  • The goal of this study is to evaluate the performance of different solution types(a GPS-only, a GLONASS-only, and a GNSS solution) on GNSS positioning modes which are point positioning and relative positioning(DGNSS-, Static-, and Kinematic-solutions). I started with GNSS sites of seoul metropolitan government's RTK network which providing combined GPS/GLONASS observations : Gangseo(GANS), Dobong(DBON). The positioning accuracy of different solution types on positining modes are compared. Considering the compared results of all cases, can find not only the difference of the performance between the GNSS solution and the GPS-only solution is very small, but also the GLONASS-only solution is not far from the other solution types taking into consideration that GLONASS system is not (yet) a complete system.

  • Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) based precise positioning using Real Time Kinematic (RTK) technique has been proposed as an enabler of the formation operation of moving vehicles. In RTK methods, the integer ambiguity of GNSS carrier phase measurements must be resolved. Although there have been many proposed algorithms for the integer ambiguity resolution, the widelane combination of carrier phase measurements and LAMBDA methods have gained the most popularity in literatures when dual frequency GNSS measurements were used. In this paper, we evaluated five alternative methods to determine relative positions of moving base and rover receivers; the round-off scheme of widelane carrier phase, instant least-squares and Kalman filter-based LAMBDA with widelane carrier phase, instant least-squares and Kalman filter-based LAMBDA with dual frequency measurements. The paper presented the performance of each method using flight test data, which showed their strength and weakness in the aspects of time-to-first-fix, ambiguity resolution success ratio, and relative position errors. Based on that, we provided practical recommendations of RTK operations for moving vehicles.

  • Various space geodetic techniques have been developed for highly precise and cost-efficient positioning solutions. By correcting the physical phenomena near the earth’s surface, the positioning accuracy can be further improved. In this study, the vertical crustal deformation induced by the ocean tide loading was accurately estimated through GNSS absolute and relative positioning, respectively, and the tidal constituents of the results were then analyzed. In order to validate the processing accuracy, we calculated the amplitude of eight major tidal constituents from the results and compared them to the global ocean tide loading model FES2004. The experimental results showed that absolute positioning and positioning done every hour during the observation time of 2 hours, which yielded an outcome similar to the reference ocean tide loading model, were better approaches for extracting tide constituents than relative positioning. As a future study, a long-term GNSS data processing will be required in order to conduct more comprehensive analysis including an extended tidal component analysis.

  • Providing a precise positioning information is the primary characteristics of GPS. The relative positioning technique which utilizes the common measurements between a GPS reference station and a user is generally used to do the generation of a precise positioning. But if user is far from a GPS reference site, the properties of medium penetrated by GPS signals will be different from each other, It is difficult to eliminate the error sources such as the ionosphere and the troposphere effectively by the double differencing method. In this study the additional error correction values with the ionosphere and the troposphere to the data processing have applied. As a result, the positioning accuracy of fourteen out of seventeen testing sites were improved by appling the error correction values. We also analysed the improved rate of the positioning accuracy by the baseline.

  • Jack knifing accident of semi trailer vehicle is one of the most dangerous accident type because the vehicle cross over its lane by the accident. Jack knifing accident can be predicted and detected by GNSS precise relative positioning. But integer ambiguity resolution procedure is inevitable in GNSS precise relative positioning. In this paper, success rate improving method of integer ambiguity resolution is proposed for jack knifing accident prediction and detection of semi trailer vehicle, and proposed method is tested by simulation.

This study focuses on modeling the relative positioning of the interconnect paths rather than absolute positioning within a fixed coordinate system, thereby avoiding simplifications that impose restrictin on the path shapes.

  • Recently indoor positioning technologies have been studied using the acoustic signal from a smart phone. Also multi-hop indoor positioning system in which the equipments measure their relative position successively has been proposed. As the total positioning error is prone to increase due to the successively accumulated positioning error for the multi-hop system, the error analysis is required for the system design. In this paper, the absolute positioning error for the multi-hop indoor positioning equipments successively installed is analyzed, and it is verified by computer simulation. According to the results, the accumulated positioning error is linearly increased as the number of the multi-hop increases.

  • In wireless positioning systems using range measurements non-line-of-sight (NLOS) links cause estimation errors. Several studies have attempted to improve the positioning performance by mitigating these NLOS errors. These studies, however, have focused on the performance of a dataset consisting of three or more links. Therefore, measurement errors induced by links are averaged, and a reliable link is not fully utilized in the dataset. This paper proposes a Link Reliability based on Range Measurement (LRRM) scheme, which specifies the relative reliability of each link using residuals. The link reliability becomes the input to a Link Residual Weighting (LRW) scheme, which is also proposed as a weighted positioning scheme. Moreover, LRRM and LRW constitute new turbo positioning, where the estimation errors are reduced considerably by iterative updates.

  • This paper has shown the trend of competition positioning of 26 Korean ports in 1994, 1999, and 2003 by using BCG matrix which consists of relative market shares, growth rate of cargo handling, and also growth rate and CCR and BCC efficiency scores with scale efficiency scores in the vertical and horizontal axes. The empirical main results are as follows. First, Incheon Port, Pyungtag Port, Gwangyang Port, Busan Port, Pohang Port and Woolsan Port have shown their competitive positioning in terms of market share and growth rate. Second, Pyungtag Port, Wando Port, Tongyoung Port, Gohyun Port, Samcheog Port, and Okgae Port have their competitive positioning in terms of growth rate and scale efficiency scores. The main policy implication of this paper is to emphasize that BCG matrix method using in this paper can give seaport manager the basic information for planning the future port management for enhancing the competitive positioning among Korean seaports.

  • This study presents a precise relative navigation algorithm using both laser and Global Positioning System (GPS) measurements in real time. The measurement model of the navigation algorithm between two spacecraft is comprised of relative distances measured by laser instruments and single differences of GPS pseudo-range measurements in spherical coordinates. Based on the measurement model, the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is applied to smooth the pseudo-range measurements and to obtain the relative navigation solution. While the navigation algorithm using only laser measurements might become inaccurate because of the limited accuracy of spacecraft attitude estimation when the distance between spacecraft is rather large, the proposed approach is able to provide an accurate solution even in such cases by employing the smoothed GPS pseudo-range measurements. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the errors of the proposed algorithm are reduced by more than about 12% compared to those of an algorithm using only laser measurements, as the accuracy of angular measurements is greater than $0.001^{\circ}$ at relative distances greater than 30 km.
