In order to identify a new control measure for a sporadic insect pest, Pochazia shantungensis, 23 types of essential oils were screened for their repellent effects, with an olfactory test using a Y-tube olfactometer. Results indicated that 21 essential oils, except lemongrass oil and peppermint oil, did not show repellent activity against P. shantungensis. The repellent effect of peppermint oil was over 80%. When 0.1, 0.5, and $1{\mu}l$ of peppermint oil were used, the rate of repelling of P. shantungensis gradually increased, and was as high as 76.5% when $10{\mu}l$ was used. The main components of peppermint oil were 1,8-cineole, iso-menthyl acetate, menthone, and menthol, at 4.7, 8.0, 23.8 and 53.7%, respectively. When the three main components were mixed using a Y-tube olfactometer, a strong repellent effect (76.2%) was observed when $5{\mu}l$ was used. Peppermint oil showed a repellent and ovipositional repellent effect against P. shantungensis in the field. However, this activity persists only for a short period, and high concentrations can lead to phytotoxicity. Therefore, it is necessary to develop ideal formulations.

The quaternized compound of the copolymer between 2-diethylaminoethyl methacrylate and stearyl methacrylate (DSACC) was chosen as the mother resin for the water repellent of acrylics. The quaternized compound of 1-lauroyl dis (amino ethyl)-2-dodecyl imidazoline (LDDIC) was used to promote softening effect and hydrostatic pressure for the water repellent. The water repellent (EDUWC) obtained from the DSACC and LDDIC blended with waxes and emulsifiers improved the properties such as the water repellency, washable, tear strength and crease recovery when it was treated on the nylon fabrics with and without the resin. The reaction mechanism between the Nylon fiber and EDLWC was examined, and EDLWC was confirmed as the durable water repellent.
Repellent effcacies of two natural aroma compounds. citronella and citronellal, against mosquitoes were evaluated both in field and in vitro. In vitro, the experiment was conducted with three controlled bands impregnated with $30\%$ citronella extract, $15\%$ citronella extract and $30\%$ citronellal extract, and with band impregnated $30\%$ citronella in field. Raw data was obtained by the means of counting numbers bitten by mosquitoes per unit time, namely human bait method. Comparative repellent efficacies of above three controlled bands were calculated at $86\%$, $73\%$, and $78\%$, respectively in vitro, and $80\%$ in field, showing high repellent effectiveness against mosquitoes. This estimation was also confirmed by t-test compared between control group and each experimental group.
Purpose : We will develop the distribution method of wide oil extract technology to develop repellent using this technology and study mosquito repellent persistence. Research design, data and methodology : A positive control group containing purified water, ethanol and picaridin was prepared, and the experimental control group was prepared in the same proportion as the positive control group, and 0.6% of broad oil was added. The results were summarized using the calculation method according to the avoidance effect and statistically tested by t-test using the excel statistics program. Results : Experiments on skin surface area and voice control of participants showed that men had 8.9% wider skin surface area than women, and voice control tests showed that women were bitten by mosquitoes five times more than men. Both the positive and the experimental control groups had a valid duration of up to three hours, but from the time of five hours, the positive control group had 77% and the experimental control had 90%, indicating a difference of 14.4% over the positive control group. Conclusions : The mosquito repellents developed in this study on the basis of safety and continuity are cost-effective in terms of mosquito repellent, and in addition fragrance, odor removal, perfume, ink, skin care and massage effect.
Majority of asthma and atopic dermatitis are known to be spontaneously sensitive to house dust mite allergen. Control of house dust mite populations has been principally achieved by using chemical insecticides. But the risk to human health would be a potential problem. Moreover, house dust mite remain as allergens even after death. So, It is more effective method keeping the house dust mites away than killing them. The use of plant-derived repellents has been considered as a promising alternative to chemical repellents. Eucalyptus is a diverse genus of flowering trees in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae. It has insect repellent properties and is an active ingredient in some commercial mosquito repellents. These studies were carried out to investigate repellent effects of Eucalyptus oil against house dust mites and compare lemongrass oil. Eucalyptus oil and lemongrass oil were exposed at different doses (0.2, 0.1, 0.05, 0.025, 0.0125, $0.00625{\mu}l/cm^2$) and different times (1, 3, 6 hours) on house dust mites. The most effective dose of Eucalyptus and lemongrass oils against house dust mites was $0.1{\mu}l/cm^2$ and $0.025{\mu}l/cm^2$. Each repellent effect(%) in most effective dose was 90.3% (Eucalyptus) and 80.8% (lemongrass).

