  • We report high-speed pulse train generation from a relatively low-speed 10-GHz mode-locked laser by means of line-by-line spectral coding. To increase the pulse repetition rate multiplication (RRM) factor, we combine coding schemes for both spectral intensity and phase by placing a simple mask at the coder focal plane. The resulting RRM factor, determined by multiplying the RRM factors of the individual coding schemes, rises as high as 16. To verify the generated pulses, the optical spectra and autocorrelation traces are examined.

  • We propose a selective detection scheme based on pulse repetition considering the BER (Bit Error Rate) performance and complexity of coherent IR-UWB (Impulse Radio-Ultra Wide Band) systems. To take system complexity into account, the proposed scheme transmits the UWB signals by pulse repetition at the transmitter, like conventional PRC (Pulse Repetition Coding). However, to effectively improve BER performance of the system, the proposed scheme performs selective detection by estimating the SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) of the received pulse-repeated signal at the UWB receiver. Hence, the proposed scheme effectively improves BER performance of the coherent IR-UWB systems without increasing system complexity, as compared to the conventional PRC algorithm.

  • In this paper, we analyze the block error performance of the CDMA system, whose information data are spread spectrum with PN sequences, and the chip signals are modulated with BPSK signal, combining MRC(Maximum Ratio Combine) diversity techniques with repetition transmission, FEC(Forward Error Correction) code in mobile communication channel which is characterized by Nakagami fading. As a results of study, the coding techniques provide more efficient improvement than a diversity techniques, but coding techniques are required the adding bandwidth as many coding rate. Also, when the system is combined MRC diversity techniques with coding techniques, the amount of improvement is dramatically increased.

  • In the partial-band interference and Rayleigh fading environments, the bit error probability equation of FH/MFSK signal has been derived and the error rate has been evaluated. And the results are shown in graphs and discussed. Here, to improve the error rate performance the repeated diversity and the error-correction coding techniques are adopted. The degree of improvement of error rate performance has been found out in diversity and coding techniques respectively. In diversity case, repetition number is taken as a parameter and in coding case, as the error-correction codes Hamming code, BCH code, and convolutional code are introduced. From the obtained results, we have known that the increase of the number of repetition in diversity technique has been brought a little improvement of performance but the coding technique considerable improvement and in particular, convolutional code is very effective. Therefore, coding technique is considered to be better than repeated diversity to cope with Rayleigh fading and partial-band interference.

  • Application of color coding to a jack board-type display has not yet been tried. The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of color coding on a jack board-type display. Ten subjects searched 10*20 arrays of numbers for the presence or absence of a color coding. Five colors were used for the coding. Three subjects were selected among 10 subjects to repeat 11 times the above experiments. Detection time was reduced by 6.6% for the color coding condition. Three subjects did not show any results different from those in their inexperienced state, except the learning effect during repetition of the experiments. The results imply that the color coded jack board-type display may be efficient either to inexperienced subjects or to experienced subjects.

  • In this paper, we show the robustness of a proposed system using both a frequency diversity and a time diversity effect when the channel assumptions are relaxed such that all sub-bands are not independent fading. We take time-repetition coding with interleaving such that the repetition code symbols are spaced sufficiently far apart to guarantee time diversity. We also incorporate offset multicarriers into a proposed multicarrier DS-CDMA system in a different way compared to that of [10] to reduce the total multiple access interference. When we take a convolutional encoder instead of a time-repetition encoder, and again use both time diversity and frequency offset, then we can obtain the significant performance gain.

  • This paper proposes a coding scheme of control channel for mobile packet communication to maximize the minimum Hamming distance, which is based on shifting of basis vectors of Reed Muller code with optimized dynamic puncturing and/or(partial) sequence repetition. Since the maximum likelihood decoding can be performed using the extremely simple FHT(Fast Hadamard Transformation), it is suitable for real time optimum decoding of control channel information with very little complexity. We show applications of the proposed coding method to TFCI(Transport Format Combination Indicator) code in split and normal modes of 3GPP W-CDMA system. We also discuss how this method can reduce rate indication error over AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise) as well as fading channels when the proposed coding scheme is applied to 1xEV-DV system of $3^{rd}$TEX> generation partnership project 2(3GPP2) to indicate the data rate transmitted on the reverse traffic channel by a Mobile Station(MS).

  • Elementary students are studying software training to teach coding education using text-based languages such as Python. In general, these higher-level languages support learning activities in combination with a kits for physical computing or various programming languages, in contrast to block-coding programming languages. In this study, we conducted a coding project based on computational thinking using the ARCS model to overcome the difficulties of text-based language. The results of the experiment show that students are generally confident and interested in programming. Especially, the understanding of repetition, function, and object was high in the change of computational thinking power, so this trend is believed to be due to the use of text-based languages and the Python module.
