A Reliability Model of Electronic Ballasts using SR-332 (SR-332에 의한 전자식 안정기의 신뢰성 모형)

  • As the level of technology and the standard of living improve, product reliability plays an increasingly significant role. This study has been performed to build a reliability model of electronic ballasts for the low wattage fluorescent lamp. Telcordia SR-332, one of the most widely used reliability specifications, was selected for the model development. We briefly reviewed the basic concepts of the electronic ballast. We then developed a reliability model for the ballast using SR-332 concepts and the reliability has been examined. We further discussed the significance of the first-year failure effect on the mean life.

  • The safety of buildings is generally estimated by analyzing a plane frame ignoring a minor bending moment. In this paper, uncertainties of reinforced concrete shear wall subjected to a biaxial bending are considered. First, major parameters are selected from all parameters of general shear wall design to perform a reliability analysis in their practical ranges, means and standard derivations of selected design parameters for the reliability analysis are calculated by a data mining as a simulation method. The bi-section method is used to find inclined neutral axis and its limit state using MATLAB subjected to the concept on strength design method. The reliability index $\beta$ as a safety index is calculated based on AFOSM(Advanced First-Order Second Moment) method. Also, if target reliability index $\beta_T$ is decided by an engineer an amount of reinforcement can be calculated by subtracting the reliability index $\beta$ from the target reliability index $\beta_T$.

  • In this paper, we utilize the asymptotic variance of $C_{pk}$ to propose a two-sided confidence interval based on percentile-t bootstrap method. This confidence interval is compared with the ones based on the standard and percentile bootstrap methods. Simulation results show that percentile-t bootstrap method is preferred to other methods for constructing the confidence interval.l.

  • Structural control systems have uncertainties in their structural parameters and control devices which by using reliability analysis, uncertainty can be modeled. In this paper, reliability of controlled structures equipped with semi-active Magneto-Rheological (MR) dampers is investigated. For this purpose, at first, the effect of the structural parameters and damper parameters on the reliability of the seismic responses are evaluated. Then, the reliability of MR damper force is considered for expected levels of performance. For sensitivity analysis of the parameters exist in Bouc- Wen model for predicting the damper force, the importance vector is utilized. The improved first-order reliability method (FORM), is used to reliability analysis. As a case study, an 11-story shear building equipped with 3 MR dampers is selected and numerically obtained experimental data of a 1000 kN MR damper is assumed to study the reliability of the MR damper performance for expected levels. The results show that the standard deviation of random variables affects structural reliability as an uncertainty factor. Thus, the effect of uncertainty existed in the structural model parameters on the reliability of the structure is more than the uncertainty in the damper parameters. Also, the reliability analysis of the MR damper performance show that to achieve the highest levels of nominal capacity of the damper, the probability of failure is greatly increased. Furthermore, by using sensitivity analysis, the Bouc-Wen model parameters which have great importance in predicting damper force can be identified.

  • Since a device such as a rocket motor requires very high reliability, a reasonable reliability design process is essential. However, Korea has implemented a design method for applying a safety factor to each component. In classic reliability analysis, input variables such as mean and standard deviation, used in the limit state function, are treated as deterministic values. Because the mean and standard deviation are determined by a small amount of data, this approach could lead to inaccurate results. In this study, reliability analysis is performed for bolted joints and o-ring seals, and the Bayesian approach is used to statistically estimate the input variables. The estimated variables and failure probability, calculated by the reliability analysis, are derived in the form of probability distributions.

  • The Reliability started for MILitary purposes during World War II in 1942, getting more important for maintenance, safety, etc in modern society. As technologies develop, also international standards for measuring the reliability is advancing. RAMS activities for maintenance, safety verification is material to national railroad. And for this, it needs quick response for the changes of standards. Even now standards are upgrading for developing electronic technologies. Therefore analysis of failure rate's trend about such standards is judged necessary. So We submit a this paper for comparative analysis of changing process standards according to development of electronic technologies and reliability. At first, we compared actual usage ratio of standards for understanding the current state of usage. Based of these state of usage, discuss the major standard. And then, introduced reliability standards's trend, calculation method of failure rate and difference of failure rate calculation standard according to march of time. In this paper, used standards are MIL-HDBK-217F, Telcodia, etc.

Slope Stability Evaluation System of Sanitary Landfill on Soft Ground and Its Reliability (연약지반상 위생매립지 안정성 평가에 대한 문제점 분석과 개선방향)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the possibility of normalization of the distibutions of soil parameters taken from soft ground and the reliability of the safety factors of specific objects on it, including sanitary landfill. Through this study it is found that distributions of soil parameters could be adjusted to appropriate normal distributions as possibility density functions(PDF), and that especially the group of initial cohesions and the coresponding safety factors has a perfect linear correlation. According to those results the PDF to initial cohesion as possibility parameter can not only be tmsformed to the PDF to safety factor but also, conseqently, the reliability of the safety factor(SF) simply based on the mean value of soil parameter(Co) can be calculated or easily picked up from the standrad normal distribution table. It is therefore concluded that even though calculated values of safety factors are over any standard requirements some possibility of risk both to the objects and natural soft ground could be still existing, and also a new standard value for this slope stability control system should be derived just by adjusting old one according to the magnitude of risk possibility.

  • This paper proposes an object tracking system according to reliability assessment of learning in mobile environments. The proposed system is based on markerless tracking, and there are four modules which are recognition, tracking, detecting and learning module. Recognition module detects and identifies an object to be matched on current frame correspond to the database using LSH through SURF, and then this module generates a standard object information that has the best reliability of learning. The standard object information is used for evaluating and learning the object that is successful tracking in tracking module. Detecting module finds out the object based on having the best possible knowledge available among the learned objects information, when the system fails to track. The experimental results show that the proposed system is able to recognize and track the reliable objects with reliability assessment of learning for the use of mobile platform.

A Method for Reliability Analysis of Process Facilities under Changing Operating Conditions (운전조건이 변화하는 공정설비의 신뢰도 분석기법)

  • The analysis of reliabilities of process facilities often uses models based on the Weibull distribution. The parameters in these models are functions of operating conditions, and determined by experiments. Using these values, we calculate the reliability, mean time to failure, and standard deviation. The conventional method assumes that the operating condition is constant, and thus treats the model parameters as constants. In this paper, a reliability function is proposed which is applicable when the scale parameter is a function of time, and an analysis method based on this is also presented. A case study on a cooling fan resulted in a big difference from the conventional method to which the average operating conditions were applied. The proposed method is also applicable to other process facilities, and expected to effectively take into account the effects of changes in the operating conditions on the reliabilities of the facilities.