Ricania sp. is a pest to many crops in Korea. This pest prefers fruit crops especially, blueberry and apple trees. We tested the possibility of Ricania sp. control using of methylcinnamate. In the laboratory bioassay, the mortality of methylcinnamate against Ricania sp. adult with 100 and 250 time diluted solution was 36.6% and 13.3% respectively. While repellent that the use of methylcinnamate resulted rate of 43.3% with 100 time diluted solution and 40.0% in 250 time diluted solution. Insecticidal and repellent effect in semifield bioassay were higher than those in laboratory bioassay. From this result, methylcinnamate might have synergic effect for Ricania sp. management. The result of this study showed a possibility of Ricania. sp. control using methylcinnamate.

This study was performed to investigate the antibacterial, antioxidant, and termite repellent effects of citronella oil (CiO) and lemongrass oil (LO). When the antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus (S.) aureus with various levels of antibacterial resistance were tested, a 0.05% concentration of CiO and LO completely inhibited the growth of all tested S. aureus strains. Evaluation of the antioxidant effect demonstrated that the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity of CiO was 2~3 times greater than that of LO. Among trial products made with various combinations of CiO and LO, a CiO : LO ratio of 6 : 4 had the most potent termite repellent effects. Assessment of acute toxicity of the trial product showed that the $LD_{50}$ was more than 2,000 mg/kg. Based on the above results, CiO and LO have antibacterial, antioxidant, and termite repellent activities. Therefore, both compounds could be potential termites repellent reagents.
The effcct of specific g~avity cont~olled In the .range fiom O.4 to 0.7 by particle size and
added amount of A1 powder in the presence or absence of water repellent agent on the
physical properties of ALC was examined to evaluate frost resistance and durability.
The compressive sttcngth and the tensile strength are increased and independency with
water repellent agent when the specific gravity is increased in the range from 0.4 to 0.7.
According as the added amount of water repellent agent was increased. frost resistance
was improved and absorption ratio was decreased. ALC produced from fine Al powder has
a low volume reduction by scaling and a sound apperance after freezing/thawing test and
top surface freezing test.
The objective of this study is to compare the effects of raw materials as method of speeding up mounting of matured silkworm, for reducing concentrated labor during mounting periods. The results obtained from this study are summarized as fellows: (1) Quercus acutissima Carrs showed the most remarkable effect of repellent. Persicaria blumei Gross and Artemisia asiatica Nakai were followed in order. The rest repellents were also expected to be applicable. considering known material (silk-up) with lower mounting percentage. (2) The effective methods of preparation of repellent were to make distillate. Decocted solution type was considered to be the easiest way of preparation. (3) It seemed to be that there was little effect of repellent on the qualities of cocoon and silk. (4) When a repellent was applied to a silkworm bed, immatured silkworms were observed to mount. Thus it suggests that the repellent will give remarkable effects only when the degree of matured of silkworms is uniform.

To prepare a durable softening water repellent, quaternized octadecyl methacrylate-2-diethyl-aminoethyl methacrylate as a mother resin and quaternized 1, 3-dioctadecyl-2, 7-dioxy-6, 8-di(2-hydroxyethyl)-1, 3, 6, 8-tetraazacyclodecane which increase the softening effect and the hydrostatic pressure blended with waxes and their emulsifier in various proportions to give water repellent PADWC. As the results of the measurement of water repellency, washable, tear strength and crease recovery to polyestercotton(P/C) blended fabrics treated with PADWC only or addition of textile finishing resin, the physical properties were increased. There was no significant lowering effect in water repellency when PADWC was treated the antistatic agent by the one-bath method, and the effect of water repellency by the adding the catalyst was studied. PADWC was confirmed as durable water repellent with the results of making little difference of water repellency as ${\pm}5$ point after and before washing.
