The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of anxiety in mediating the influence of family of origin characteristics on subsequent relationship processes. Using Bowenian theory as a foundation, this study examined the causal relationships among gender, religion, family of origin-fusion, intimacy, intimidation, personal-trait-anxiety, couple open communication and relationship satisfaction. Results of the path analysis indicated that: (a) gender, religion, family of origin-fusion, and family of origin-intimidation were directly related to personal-trait-anxiety, (b) personal-trait-anxiety was directly related to couple open communication and not related to relationship satisfaction, (c) couple open communication was directly related to relationship satisfaction, and (d) family of origin factors were not directly related to couple open communication and relationship satisfaction; rather, as it was expected, indirect associations, through the mediation of anxiety, were found. The results generally support Bowen's intergenerational process theory, which asserts that anxiety is the mediator of the process. Limitations of the current study and suggestions for further research were discussed.
Objective: This study examined the moderating effect of young children's temperament on the relationship between maternal anxiety and overprotection. Methods: A total of 250 mothers with 5-year-old children responded to online survey questionnaires, which included questions about maternal anxiety, overprotection, and their children's temperament. Results: The results of the study revealed several important findings. First, maternal anxiety had a positive correlation to the overall level of overprotection and all sub-factors. The correlation between young children's temperament and maternal overprotection had different results depending on the sub-factors of overprotection. Second, there was a significant moderating effect of young children's temperament on the relationship between maternal anxiety and overprotection. That is, When the reactivity of a child was low, the positive effect of maternal anxiety on maternal overprotection was greater. Looking at the sub-factors of overprotection, only reactive temperament showed a significant moderating effect in the relationship between maternal anxiety and intrusive overprotection. On the relationship between maternal anxiety and permissive overprotection, reactivity and adaptability had significant moderating effects. Conclusion/Implications: This study showed that mother's overprotection was associated with varying levels of their own anxiety and children's temperament. These findings offer basic knowledge for development of a program for improving parenting behaviors.
The main purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between marital conflict, parental control, and adolescents' anxiety. The participants were composed of 319 high school $1^{st}$ graders (of which 153 were boys and 165 were girls) from the Seoul area. They completed questionnaires on marital conflict, parental control, and adolescents' anxiety. The data were analyzed by means of Pearson's correlation coefficients and regressions. It was observed that marital conflict (frequency/intensity/resolution/content) was positively correlated with adolescents' anxiety. Parental psychological control was also positively correlated with adolescents' anxiety. However parental behavioral control was negatively correlated with adolescents' anxiety. In addition marital conflict was positively correlated with parental psychological control in contrast with that of behavioral control. It was further found that parental psychological and behavioral control partially mediated the relationship between marital conflict and adolescents' anxiety. These results clearly indicate that parental control plays a crucial role in marital conflict and adolescents' anxiety.
This study was conducted to find out the relationship between dental anxiety and self-efficacy, physical and psychological condition and expected self-efficacy. The objective of this study was also to provide foundation for appropriate dental hygiene intervention model for scaling. In this study, anxiety reactions were measured among 178 patients, who made appointment with dental hygienists for scaling between May and July, 2009. The analysis was done in SPSS 12.0 statistical program which confirmed Cranach's alpha value. Technical statistics, t-test and One-way ANOVA, correlation and regression were also used. The result of the study is following: While dental hygienist conducts scaling, the dental anxiety was each measured in following categories: Thus male, age between 40 and 50, single, high school graduated and unemployed were measured highest dental anxiety among various groups. Dental Fear Scale demonstrated the validity of relationship between dental anxiety and self efficacy. The correlation was equated as r=-.409(p<0.01). In the other words, the higher self efficacy, the lower dental anxiety. The relationship between dental anxiety and physical and physiological condition was relevant. Physical condition was r=-.229(p<0.01) And then, the psychological condition was r=-.299(p<0.01). Thus, better physical and physiological condition results in less dental anxiety. The relationship between expected Self-efficacy and dental anxiety is also valid. The dental anxiety after performance accomplishment is r=-.239(p<0.01), after vicarious experience is r=-.195(p<0.01), after verbal persuasion is r=-.152(p<0.05), after recognition of physiological state is r=-.410(p<0.01). In conclusion, sex, age, marital status, education level, employment, physical condition, physiological condition are all relevant to dental anxiety(F=8.834). Both independent and dependent variables p<.05 have 37.5% persuasiveness.
The study is to verify the mediating effect of self-compassion in the relationship between abandonment anxiety and relationship addiction. To this end, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 250 men and women in early adulthood, using the scales of abandonment anxiety, self-compassion, and relationship addiction, of which 237 were used for the final analysis. Descriptive statistics and correlation analysis were performed using the SPSS 21.0 program, and mediating effects were confirmed using the PROCESS macro. The results of the study are as follows. First, abandonment anxiety showed negative correlation with self-compassion, and positive correlation with relationship addiction. Self-compassion showed negative correlation with relationship addiction. Second, in the relationship between abandonment anxiety and relationship addiction, self-compassion showed a partial mediating effect. Through this study, the relationship between abandonment anxiety and relationship addiction and the effectiveness of self-compassion to manage it were confirmed. Based on the results of this study, the significance and limitations of this study and suggestions for subsequent studies were presented.
Purpose. This study was to investigate the relationships among mobile internet addiction, sleep quality, anxiety, and interpersonal relationship in university students. Method. A descriptive study design was used. Between 10 and 31 March 2016, 213 subjects completed a questionnaire consisting of questions on mobile internet addiction, anxiety, sleep quality, and interpersonal relationship. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, One way-ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient SPSS/WIN 21.0 programs. Results. Among mobile internet addiction there were significant differences between gender (t=3.40, p<.001), grade (F= 2.31, p<.001), majority field (F=5.34, p=.005), and take exercise (t=3.50, p<.001). This study has shown that mobile internet addiction were associated with sleep quality (r=-.40, p<.001) and anxiety (r=.14, p=.037). In addition, a correlation has been found significant between anxiety, and sleep quality (r=.48, p<.001), and sleep quality has associated with interpersonal relationship (r=-.46, p<.001). Conclusion. In this study, we revealed the observed a meaningful significant correlation between mobile internet addiction, sleep quality and anxiety. Therefore, it is important to emphasize control of mobile internet addiction for university students. The results of this study can be used as a basis on which to develop a mobile internet addiction intervention program.
The purpose of this study was to examine: (1) the relationships among two dimensions of children's perfectionism (both self-oriented and socially prescribed), and levels of depression, anxiety, and self-esteem; (2) whether or not self-esteem mediates the relationship between children's self-oriented perfectionism, and depression and anxiety; and (3) whether self-esteem mediates the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism, and depression and anxiety. The participants were 406 fifth and sixth graders. Their data were collected with questionnaires. It was found that there are significant correlations between children's self-oriented perfectionism, and depression and self-esteem, and there are also significant correlations between children's socially prescribed perfectionism, and depression, anxiety, and self-esteem. It was also found that self-esteem mediates the relationship between the two dimensions of children's perfectionism, and depression and anxiety. These results seem to indicate that enhancing healthy self-esteem could lower the risks of experiencing depression and anxiety in children with perfectionistic personality.
