The presence of a layer of vegetation which is relevant in river engineering or coastal engineering can modify the overall flow resistance, turbulent characteristics of flow. The patch of vegetation can be modelled and studied in a simple porous cylinder by previous researchers. Fully three dimensional Large Eddy Simulation is conducted in flow past a porous cylinder with a solid volume fraction (SVF) 0f 20%. The porous cylinder of diameter D contains 89 smaller cylinders which diameter is 0.048D in a regular staggered way. Reynolds number based on porous cylinder diameter D and the bulk velocity is 10,000. The large scale shedding is qualitatively similar to the one observed in the non-porous case (SVF=100%). The difference in the dynamics of the separated shear layer and the streamwise flow penetrating through the porous cylinder are compared with those in the non-porous cylinder. In particular, the wake billows form a larger distance from the back of the porous cylinder.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to investigate survival rates of the implants used in implant assisted removable partial dentures (IARPDs). MATERIALS AND METHODS. The study was conducted on 21 patients who were treated with IARPDs. The mean follow-up period for IARPD patients ranged from 12 to 185 months (mean 47.9 months). A total of 58 implants were used for IARPDs in two different modalities: 41 for surveyed crowns and 17 for overdentures. The survival of implants was determined by clinical and radiographic evaluations considering relevant factors: location, RPD classification, opposing dentition, splinting, and implant diameter. RESULTS. The survival rate of total 58 implants was 93.1%: 95.1% for implants supporting surveyed crowns and 88.2% for implants used in overdentures. Considering only the implants supporting surveyed crown, regular diameter implants showed a higher survival rate than narrow or wide diameter implants. CONCLUSION. The survival rate of the implants used in IARPDs was 93.1% (surveyed crown: 95.1%, overdenture: 88.2%).

This paper describes a research work on the die design for the deep drawing & ironing(D.D.I.) of high pressure gas cylinder. D.D.I die set is large-sized die used in horizontal press, which is usually composed of drawing, and ironing die. Design method of D.D.I. die set is very different from those of conventional cold forging die set.. Out diameter of the die set is fixed because of press specification and out diameter of the insert should be as small as possible for saving cost of material. In this study, D.D.I die set has been designed to consider those characteristics and the feasibility of the designed die has been verified by FE-analysis. In addition, the automated system of die design has been developed in AutoCAD R14 by formulating the applied methods to the regular rules.
In case of the insufficient horizontal bone loss, a regular diameter implant is not possible without lateral bone augmentation. In this situation, narrow diameter implants (NDIs) could be the alternative to lateral bone augmentation procedures. However, complication generally expected with the NDI is implant fracture. Recently, the survival rate and success rate of NDI in the posterior region are similar to that of standard-diameter implants (SDIs). These 3 case reports demonstrate the incorporation of NDI to replace missing mandibular posterior teeth. So far, the follow-up examination period was maintained and no unusual complications were presented for more than four years. Long term follow-up clinical data are needed to confirm the excellent clinical performance of these implants.
Primary stability is a fundamental criteria of implant success. There has been various trials to increase initial stability and bone to implant contact. The objective of osteotome technique is to preserve all the existing bone by minimizing or even eliminating the drilling sequence of the surgical protocol. The bone layer adjacent to the osteotomy site is progressively compacted with various bone condensers(osteotomes) this will result in a denser bone to implant contact. This improved bone density helps to optimize primary implant stability in low density bone. The use of wide implant is one of methods to increse primary stability. They can be used in special situations in which they can increase the surface area available for implant anchorage and improve their primary stability The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the osteotome technique and implant width on primary stability. Osteotome technique was compared with conventional drilling method by resonance frequency measurments according to the implant fixtures diameter. The results were as follows: 1. The average of ISQ value was sightly higher in osteotome technique, but there was not statistically significant in regular and narrow implant(p <0.05). 2. Either osteotome technique or conventional technique. ISQ value was significantly higer as increasing of implant diameter(p <0.05). 3. ISQ value of drilling technique was higer than those of osteotome technique in wide implant. It was assumed to be caused by difference in final preparation diameter.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the appropriateness of transverse cerebellar diameter and abdominal circumference (TCD/AC ratio) as variables to evaluate intrauterine growth restriction of the fetus. From April 2019 to March 2021, 784 pregnant women who underwent ultrasound as a regular checkup at I hospital were retrospectively analyzed using the transverse cerebellar diameter and abdominal circumference measurements. In simple regression analysis, transverse cerebellar diameter and abdominal circumference had an effect of 97.2% and 97.5% on gestational age (p<0.001). In addition, the percentile of the TCD/AC ratio for each gestational age group was calculated through frequency analysis, and the 95th percentile of intrauterine growth restriction prediction was 14.2. As a result, it is thought that the TCD/AC ratio can be used as a useful variable to evaluate the normal growth of the fetus and predict the IUGR.

