  • This paper presents the reliability models for redundant systems composed of repairable components whose failure time and repair time distributions are phase-type. It is shown that the distribution of time to system failure is also phase-type. The dependency between components are considered and integrated into the model by the used of the rate adjustment factor. The phase-type representation is constructed for the system through algebraic operations on the parameters of components\` failure time and repair time distributions and the corresponding rate adjustment factors. Types of system structures considered are parallel, k-out-of-N system with load sharing scheme and standby system with operation priority.

  • In this paper, the problem of determining optimal burn-in time is considered under a general failure model. There are two types of failure in the general failure model. One is Type I failure (minor failure) which can be removed by a minimal repair and the other is Type II failure (catastrophic failure) which can be removed only by a complete repair. In this model, when the unit fails at its age t, Type I failure occurs with probability 1 - p(t) and Type II failure occurs with probability p(t), $0{\leq}p(t)\leq1$. Under the model, the properties of optimal burn-in time maximizing mean time to the catastrophic failure during field operation are obtained. The obtained results are also applied to some illustrative examples.

  • Past earthquakes have signaled the increased collapse vulnerability of mainshock-damaged bridge piers and urgent need of repair interventions prior to subsequent cascading hazard events, such as aftershocks, triggered by the mainshock (MS). The overarching goal of this study is to quantify the collapse vulnerability of mainshock-damaged substandard RC bridge piers rehabilitated with different repair jackets (FRP, conventional thick steel and hybrid jacket) under aftershock (AS) attacks of various intensities. The efficacy of repair jackets on post-MS resilience of repaired bridges is quantified for a prototype two-span single-column bridge bent with lap-splice deficiency at column-footing interface. Extensive number of incremental dynamic time history analyses on numerical finite element bridge models with deteriorating properties under back-to-back MS-AS sequences were utilized to evaluate the efficacy of different repair jackets on the post-repair behavior of RC bridges subjected to AS attacks. Results indicate the dramatic impact of repair jacket application on post-MS resilience of damaged bridge piers-up to 45.5 % increase of structural collapse capacity-subjected to aftershocks of multiple intensities. Besides, the efficacy of repair jackets is found to be proportionate to the intensity of AS attacks. Moreover, the steel jacket exhibited to be the most vulnerable repair intervention compared to CFRP, irrespective of the seismic sequence (severe MS-severe or moderate AS) or earthquake type (near-fault or far-fault).

  • Today, apartment houses account for a very high proportion of the types of residence. This study aims to present basic data for preparing a reasonable distribution plan by identifying factors considered in calculating the amount of collection of management fees. After reviewing previous studies on common management fees and long-term repair allowances, various data on apartment houses subject to mandatory management in Busan in 2020 were collected from the Apartment Management Information System to analyze the differences in influencing factors according to type of apartment management(self-governing management, consignment management). As a result of statistical analysis, the number of households and many construction elapsed periods had a negative(-) effect on long-term repair allowances, and many construction elapsed periods had a negative(-) effect on common management fees. In addition, the degree to which many construction elapsed periods had a negative(-) effect on long-term repair allowances and common management fees had less impact on consignment management than on self-governing management. And the long-term repair allowances were imposed less by consignment management, common management fees were charged less by self-governing management. The results of this study will serve as basic data for rational distribution of long-term repair allowances and common management fees to residents and managers of apartment houses subject to mandatory management in Busan.

  • Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) overexpression is associated with resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The EGFR modulates DNA repair after radiation-induced damage through an association with the catalytic subunit of DNA protein kinase. DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) are the most lethal type of DNA damage induced by ionizing radiation, and non-homologous end joining is the predominant pathway for repair of radiation-induced DSBs. Some cell signaling pathways that respond to normal growth factors are abnormally activated in human cancer. These pathways also invoke the cell survival mechanisms that lead to resistance to radiation. The molecular connection between the EGFR and its control over DNA repair capacity appears to be mediated by one or more signaling pathways downstream of this receptor. The purpose of this mini-review was not only to highlight the relation of the EGFR signal as a regulatory mechanism to DNA repair and radiation resistance, but also to provide clues to improving existing radiation resistance through novel therapies based on the above-mentioned mechanism.

  • Reinforced concrete buildings damaged by earthquake which can be reused can ensure the stability in its structure by repair-restrengthening, but when such a repair-restrengthening is conducted inappropriately or its structural strength is greatly reduced by earthquake again, it should have repair-restrengthening. This study selects beam-column joints which are vulnerable to earthquake as the object of experiment, performs repair-restrengthening after applying the first and the second dynamic loading to the objects of experiment, examines the capacity of restrengthening according to structural characteristics and loading velocity and verifys the validity of repair-restrengthening.

  • DNA damage response has a central role in the maintenance of genomic integrity while mutations in related genes may result in a range of disorders including neoplasic formations. The uvsZl characterized in this report is a navel uvs mutation in Aspergillus nidulans, resulting in a nucleotide excision repair (NER) phenotype: UV-sensitivity before DNA synthesis (quiescent cells), high UV-induced mutation frequency and probable absence of involvement with mitotic and meiotic recombinations. The mutation is recessive and nan-allelic to the previously characterized uvsA101 mutation, also located on the paba-y interval on chromosome I. uvsZl skewed wild-type sensitivity to MMS, which suggests non-involvement of this mutation with BER. Epitasis tests showed that the uvsZ gene product is probably involved in the same repair pathways as UVSB or UVSH proteins. Although mutations in these proteins result in an NER phenotype, UVSB is related with cell cycle control and UVSH is associated with the post-replicational repair pathway. The epistatic interaction among uvsZl and uvsB413 and uvsH77 mutations indicates that different repair systems may be related with the common steps of DNA damage response in Aspergillus nidulans.

  • Underground concrete structures are constructed under a geographical environment called underground and exposed to various environments that promote deterioration. Among them, groundwater promotes deterioration of underground concrete structures due to contaminated water from the ground. In this study, the chemical resistance performance test evaluation of five different receptors for a total of 15-type leakage repair materials of five series was conducted to determine the chemical stability of the leakage repair material used in the crack area. The results show a general increase and decrease in most chemical receptors, but the biggest increase and decrease was shown in acrylic systems, which were found in sodium chloride and sodium hydroxide, and epoxy was found in hydrochloric acid. The cement system is showing a lot of increase and decrease in sodium chloride. It is expected that the results of these studies will be used as a basis for chemical stabilization in the development of new materials.

  • Waterproofing is one of the important factor to improve performance of building elements. But existing repair system for waterproofing have many problems like a damage of waterproof layer due to movement of concrete substrate, blistering effect and moisture condition. So waterproofing layer can not play an important part to improve waterproofing function and performance of building. Therefore, new waterproofing system to solve these problems of existing waterproofing system is developed. In this paper, new waterproofing system in water-leakage repair for remodeling is introduced

  • Three types of repair-ordering polices for the production facility with r-out-of-n configuration are considered. Policies are characterized by states of the system and two types of lead times ; regular lead time and expedited lead time. Optimum repair-ordering policy is determined by minimizing the cost rate for the system. Optimum policy consists of the type of policies and repair-ordering time. Variations of the optimum policies are observed with respect to variations of lead times and associated ordering costs and downtime cost, respectively.
