This paper presents an Ground Segmentation algorithm to eliminate unnecessary Lidar Point Cloud Data (PCD) in an autonomous driving system. We consider Random Sample Consensus (Ransac) Algorithm to process lidar ground data. Ransac designates inlier and outlier to erase ground point cloud and classified PCD into two parts. Test results show removal of PCD from ground area by distinguishing inlier and outlier. The paper validates ground rejection algorithm in real time calculating the number of objects recognized by ground data compared to lidar raw data and ground segmented data based on the z-axis. Ground Segmentation is simulated by Robot Operating System (ROS) and an analysis of autonomous driving data is constructed by Matlab. The proposed algorithm can enhance performance of autonomous driving as misrecognizing circumstances are reduced.

As an absolute positioning system, iGS is designed based on ultrasonic signals whose speed can be formulated clearly in terms of time and room temperature, which is utilized for a mobile robot localization. The iGS is composed of an RFID receiver and an ultra-sonic transmitter, where an RFID is designated to synchronize the transmitter and receiver of the ultrasonic signal. The traveling time of the ultrasonic signal has been used to calculate the distance between the iGS system and a beacon which is located at a pre-determined location. This paper suggests an effective operation method of iGS to estimate position of the mobile robot working in unstructured environment. To expand recognition range and to improve accuracy of the system, two strategies are proposed: utilization of beacons belonging to neighboring blocks and removal of the environment-reflected ultrasonic signals. As the results, the ubiquitous localization system based on iGS as a pseudo-satellite system has been developed successfully with a low cost, a high update rate, and relatively high precision.

In this paper, we implemented an algae removal device that recognizes and removes algae existing in water using Raspberry Pi camera and DO (Dissolved Oxygen) sensor. The Raspberry Pi board recognizes the color of green algae by converting the RGB values obtained from the camera into HSV. Through this, the location of the algae is identified and when the amount of dissolved oxygen's decrease at the location is more than the reference value using the DO sensor, the algae removal device is driven to spray the algae removal solution. Raspberry Pi's camera uses OpenCV, and the motor movement is controlled according to the output value of the DO sensor and the result of the camera's green algae recognition. Algae recognition and spraying of algae removal solution were implemented through Arduino and Raspberry Pi, and the feasibility of the proposed portable algae removal device was verified through experiments.

Motion synchronization between developed real and virtual robots for object recognition and target tracking is introduced. ASUS's XTION PRO Live is implemented as a sensor and configured to recognize walls and obstacles, and perceive objects. In order to create virtual reality, Unity 3D is adopted to be associated with the real robot, and the virtual object is controlled by using an input device. A Bluetooth serial communication module is used for wireless communication between the PC and the real robot. The motion information of a virtual object controlled by the user is sent to the robot. Then, the robot moves in the same way as the virtual object according to the motion information. Through motion synchronization, two scenarios, which map the real space and current object information with virtual objects and space, were demonstrated, yielding good agreement between the two spaces.
Due to the continuous space development by mankind, the number of space objects including space debris in orbits around the Earth has increased, and accordingly, difficulties of space development and activities are expected in the near future. In this study, among the stages for space debris removal, the implementation of a vision-based approach technique for approaching space debris from a far-range rendezvous state to a proximity state, and the ground test performance results were described. For the vision-based object tracking, the CAM-shift algorithm with high speed and strong performance, and the Kalman filter were combined and utilized. For measuring the distance to a tracking object, a stereo camera was used. For the construction of a low-cost space environment simulation test bed, a sun simulator was used, and in the case of the platform for approaching, a two-dimensional mobile robot was used. The tracking status was examined while changing the position of the sun simulator, and the results indicated that the CAM-shift showed a tracking rate of about 87% and the relative distance could be measured down to 0.9 m. In addition, considerations for future space environment simulation tests were proposed.

In this study, two important requirements for the home production of a robot to detect and remove improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are presented in terms of the total cost for robot system development and the performance improvement of the mine detection technology. Firstly, cost analyses were performed in order to provide a reasonable solution following an engineering estimate method. As a result, the total cost for a mass production system without the mine detection system was estimated to be approximately 396 million won. For the case including the mine detection system, the total cost was estimated to be approximately 411 million won, in which labor costs and overhead charges were slightly increased and the material costs for the mine detection system were negligible. Secondly, a method for fabricating the carbon nanotube (CNT) based gas detection sensor was studied. The detection electrodes were formed by a photolithography process using a photosensitive CNT paste. As a result, this method was shown to be a scalable and expandable technology for producing excellent mine detection sensors. In particular, it was found that surface treatments by using adhesive taping or ion beam bombardment methods are effective for exposing the CNTs to the ambient air environment. Fowler-Nordheim (F-N) plots were obtained from the electron-emission characteristics of the surface treated CNT paste. The F-N plot suggests that sufficient electrons are available for transport between CNT surfaces and chemical molecules, which will make an effective chemiresistive sensor for the advanced IED detection system.

