Purpose: This study was designed to be used as the basic visual function data after analyzing and investigating the refractive errors variation between city and rural elementary school children. Methods: To compare with city and rural areas, 2501 elementary school children who lived in Mokpo, Yeongam, Muan, Hampyeong were participated. Objective refraction, Subjective refraction and binocular function examinations were measured. Results: Mean of refractive error of rural areas was -1.47 D in 2012 years, -1.52 D in 2013 years, and -1.40 D in 2014 years. However average of refractive error was -1.65 D in 2012 years, -1.76 D in 2013 years and -1.75 D in 2014 years who lives in city areas. Average myopia was showed higher who lives in rural areas elementary school children than city areas elementary school children. There were significant differences between rural areas and city areas elementary school children (p = 0.03), but there were no significant differences by averagre hyperopia (p = 0.32). Average myopia was showed the tendency of increase as the students get older by analysis compare with rural and city areas elementary school children. It also showed high prevalence of myopia who lives in city areas elementary school children compare with lives in rural areas elementary school children. Conclusions: It is the very important to performed regular visual acuity test and correction during the largest refractive change period and it is necessary to have experts in the visual acuity test.

Tensile stress occurs and random crack develops in concrete pavement slab when it contracts by variation of temperature and humidity. The tensile stress decreases and the random crack is minimized by sawcutting the slab and inducing the crack with regular spacing. The random crack, joint damage, decrease of load transfer efficiency are caused by too wide joint spacing while too narrow joint spacing leads to increase of construction cost and decrease of comfort. A mechanistic-empirical joint spacing design method for the concrete pavement was developed in this study. Structurally and environmentally weakest sections were found among the sections showing good performance, and design strengths were determined by finite element analysis on the sections. The joint width for which the load transfer efficiency is suddenly lowered was determined as allowable joint with referring to existing research results. The maximum joint spacing for which the maximum tensile stress calculated by the finite element analysis did not exceed the design strength were found. And the maximum joint width expected by the maximum joint spacing were compared to the allowable joint width. The new method developed in this study was applied to two zones of Hamyang-Woolsan Expressway being designed. The same joint spacing as a test section constructed by 8.0m of joint spacing wider than usual was calculated by the design method. Very low cracking measured at 6 years after opening of the test section verified the design method developed in this study.

To evaluate the food habits of middle school students a survey was made by the method of questionaire on 820 middle school students consisted of 370 boys and 450 girls in Taegu city area. The results obtained are summarized as follows; Cookies, fruits, fruit juice and ice cream are their favorite eatings between meals in the decreasing order, And the eatings between meals are more frequent In girls and in the students from financially better homes and from the parents of higher education. More than half of the students have regular or irregular intake of additional vitamin tablets while about 22 percents of them skip their breakfast almost everyday. About 24% of the students hardly pay attention to the relationship between their nutritional condition and their meals. More than seventy percents of the students are taking the instant foods as one of their favorite dishes. The food intake score showed large variation($0{\sim}14$). In general the girls marked higher score than the boys. The students from financially better homes and the students from the parents of higher education marked higher scores. From the 5 scale preference test it was shown that fruits the most favored eatings of the students while the fish and crab scored the lowest mark.

Purpose: We evaluated the motion-induced dosimetric effects on the field-in-field (FIF) technique for whole-breast irradiation (WBI) using actual patient organ motion data obtained from cine electronic portal imaging device (cine EPID) images during treatment. Materials and Methods: Ten breast cancer patients who received WBI after breast-conserving surgery were selected. The static FIF (SFIF) plan involved the application of two parallel opposing tangential and boost FIFs. To obtain the amplitude of the internal organ motion during treatment, cine EPID images were acquired five times for each patient. The outside contour of the breast (OCB) and chest wall (CW) contour were tracked using in-house motion analysis software. Intrafractional organ motion was analyzed. The dynamic FIF (DFIF) reflecting intrafractional organ motion incorporated into the SFIF plan was calculated and compared with the SFIF in terms of the dose homogeneity index (DHI90/10) for the target and V20 for the ipsilateral lung. Results: The average motion amplitudes along the X and Y directions were 1.84±1.09 mm and 0.69±0.50 mm for OCB and 1.88±1.07 mm and 1.66±1.49 mm for CW, respectively. The maximum motion amplitudes along the X and Y directions were 5.53 and 2.08 mm for OCB and 5.22 and 6.79 mm for CW, respectively. Significant differences in DHI90/10 values were observed between SFIF and DFIF (0.94 vs 0.95, P<0.05) in statistical analysis. The average V20 for the lung in the DFIF was slightly higher than that of the SFIF in statistical analysis (19.21 vs 19.00, P<0.05). Conclusion: Our findings indicate that the FIF technique can form a safe and effective treatment method for WBI. Regular monitoring using cine EPID images can be effective in reducing motion-induced dosimetric errors.
The purpose of this study is to determine how effectively waste tire recycled material mixed with flame retardant work in combating fire. As discovered in the previous study, waste tire mixed with cement mortar has more insulation capacity. However, this mortar is weak against fire. Therefore flame retardant, with a specific proportional mix, will be added to increase its fire prevention capacity. Tests will be made in accordance with ISO 5657 procedures for measuring fire ignition time, flame and shape variation of test pieces at the Building Material Test Institute. The test piece will be set up with horizontal levels having a constant radiation heat of $1{\sim}5W/cm^2$. Temperature transfers and increases from the surface into the interior. Combustible gases result due to pyrolysis, and regular contact is maintained between the fire source and the center of the test piece for assessment purposes. Ignition has not been occurred without adding retardant meaning that there is almost no possibility of ignition of waste tire particle. This fact can be considered as fire load to appreciate a volume of combustion materials. Flame is not occurred due to heat-absorbing effect by adding non-organic series retardant into waste tire particle. Conclusions have been summarized as follows; 1) Combustion of building material can be decreased by adding retardant to waste tire-mixing mortar. But compressive strength and insulation capacity of the material should be measured later. 2) Firing prevention and ignition are main points of building fire. Reasonable fire engineering assessment of interior material should be made for establishing effective disaster prevention system.
Presented in this paper is a brief summary of the basic theory and observation from a laboratory investigation aimed at determining flow characteristics and ice jam topography in a sinuous channel, and in a single-bend channel. The sinuous channel comprised thirteen $90^{\circ}$ bends and was of comparatively small s\aspect ratio. The single-bend channel was a $180^{\circ}$ bend, which was an order of magnitude large in width as well as aspect ratios than the sinuous channel. The simulated ices were polyethylene and polypropylene beads and block. The streamwise velocities near the bottom were larger than that of surface in sinuous channel and forming ice jam in sinuous channel, this phenoumena were found strongly. Jams were generally thicker along the inner bank of bends. The path of maximum-streamwise velocity was displaced towards approachs side of the inner bank of bends. Radial variation of jam thickness was to be regular by increasing size of ice fragments. The rate of jam head progression around outer bank of the single bend was faster than that of inner bank and its velocity was roughly steady. With increasing Froude number, jm thickness became less uniformly distributed; being generally thicker along the inner bank and near the jam's toe. Two-layer model might be adaptable for the computing the streamwise velocity in shallow river bends. Two cells of secondary flow cound be expected in ice covered-river bends.
The Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES) consists of Health Interview Survey, Health Behaviour Survey, Nutrition Survey, and Health Examination, and is designed to produce a broad range of descriptive health and nutritional statistics for sex and age subdomains of the population. These data can be used to measure and monitor the health and nutritional status of the population of Korea. The survey has been conducted three times from 1998. The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(KCDC) is preparing for the 4th survey which is to be conducted from 2007 through 2009. This study is to design a sample for the 4th survey. The main new feature of the sampling design is using a rolling sampling design method. Since KCDC has imposed some operational requirements, e,g., the needs of producing the annual national statistics and of year-round data collection by some regular staffs, a rolling sampling design method is introduced. This is the first time in history of applying a rolling sampling design for a national-wide large scale survey in Korea. Bringing in the rolling sampling, measurement variation due to different data collectors may be minimized.

