Fatigue Life Analysis on Multi-Stacked Film Under Thermal and Residual Stresses (열응력과 잔류응력하의 다층박막의 피로수명 해석)

  • Reliability problem in inkjet printhead, one of MEMS devices, is also very important. To eject an ink drop, the temperature of heater must be high so that ink contacting with surface reaches above $280^{o}C$ on the instant. Its heater is embedded in the thin multi-layer in which several materials are deposited. MEMS processes are the main sources of residual stresses development. Residual stress is one of the factors reducing the reliability of MEMS devices. We measured residual stresses of single layers that consist of multilayer. FE analysis is performed using design of experiment(DOE). Transient analysis for heat transfer is performed to get a temperature distribution. And then static analysis is performed with the temperature distribution obtained by heat transfer analysis and the measured residual stresses to get a stress distribution in the structure. Although the residual stress is bigger than thermal stress, thermal stress is more influential on fatigue life.

  • We obtain the Bayes estimator(BE), the minimum variance unbiased estimator(MVUE) and maximun likelihood estimator(MLE) of the reliability when the distribution of the stress and the strength are Weibull with known shape parameters. The experiment is terminated before all of the items on the test have failed and the failed items are partially replaced. Performance of the three estimators for moderate size samples are compared through Monte Carlo simulation.

  • MANET consists of only wireless nodes having limited processing capability. It processes routing and data transmission through cooperation among each other. And it is exposed to many attack threats due to the dynamic topology by movement of nodes and multi-hop communication. Therefore, the reliability of transmitted data between nodes must be improved and security of integrity must be high. In this paper, we propose a method to increase the reliability of transmitted data by providing a secure cryptography protocol. The proposed method used a hierarchical structure to provide smooth cryptographic services. The cluster authentication node issues the cluster authentication key pair and unique key to the nodes. The nodes performs the encryption through two steps of encryption using cluster public key and block encryption using unique key. Because of this, the robustness against data forgery attacks was heightened. The superior performance of the proposed method can be confirmed through comparative experiment with the existing security routing method.

  • Communication in real-time distributed system should have high reliability. To develop group communication Protocol with high reliability, potential fault should be known and when fault occurs, it should be detected and a necessary action should be taken. Existing detection method by Ack and Time-out is not proper for real time system due to load to Ack which is not received. Therefore, group communication messages from real-time distributed processing systems should be communicated to all receiving processors or ignored by the message itself. This paper can make be sure of transmission of reliable message and deadline by suggesting and experimenting fault detection technique applicable in the real time distributed system based on ring, and analyzing its results. The experiment showed that the shorter the cycle of the heartbeat signal, the shorter the time to propagate the fault detection, which is the time for other nodes to detect the failure of the node.

  • This paper presents a multi-criteria decision model and Multi-Criteria Generic Algorithm(MCGA) approach to improve backbone topology by leveraging the Virtual Link(VL) system in an hierarchical Link-State(LS) routing domain. Given that the sound backbone topology structure has a great impact on the overall routing performance in an hierarchical LS domain, the importance of this research is evident. The proposed decision model is to find an optimal configuration of VLs that properly meets two-pronged engineering goals in installing and maintaining VLs: i.e., operational costs and network reliability. The experiment results clearly indicates that it is essential to the effective operations of hierarchical LS routing domain to consider not only engineering aspects but also specific benefits from systematical layout of VLs, thereby presenting the validity of the decision model and MCGA.

  • In order to review the failure rate of PC monitor under normal environmental conditions, we experimented for various levels of each factors, e.g. Power on/off, DPM mode, using voltage incoming Surge, Torque strength etc. According to the results of experiment and SN ratios we investigated that the causes of the failure for the horizontal output TR of monitor are Mode change, dispersion of Torque and $h_{FE}$ and these are critical effect. For the new reliability test we suggested that strengthened part tests in IQC branch, Torque change controls in the TR specification are necessary.

Simulation-Based Fault Analysis for Resilient System-On-Chip Design

  • Enhancing the reliability of the system is important for recent system-on-chip (SoC) designs. This importance has led to studies on fault diagnosis and tolerance. Fault-injection (FI) techniques are widely used to measure the fault-tolerance capabilities of resilient systems. FI techniques suffer from limitations in relation to environmental conditions and system features. Moreover, a hardware-based FI can cause permanent damage to the target system, because the actual circuit cannot be restored. Accordingly, we propose a simulation-based FI framework based on the Verilog Procedural Interface for measuring the failure rates of SoCs caused by soft errors. We execute five benchmark programs using an ARM Cortex M0 processor and inject soft errors using the proposed framework. The experiment has a 95% confidence level with a ±2.53% error, and confirms the reliability and feasibility of using proposed framework for fault analysis in SoCs.

  • In this research, the dimensional error of the measured specimen according to the measurement method was analyzed for the length, angle, radius of curvature and diameter using a projector which is used in industry. One-way analysis was performed on each data tested 30 times using a statistical technique. Through the experiment, it was found that an error occurred in each data when measuring the length and radius of curvature according to the measurement method, and the null hypothesis that no error occurred when measuring the angle and length was established. Based on this experimental data, the automatic measurement when measuring the projector causes less measurement error, so automatic measurement is recommended when measuring a small product. Also, an optimal measuring method is suggested for securing reliability on formulations of measurement automation.

Correlation between Analytic and Experimental Results on Inelastic Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Frame

  • The objectives of this study are to evaluate the reliability of an existing nonlinear analysis program for predicting the inelastic behavior of reinforced concrete frame with seismic details and to observe the redistribution of the internal forces, which can not be easily measured by an experiment. In order to carry out this task, the nonlinear analysis program of IDARC 2D(3) was run on a 2-bay, 2-story moment-resisting reinforced concrete plane frame with seismic details. (1) The effort to obtain the results of the analysis similar to those of experiment was made by determining the appropriate values of model parameters. The comparison of the analysis results with those of experiment and the observation of the distribution of internal forces obtained through nonlinear analysis points to the following conclusions. (1) The overall relationship between lateral load and lateral displacement given by the analysis is similar to that of experiment. However, the values of initial stiffness and the amount of energy dissipation in the initial displacement steps given by the analysis show larger values than those of experiment. (2) The analysis provided detailed information on the distribution and redistribution of internal forces and proved useful in elucidating the crack pattern, the sequence of the occurrence of plastic hinges, and the failure or yielding mechanism for the whole structure. (3) In spite of the similarity in overall behavior of analysis and experiment, there exists a significant discrepancy in some local behaviors. Furthermore, the hysteresis in the relationship between moment and curvature in some column ends have shown sudden deteriorations in strength, which can not be interpreted satisfactorily at the present time. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a better analytical model to fill this knowledge gap.