Safety accidents have been reported due to falling accumulated snow from cables of cable-supported bridges. In addition to the direct damage caused by falling snow, secondary damage, such as traffic accidents, can occur. Various methods have been proposed to prevent these accidents, but there are still problems in safety and practicality. In this study, a cable robot type was selected as one of the active methods for removing accumulated snow on cables. An attempt was made to increase the climbing ability of the robot to improve the efficiency of snow removal. In addition, the available range of cable diameter for the robot can be adjusted flexibly to be applied to cables used in the field. A high-resolution camera was also installed to check the surface condition of the cable in real time to increase the utility, and be used as a cable inspection robot. A three-axis accelerometer and a tension conversion algorithm were added to measure the tension force of cables. To verify the performance, indoor and field experiments were conducted, and future improvements for the inspection robot were proposed.

Resent removal work for road signs has been labor intensive and required times since it has been done manually using shaving type equipment. While traditional process is conducting, there are traffic jams caused by the passing control, and happened unexpected accidents to workers working at dangerous road circumstance. Besides, in current shaving method, there are high potentialities on the air pollution as well as the explosive accident occurred by using a propane gas. So, as an alternative, we have studied to develop the automatic erasing equipment made up with a high pressure water-jet system and automatic control system, mobile system; Wate-rjet system consists of an intensifier and nozzles to give a high pressure and spray on the sign, and automatic control system is composed of one axis robot using a hydraulic servo actuator controlled by a lever, And as a mobile system, a truck plays an important role for the transport of equipment and the forward movement in a removal process. In this paper, we have analyzed the characteristics of road signs and have investigated current erasing methods in the field. And we have organized and designed automatic erasing equipment, and we have made a basic experiment to find out the optimal spray condition as like the spray distance, spray angle and injection pressure.

Robotic arms have been widely utilized in various labor-intensive industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, and food services, contributing to increasing productivity. In the development of industrial robotic arms, camera sensors have many advantages due to their cost-effectiveness and small sizes. However, estimating object positions is a challenging problem, and it critically affects to the robustness of object manipulation functions. This paper proposes a method for estimating the 3D positions of objects, and it is applied to a pick-and-place task. A deep learning model is utilized to detect 2D bounding boxes in the image plane, and the pinhole camera model is employed to compute the object positions. To improve the robustness of measuring the 3D positions of objects, we analyze the effect of lens distortion and introduce a false positive filtering process. Experiments were conducted on a real-world scenario for moving medicine bottles by using a camera-based manipulator. Experimental results demonstrated that the distortion removal and false positive filtering are effective to improve the position estimation precision and the manipulation success rate.
Objective : In the field of spinal surgery, a few laboratory results or clinical cases about robotic spinal surgery have been reported. In vivo trials and development of related surgical instruments for spinal surgery are required before its clinical application. We investigated the use of the da $Vinci^{(R)}$ Surgical System in spinal surgery at the craniovertebral junction in a human cadaver to demonstrate the efficacy and pitfalls of robotic surgery. Methods : Dissection of pharyngeal wall to the exposure of C1 and odontoid process was performed with full robotic procedure. Although assistance of another surgeon was necessary for drilling and removal of odontoid process due to the lack of appropriate end-effectors, successful robotic procedures for dural sutures and exposing spinal cord proved its safety and dexterity. Results : Robot-assisted odontoidectomy was successfully performed in a human cadaver using the da $Vinci^{(R)}$ Surgical System with few robotic arm collisions and minimal soft tissue damages. Da $Vinci^{(R)}$ Surgical System manifested more dexterous movement than human hands in the deep and narrow oral cavity. Furthermore, sutures with robotic procedure in the oral cavity demonstrated the advantage over conventional procedure. Conclusion : Presenting cadaveric study proved the probability of robot-assisted transoral approach. However, the development of robotic instruments specific to spinal surgery must first precede its clinical application.