This study aims at numerically investigating the water-surface characteristics such as wave height distribution depending on the current direction around the three-dimensional permeable submerged breakwaters in wave-current coexisting field which has not been considered in detail so far. In addition, the characteristics of the velocity field including the average flow velocity, longshore current and turbulent kinetic energy, which act as the main external forces of formation of salient, are also examined. For numerical analysis, olaFlow which is open source code of CFD was used and the numerical tests included different types of target waves, both regular waves and irregular waves. Numerical results indicated that wave height variation with wave following or opposing a current behind the submerged breakwater is closely related to turbulent kinetic energy. Furthermore, it was found that weaker longshore currents are formed under wave-current coexisting field compared to the non-current conditions, and transport flow is attenuated. As a result, it was possible to understand the influence of current existence and direction (following and opposing) on the formation of the salient formed behind the submerged breakwaters.
Typhoons, torrential rainfall, and heavy snowfall cause catastrophic losses each year in the Republic of Korea. Therefore, if we can know the possibility of this phenomenon in advance through regular observations, it will be greatly beneficial to Korean society. Korea is surrounded by sea on its three sides, and the sea surface temperature (SST) directly or indirectly affects the development of typhoons, heavy rainfall, and heavy snowfall. Therefore, the characteristics of SST variability related to the high impact weather are investigated in this paper. The heavy rainfall in Korea was distributed around Seoul, Gyeonggi, and west and southern coast. The heavy snowfall occurred mainly in the eastern coastal (hereafter Youngdong Heavy Snow) and the southwestern region (hereafter Honam-type heavy snow). The SST variability was slightly different depending on the type and major occurrence regions of the high impact weather. When the torrential rain occurred, the SST variability was significantly increased in the regions extending to Jindo-Jeju island-Ieodo-Shanghai in China. When the heavy snow occurred, the SST variability has reduced in the southern sea of Jeju island, regardless of the type of heavy snowfall, whereas the SST variability has increased in the East Sea near $130^{\circ}E$ and $39^{\circ}N$. Areas with high SST variability are anticipated to be used as a basis for studying the atmospheric-oceanic interaction mechanism as well as for determining the background atmospheric aerosol observation area.

In the previous study, both the wave characteristics at the tip of composite breakwater and on caisson were investigated by applying olaFlow numerical model of three-dimensional regular waves. In this paper, the same numerical model and layout/shape of composite breakwater as applied the previous study under the action of one directional irregular waves were used to analyze two and three-dimensional spatial change of wave force including the impulsive breaking wave pressure applied to trunk of breakwater, the effect of rear region, and the occurrence of diffracted waves at the tip of caisson located on the high crested rubble mound. In addition, the frequency spectrum, mean significant wave height, mean horizontal velocity, and mean turbulent kinetic energy through the numerical analysis were studied. In conclusion, the larger wave pressure occurs at the front wall of caisson around the still water level than the original design conditions when it generates the shock-crushing wave pressure in three-dimensional analysis condition. Which was not occurred by two-dimensional analysis. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the wave pressure distribution at the caisson changes along the length of breakwater when the same significant incident wave was applied to the caisson. Although there is difference in magnitude, but its variation shows the similar tendency with the case of previous study.
