  • For speech recognition systems, rejection function as well as decoding function is necessary to improve the reliability. There have been many research efforts on out-of-vocabulary word rejection, however, little attention has been paid on non-target sentence rejection. Recently pronunciation approaches using speech recognition increase the need for non-target sentence rejection to provide more accurate and robust results. In this paper, we proposed filler model method and word/phoneme detection ratio method to implement non-target sentence rejection system. We made performance evaluation of filler model along to word-level, phoneme-level, and sentence-level filler models respectively. We also perform the similar experiment using word-level and phoneme-level word/phoneme detection ratio method. For the performance evaluation, the minimized average of FAR and FRR is used for comparing the effectiveness of each method along with the number of words of given sentences. From the experimental results, we got to know that word-level method outperforms the other methods, and word-level filler mode shows slightly better results than that of word detection ratio method.

  • ESO(Evolutionary Structural Optimization) method is known that elements involved low stress value are removed from the previous model or that elements are added around elements involved high stress level on it and then the optimized model is obtained with required weight. Rejection ratio/addition ratio and evolutionary ratio are predefined and elements having lower/higher stress than reference stress, which average Mises stress on edge elements times rejection ratio, are deleted/added. In this study, when the plate having a cutout is subjected various in-plane load, a cutout shape is optimized using ESO method. ANSYS is used to analyse a finite element model and optimization procedure is made by APDL (ANSYS Parametric Design Language). ESO method is useful in rather than a complex structure optimization as well as a cutout shape optimization.

  • Biodegradable amphiphilic polymer was synthesized for removing hydrophobic pollutants(phenol, 4-nitrophenol, benzene, and toluene) and metal ions ($Cs^{+},\;Mg^{2+},\;Cu^{2+},\;Ni^{2+}$, and $Cr^{3}$). The methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)s with different molecular weights (1,100 and 5,000) were used as a hydrophilic segment. The rejection ratio improved in the relatively high molecular weight of MPEG. The rejection ratio of biodegradable nanoparticles without pollutants was over 98%. In removal of hydrophobic pollutants, the rejection ratio increased with the hydrophobic properties. The electron valence affects the rejection ratio of metal ions, indicating rejection ratio was ordered as $3^{+}>2^{+}>1^{+}$.

  • We propose a robust non-speech rejection algorithm using the three types of pitch-related parameters. The robust non-speech rejection algorithm utilizes three kinds of pitch parameters : (1) pitch range, (2) difference of the successive pitch range, and (3) the number of successive pitches satisfying constraints related with the previous two parameters. The acceptance rate of the speech commands was 95% for -2.8dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) speech database that consisted of 2440 utterances. The rejection rate of the non-speech sounds was 100% while the acceptance rate of the speech commands was 97% in an office environment.

  • Research efforts have been made for out-of-vocabulary word rejection to improve the confidence of speech recognition systems. However, little attention has been paid to non-recognition sentence rejection. According to the appearance of pronunciation correction systems using speech recognition technology, it is needed to reject non-recognition sentences to provide users with more accurate and robust results. In this paper, we introduce standard phoneme based sentence rejection system with no need of special filler models. Instead we used word spotting ratio to determine whether input sentences would be accepted or rejected. Experimental results show that we can achieve comparable performance using only standard phoneme based recognition network in terms of the average of FRR and FAR.

  • A balanced single side-band (SSB) mixer employing a sub-harmonic configuration is designed for up and down conversions in K-band. The designed mixer uses anti-parallel diode (APD) pairs to effectively eliminate even harmonics of the local oscillator (LO) spurious signal. To reduce the odd harmonics of LO at the RF port, we employ a balanced configuration for LO. The fabricated chip shows 12$\pm$2dB of conversion loss and image-rejection ratio of about 20dB for down conversion at RF frequencies of 24-27.5GHz. As an up-conversion mode, the designed chip shows 12dB of conversion loss and image-rejection ratio of 20 ~ 25 dB at RF frequencies of 25 to 27GHz. The odd harmonics of the LO are measured below -37dBc.

  • An UWB(Ultra Wide Band) antenna with band rejection characteristics is designed and implemented. A planar radiation patch with slot, parasitic elements on both sides of strip and ground plane on back side consist the proposed antenna. The slot in the radiation patch and parasitic elements contribute corresponding bands rejection characteristics. The slot contributes for WiMAX(World interoperability for Microwave Access, 3.30~3.70 GHz) band rejection and parasitic elements contribute for X-Band(7.25~8.395 GHz) rejection. Ansoft's HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator) was used to design the proposed antenna and performance simulations. Simulation result showed VSWR(Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) less than 2.0 for UWB band except for dual rejection bands of 3.30~3.86 GHz and 7.21~8.39 GHz. And VSWR measurement result for the implemented antenna shows less than 2.0 for 3.10~10.60 GHz band except dual rejection bands of 3.25~3.71 GHz and 7.25~8.46 GHz.

  • The heat rejection to coolant is a dominant factor for building vehicle cooling system such as radiator and cooling fan. Since the vehicle cooling system also has effects on fuel consumption and noise, the study of heat rejection to coolant has been emphasized. However, the study on heat rejection to coolant has been mainly focused on the field that related to the characteristics of combustion and localized heat loss. It is no much of use in design for the entire cooling system because it is focused on such a specific point. In this work, the heat rejection rate to coolant for four different engines are obtained to derive a simple heat transfer empirical formula that can be applied to the engine cooling system design, and it is compared with the other studies. Also, to observe effects of engine operation factors and heat transfer factors on coolant, we measured the metal temperature and the heat rejection rate. The heat rejection to coolant does not depend significantly upon the coolant flowrate, but mainly upon the amount of air fuel mixture and the air fuel ratio as long as the composition of coolant does not change. The reduction of heat rejection to coolant did not effectively improve the fuel consumption, but was mostly converted to raise the exhaust gas temperature and the oil temperature.

  • Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was applied to modeling particle dynamics in microfiltration (MF). The rejection properties of poly methylmethacrylate (PMMA) and polystyrene (PS) were calculated. Calculated rejection (R) of PMMA was independent with the porosity of the membrane, and the R was constant in the range of volume flux between $1\times 1-^{-4}-1\times 10^{-2}$ m/s. These observations were in quantity agreement with our experimental observations. The dependence of PMMA and PS rejection on the ratio of particle diameter and pore diameter were good agreement with the experimental values, which suggesting that the validity of CFD simulation to evaluate rejection of particle in MF membranes. Change of rejection of PMMA as a function of time was molded based on the CFD result which explained well the experimental observation.

  • In this paper, we demonstrate a fully integrated X-band image rejection down converter, which was developed using InGaP/GaAs HBT MMIC technology, consists of two single-balanced mixers, a differential buffer amplifier, a differential YCO, an LO quadratue generator, a three-stage polyphase filter, and a differential intermediate frequency(IF) amplifier. The X-band image rejection downconverter yields an image rejection ratio of over 25 dB, a conversion gain of over 2.5 dB, and an output-referred 1-dB compression power$(P_{1dB,OUT})$ of - 10 dBm. This downconverter achieves broadband image rejection characteristics over a frequency range of 1.1 GHz with a current consumption of 60 mA from a 3-V supply.
