  • This paper develops and analyzes a new multiple-hypothesis Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring (RAIM) algorithm as a candidate for future standard architecture. The proposed algorithm can handle simultaneous multiple failures as well as a single failure. It uses measurement residuals and satellite observation matrices of several consecutive epochs for Failure Detection and Exclusion (FDE). The proposed algorithm redueces the Minimum Detectable Bias (MDB) via the Relative RAIM (RRAIM) scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can detect and filter out multiple failures in tens of meters.

  • A transfer alignment is used to initialize, align, and calibrate a SINS(Slave INS) using a MINS(Master INS) in motion. This paper presents an airborne transfer alignment with velocity and azimuth matching to estimate inertial sensor biases under the wing flexure influence. This study also considers the lever arm, time delay and relative orientation between MINS and SINS. The traditional transfer alignment only uses velocity matching. In contrast, this paper utilizes the azimuth matching to prevent divergence of the azimuth when the aircraft is stationary or quasi-stationary since the azimuth is less affected by the wing flexibility. The performance of the proposed Kalman filter is analyzed using two factors; one is the estimation performance of gyroscope and accelerometer bias and the other is comparing aircraft dynamics and attitude covariance. The performance of the proposed filter is verified using a long term flight test. The test results show that the proposed scheme can be effectively applied to various platforms that require airborne transfer alignment.

  • When the high power transistor is used for amplifier in microwave frequency, the bias of transistor is usually AB-class or B-c1ass because of power efficiency. The sweet spot point having small IMD signal compared with near neighborhood exicts frequently in the high power transistor using AB class bias or B-class bias. On the sweet spot, the magnitude and phase of the main and IMD signal of HPA output change as the input signal power change, respective the relative phase on the sweet spot changes rapidly. If we know exactly the magnitude and phase characteristics of IMD signal, we can design a more adequate linearizer and understand the characteristics of transistor. In this paper the magnitude and phase of the main and IMD signal of HPA output on the sweet spot are measured using the designed hardware.

  • This study was conducted to compare the design rainfall derived by the at-site and regional frequency analysis based on the regionalization of the precipitation. The regional and at-site design rainfalls were calculated by Log-Pearson type III distribution using Indirect Methods of Moments(WRC). The regional and at-site analysis for the design rainfall were tested by Monte Carlo simulation. Relative root-mean-square error(RRMSE), Relative bias(RBIAS) and Relative reduction(RR) in RRMSE were computed and compared between design rainfalls resulted from observed and simulated data using the regional and at-site analysis. It was shown that the regional analysis procedure can substantially reduce the RRMSE, RBIAS in comparison with those of at-site analysis. Consequently, optimal design rainfalls following the regions and consecutive durations were derived by the regional frequency analysis.

  • We propose the new sampling method, called modified ranked ordering set sampling (MROSS). Kim and Kim (2003) suggested the sign test using the ranked ordering set sampling (ROSS), and showed that the asymptotic relative efficiency (ARE) of ROSS against RSS for sign test increases as sample size does. We propose the estimator for the population mean using MROSS. The relative precision (RP) of estimator of the population mean using MROSS method with respect to the usual estimator using modified RSS is higher, and when the underlying distribution is skewed, the bias of the proposed estimator is smaller than that of several ranked set sampling estimators.

  • This study was conducted to derive the regional design rainfall by the regional frequency analysis based on the regionalization of the precipitation. For the estimation of the regional design rain(all, classification of the climatologically and geographically homogeneous regions should be preceded preferentially The optimal regionalization of the precipitation data were classified by the above mentioned conditions for all over the regions except Jeju and Ulleung islands in Korea. Relative root mean square error(RRMSE), relative bias(RBIAS) and relative reduction(RR) in RRMSE for the design rainfall were computed and compared between the regional and at-site frequency analysis. Consequently, optimal design rainfalls following the classified regions and consecutive durations were derived by the regional frequency analysis using GEV distribution which was identified to be more optimal one than the other applied distributions.

  • The uncertainty of the risk of failure of hydraulic structures can be determined by estimating the variance of the risk of failure based on the methods of moments, probability weighted moments, and maximum likelihood assuming that the underlying model is the Gumbel distribution. In this paper, the variance of the risk of failure was derived. Monte Carlo simulation was peformed to verify the characteristics of the derived formulas for various sample size, design life, nonexceedance probability, and variation coefficient. As the results, PWM showed the smallest relative bias and root mean square error than the others while ML showed the smallest ones for relatively large sample siBes regardless of design life and nonexceedance probability. Also, it was found that variation coefficient does not effect on the relative bias and relative root mean square error.

  • We show that next-generation galaxy surveys such as KAOS (the Kilo-Aperture Optical Spectro-graph)will constrain dark energy even if the baryon oscillations are missing from the monopole power spectrum and the bias is scale- and time-dependent KAOS will accurately measure the quadrupole power spectrum which gives the leading anisotropies in the power spectrum in redshift space due to peculiar velocities, the finger of God effect, as well as the Alcock-Paczynski effect. The combination of monopole and quadrupole power spectra powerfully breaks the degeneracy between the bias parameters and dark energy and, in the complete absence of baryon oscillations ($\Omega$b = 0), leads to a roughly $500\%$ improvement in constraints on dark energy compared with the monopole spectrum alone. As a result, for KAOS the worst case with no oscillations has dark energy errors only mildly degraded relative to the ideal case, providing insurance on the robustness of KAOS constraints on dark energy. We show that nonlinear effects are crucial in correctly evaluating the quadrupole and significantly improving the constraints on dark energy when we allow for multi-parameter scale-dependent bias.

  • In this paper, we demonstrated, through experiment and numerical reconstruction, that the bias and the conjugate image, which are main drawbacks in incoherent holography, can be removed. By using wave plates of the modified triangular interferometer, which was made by adding simple passive devices to the conventional triangular interferometer, we adjusted the relative phase differences of two optical waves traveling in clockwise and counterclockwise. In this way, we obtained four intensity patterns, and then by manipulating the four intensity patterns electronically we obtained the complex hologram without bias and the conjugate image. Comparing numerical reconstruction results of the complex hologram with numerical reconstruction results of the hologram obtained from the conventional triangular interferometer, we demonstrated that bias and the conjugate image can be removed using the modified triangular interferometer.

  • Diamond-like carbon(DLC) thin films are produced by using a filtered cathodic vacuum arc(FCVA) deposition system. Different magnetic components, namely steering, focusing, and filtering plasma-optic systems, are used to achieve a stable arc plasma and to prevent the macroparticles from incorporating into the deposited films. Effects of magnetic fields on plasma behavior and film deposition are examined. The carbon ion energy is found to be varied by applying a negative (accelerating) substrate bias voltage. The deposition rate of DLC films is dependent upon magnetic field as well as substrate bias voltage and at a nominal deposition condition is about $2{\AA}/s$. The structural properties of DLC films, such as internal stress, relative fraction of tetrahedral($sp^3$) bonds, and surface roughness have also been characterized as a function of substrate bias voltages and partial gas($N_2$) pressures.
