The durable lifetime of RC structures is shortened by various reasons, which are the generation of cracks in construction and service term, the exterior deterioration according to climatic condition, the surface damage due to chloride attack and the corrosion of reinforced bars. The durability of concrete structures is nevertheless able to be increased by the method and the material of reinforcement and repair. The epoxy resin is widely used for reinforment and repair of concrete because of the superiority in mechanical property, adhesive property, abrasion resistance, impact resistance and chemical resistance. The epoxy cement mortar with hardening agent has a lot of disadvantages that are troublesome mixing work, weakened weatherability and high cost for hardening agent. In this study, the mix proportion of mortar is presented just only with epoxy resin and some admixtures, and the test result of mortar without hardening agent shows the higher strength than the mortar with hardening agent. In the mix proportion, the weight of epoxy resin must be less than 15% of the unit weight of cement, and 10% of unit weight of cement is adequate for the weight of admixtures.
The study of the tensile strength of composite materials is far more complex than analysis of the properties of elasticity and plasticity. Indeed, during mechanical loading, micro-cracks in the matrix, the fibers break, debonding of the interfaces are created. The failure process of composites is of great diversity and cannot be described if even we know: the strength criterion of each individual component, the state of stress and strain in the material, the propagation phenomena cracks in the structure and nature of the interface between the matrix and the reinforcement. This information is only partially known and the obtained by the analysis of a stress limit beyond which there is destruction of the material is almost impossible. To partially process the issue, a solution lies in a mesoscopic approach of seeking a law to locate the ultimate strength of the material for a plane stress state. Tests on rectangular plates in bending PEEK/APC2 and T300/914 three were made and this in order to validate our approach, the calculation has been implemented in a nonlinear finite element code (Castem 2000), in order to make comparison with the numerical results. The results show good agreement between numerical simulation and the two materials; however, it would be interesting to consider other phenomena in the criterion.
Corrosion of Reinforcement (rebar) is nondestructively estimated by the half-cell potential measurement. As is the case with other nondestructive testings (NDT), understanding of the underlying principles should be clarified in order to obtain meaningful results. Therefore, the measurement of potentials in concrete is analytically investigated. The effect of internal defects on the potentials measured is clarified numerically by the boundary element method (BEM). Thus, a simplified inversion by BEM is applied to convert the potentials on concrete surface to those on rebars, taking into account the concrete resistivity. Because the potentials measured on concrete surface are so sensitive to moisture content, concrete resistivity and surface condition, an inverse procedure to convert the potentials on concrete surface into those on rebars is developed on the basis of BEM. It is found that ASTM criterion is practically applicable to estimate corrosion from the potential values converted. In experiments, an applicability of the procedure is examined by accelerated corrosion tests of reinforced concrete (RC) slabs. For practical use, the procedure is developed where results of IBEM are visualized by VRML (Virtual Reality modeling Language) in three-dimensional space.
The presence of water inside concrete structures is an essential condition for the deterioration of the structures. The free water in the concrete pores and micro-cracks is the culprit for the durability related problems, such as alkali-aggregate reaction, carbonation, freeze-thaw damage, and corrosion of steel reinforcement. To ensure the integrity and safe operation of the concrete structures, it is very important to monitor water seepage inside the concrete. This paper presents the experimental investigation of water seepage monitoring in a concrete slab using piezoelectric-based smart aggregates. In the experimental setup, an $800mm{\times}800mm{\times}100mm$ concrete slab was fabricated with 15 SAs distributed inside the slab. The water seepage process was monitored through interrogating the SA pairs. In each SA pair, one SA was used as actuator to emit harmonic sine wave, and the other was used as sensor to receive the transmitted stress wave. The amplitudes of the received signals were able to indicate the water seepage process inside the concrete slab.
The superplastic behavior of whisker reinforced aluminum alloy matrix composites fabricated by squeeze casting as one of high pressure routes was investigated. The preforms of ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4$ and ${\beta}-SiC$ whiskers without any binder as a reinforcement were used. The matrix materials were 2024 and 7075 aluminum alloys. For the purpose of optimum superplastic condition, respectively, the whiskers volume fraction, extrusion temperature, tensile test temperature and initial strain rate were changed. Fracture surface of tested specimens were observed by SEM. By the results, it became possible to produce superplastic composites by applying only a hot extrusion process to composites obtained by the squeeze casting. The superplastic composites developed are ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4w/7075$, ${\alpha}-Si_3N_4w/2024$ and ${\beta}-SiCw/2024$ systems at high strain rate.
Distinct element simulation in jointed rock masses is largely dependent upon the joint constitutive equation used. This paper describes the differences between the Barton-Bandits (BB) and the Mohr-Coulomb (MC) joint constitutive models for the stability analysis of the jointed rock slopes. The BB model, which allows the modelling of the dilation accompanying shear, predicts results very similar to the present condition of slopes. Consequently the 10 cm thick shotcrete was proposed for the reinforcement of those slopes. The MC model, however, in which the dilation angle is constant, is relatively insensitive to the behaviors of joints.

Many concrete structures have suffered from carbonation or chloride ion diffusion induced reinforcement corrosion, and a number of studies have been done on these topics. Many studies were mostly confined to the single deterioration of carbonation or chloride ion, although the environment actually presents a combined condition. This paper tried to develop the approach to compute re-diffusion of de-sorbed chloride due to carbonation of concrete. This is a key for successful combined deterioration model of carbonation and chloride. It is thought that this paper can contribute to express mathematically chloride enrichment and re-diffusion of chloride at front of carbonation.

Geotextiles form one of the two largest groups of geosynthetics and it is consisted two major types of synthetic material (Woven, Non-woven). The functions of geotextiles are separation, reinforcement, filtration, drainage and as a moisture barrier. Within these functions, however, there are a large number of applications or use areas. Although the many research scholar and engineer developed and established the design criteria and construction methodology of geosynthetics filter layer, because the lack of suitable design terminology and uncertainty of long term durability, sustainable research still needed for optimum design methodology to the complicate field conditions. Especially, more intensive research needed about under the cyclic flow condition and fine silty sand base material. In this paper, the filter model test performed under cyclic flow with various boundary conditions (period and frequency of cyclic flow, types of geosynthetic filter material, surcharge etc.).

In this study, $20\;Nm^3/hr$ scale compact hydrogen generator which can be apply to the hydrogen station was manufactured and tested. The design of $20\;Nm^3/hr$ scale compact hydrogen generator was upgraded on the base of $5\;Nm^3/hr$ scale plate hydrogen generator concept stacking the plate reactors. Ideas for improving system efficiency such as heat recovery from the exhaust, exhaust duct which is especially design for plate type reactor, reinforcement of insulation, enlargement of heat exchange area of reactor, introduction of desulphurizer reactor and PROX rector in a compact design etc. were applied. From the performance test, we can learn that the $20\;Nm^3/hr$ scale compact hydrogen generator can be operated steadily at 100% road condition and the methane conversion of over 94%(at S/C=3.75) was obtained. This result shows that the concept of plate type hydrogen generator can be scale-up to the $20\;Nm^3/hr$ scale and fit for hydrogen generator for on site hydrogen station application.
