixture replacement rate in the study results, the EIS using J-Ring became lower and the percentage of vehicles with segregation increased. Such a tendency is considered to be positive when J-Ring is used when segregation is judged if segregation degree is similar to EIS using J-Ring.

  • In order to improve the dimensional stability and mechanical performance of cement-based composites, the effect of an expansive admixture based on calcium sulphoaluminate (CSA) on the shrinkage and mechanical properties of strain-hardening cement-based composite (SHCC), which exhibits multiple cracks and pseudo strain-hardening behavior in the direct tension, is investigated. Polyethylene fibers reinforced SHCC mixtures with three levels (30, 70, and 100MPa) of compressive strength were compared through free shrinkage, compressive strength, flexural strength, and direct tensile strength measurements. The SHCC mixtures were cast with and without replacing 10% of Portland cement content with CSA admixture. According to test results, CSA admixture is effective in reducing shrinkage of SHCC material. SHCC mixture with CSA admixture exhibited a little higher strength than companion mixture without CSA admixture.

  • The fine blast furnace slag is widely used as the admixture as it helps to increase the fluidity, long term strength of the concrete but decrease the heat of hydration. In case of the fine blast furnace slag, if the fineness of the slag is enhanced with the addition of gypsum to the concrete for the supplement of low strength in early stage and the facilitation of the initial hydration, the quality of the concrete is expected to change depending on the volume of the gypsum volume fraction. But, up to now the study on the fine blast furnace slag has only focused on the effect of fineness, replacement and admixture and there have been almost no studies on the effect of the gypsum volume fraction. Accordingly, this study focuses on what effect the gypsum volume fraction would make on the fluidity characteristics of the ultrafine furnace slag cement paste by using the rheology properties.

  • In this study, a test has been carried out to solve the problem with ground granulated blast-furnace slag, low early strength & lack of supply and to find out a way to use as concrete admixture of the ultrafine blaine air cooling slag which is all disposed as the by product of air cooling slag and its test was conducted to the replacement rate of ultrafine blaine air cooling slag & mixing condition of every concrete admixtures by type for the purpose of obtaining later a basic data for practical use of the cement that used ultrafine blaine air cooling slag by conducting comparative analysis. If ultrafine-blaine air cooling slag is used to the concrete following the results, a high efficiency water reducing agent won't be needed much for flow acquisition due to a high increase in flow, and the stripping time of concrete form will be shortened thanks to the acquisition of early strength, And though, it has the problems with long term strength which is similar or a little lower than the 3 types of ground granulated blast-furnace slag, it's still applicable as the substitute materials for 3 types of ground granulated blast-furnace slag at 10, 15% replacement rate of ultrafine-blaine air cooling slag, at which it shows higher activation index than 3 types of ground granulated blast-furnace slag.
