  • This paper examines the relation between multidimensional linear interpolation (MDI) and regularization net-works, and shows that an MDI is a special form of regularization networks. For this purpose we propose a triangular basis function(TBF) network. Also we verified the condition when our proposed TBF becomes a well-known radial basis function (RBF).

  • A sequencing problem is to find an ordered sequence of some entities which maximizes (or minimize) the domain specific objective function. As some typical examples of sequencing problems, there are traveling salesman problem, job shop scheduling, flow shop scheduling, and so on. This paper introduces a new type of sequencing problems, named a sequencing problem with fuzzy preference relation, where a fuzzy preference relation is provided for the evaluation of the quality of sequences. It presents how such a problem can be formulated in terms of objective function. It also proposes a genetic algorithm applicable to such a sequencing problem.

  • This paper presents an algorithm for building detection from aerial image using segment measure function and line relation. In the detection algorithm proposed, edge detection, linear approximation and line linking are used and then line measure function is applied to each line segment in order to improve the accuracy of linear approximation. Parallelisms, orthogonalities are applied to the extracted liner segments to extract building. The algorithm was applied to aerial image and the buildings were accurately detected.

  • In the paper, the authors find a common solution to three series of differential equations related to the generating function of the Bernoulli numbers of the second kind and present a recurrence relation, an explicit formula in terms of the Stirling numbers of the first kind, and a determinantal expression for the Bernoulli numbers of the second kind.

  • Very recently Professor Exton derived an interesting hypergeometric generating relation. The authors aim at deriving another hypergeometric generating relation by using the same technique developed by Exton. Some interesting special cases have also been given.

  • We study the connection between the observed star formation rate-stellar mass (SFR-M) relation and the evolution of the stellar mass function (SMF) by means of a Subhalo Abundance Matching technique coupled to merger trees extracted from a N-body simulation. Our approach, which considers both galaxy mergers and stellar stripping, is to force the model to match the observed SMF at redshift z>2, and let it evolve down to the present time according to the observed (SFR-M) relation. In this study, we use two different sets of SMFs and two SFR-M relations: a simple power law and a relation with a mass-dependent slope. Our analysis shows that the evolution of the SMF is more consistent with a SFR-M relation with

  • The purpose of this study is to show that the topology is closely related to some subjects learned in school mathematics and then to give motivations for learning of the topology. To do this, it is showed that the topology is an abstracted device that deal with structure of limit and continuity introduced in school mathematics. This study took a literature study. The results of this study are as follows. First, the formal definition of general topology to structure open sets was examined. The nearness relation together with the closure operation was introduced and used to characterize for construction of general topology. Second, as definitions for continuity of function, we considered the intuitive definition, definition, structured definitions using open intervals and definition using open sets and then we investigated their roles. We also examined equivalent definition using the nearness relation which is helpful to understand continuity of function. Third, the sequence and its limit are treated in terms of continuous functions having the set of natural numbers and its extended set as domains. From these, it can be concluded that the convergence of sequence and the continuity of function are identified as functions that preserve the nearness relation and that the topology is a specialized tool for dealing with convergence and continuity.

  • The sample of sub dwarfs are selected from LHS catalogue on the bases of the reduced proper motion diagram utilizing Chui criteria, and confirmed with the available photometric and/or kinematic data. Among them, 20 sub dwarfs have trigonometric parallaxes with accuracy better than $20\%$. The colorabsolute magnitude relation is derived with them. By adopting this color-magnitude relation and $V/V_m$ method, we have derived the sub dwarf luminosity function over the absolute magnitude range of $M_v$= 4.5 and 9.5. This halo luminosity function is consistent with that of Eggen(1987). By adopting the available mass-luminosity relations for halo stars, we have found that the halo IMF is steeper than disk IMFs of Scalo(1986) and Salpter(1955) in this small mass region.