Background: The prognosis of wide implants tends to be controversial. While wider implants were initially expected to result in a larger osseointegration area and have higher levels of primary stability, they were reported to have a relatively high rate of failure. The clinical outcome of ultrawide implants of more than 6 mm in diameter was evaluated through a retrospective study. Methods: The investigation was conducted on patients who had received ultrawide implant (${\geq}6mm$ diameter) placements in Seoul National University Bundang Hospital from January 2008 to December 2013. Complications were investigated during the maintenance period, and marginal bone loss was measured using periapical radiography. Primary stability immediately after the implant placement and second stability after second surgery or during impression were measured using $Osstell^{(R)}$ Mentor (Osstell, Sweden) as an implant stability quotient (ISQ). Results: Fifty-eight implants were placed in 53 patients (30 male, 23 female), and they were observed for an average of $50.06{\pm}23.49$ months. The average ISQ value increased from $71.22{\pm}10.26$ to $77.48{\pm}8.98$ (P < 0.005). The primary and secondary stability shows significantly higher at the mandible than at the maxilla (P < 0.001). However, mean survival rate shows 98.28 %. Average marginal bone loss of 0.018 and 0.045 mm were measured at 12 and 24 months after the loading and 0.14 mm at final follow-up date (mean 46.25 months), respectively. Also in this study, the bone loss amount was noticeably small compared to regular implants reported in previous studies. Conclusions: The excellent clinical outcome of ultrawide implants was confirmed. It was determined that an ultrawide implant can be used as an alternative when the bone quality in the posterior teeth is relatively low or when a previous implant has failed.

Statement of problem. Platform switching in implant prosthesis has been used for esthetic and biological purpose. But there are few reports for this concept. Purpose. The purpose of this study is evaluation of platform switching in wide implant by three dimensional finite element analysis. Materials and Methods. The single implant and prosthesis was modeled in accordance with the geometric designs for Osstem implant system. Three-dimensional finite element models were developed for (1) a wide diameter 3i type titanium implant 5 mm in diameter, 13 mm in length with wide cemented abutment, titanium alloy abutment screw, and prosthesis (2) a wide diameter 3i type titanium implant 5 mm in diameter, 13 mm in length with regular cemented abutment, titanium alloy abutment screw and prosthesis(platform switching) was made for finite element analysis. The abutment screws were subjected to a tightening torque of 30 Ncm. The amount of preload was hypothesized to 650N, and round and flat type prostheses were loaded to 200 N. Four loading offset point (0, 2, 4, 6 mm from the center of the implants) were evaluated. Models were processed by the software programs HyperMesh and ANSA. The PAM-CRASH 2G simulation software was used for analysis of stress. The PAM-VIEW and HyperView were used for post processing. Results. The results from experiment were as follows; 1. von Mises stress value is increased in order of bone, abutment, implant and abutment screw. 2. von Mises stress of abutment screw is lower when platform switching. 3. von Mises stress of implant is lower when platform switching until loading offset 4 mm. 4. von Mises stress of abutment is similar between each other. 5. von Mises stress of bone is slightly higher when platform switching. Conclusion. The von Mises stress pattern of implant components is favor when platform switch ing but slightly higher in bone stress distribution than use of wide abutment. The research about stress distribution is essential for investigation of the cortical bone loss.

The flow characteristics of synthetic jet depending on rectangular and circular jet exit configuration are investigated using numerical computation with cross flow. In rectangular slot, synthetic jet generates the strong vortex but supplies fewer momentum and effectiveness of flow control is reduced along flow direction. In circular slot, regular vortex is formed from slot center to end. It affects the wider region than rectangular slot. The distribution of wall shear stress is considered in order to indicate the effectiveness of flow control device for flow separation delay. Consequently, circular slot is a more suitable candidate for delaying flow separation. In order to derive the optimal shape of a circular slot exit, hole gap and diameter that affect the flow structure and flow control were analyzed. As a result, consider the hole diameter and gap of circular slot exit design, effectiveness of the flow control can be increased.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to measure the insertion torque of orthodontic miniscrews regarding changes in their shape, diameter, and length. Methods: Torque values were measured during continuous insertion of the miniscrews into solid rigid polyurethane foam, using a torque tester of driving motor type with a regular speed of 3 rpm. Orthodontic miniscrews (Biomaterials Korea, Seoul, Korea) of cylindrical type and taper type were used. Results: Increasing the length and diameter of the miniscrews increased the maximum insertion torque value in both cylindrical and taper type screws. Insertion torque was increased at the incomplete head of the cylindrical type screw, and at the tapered part of the taper type screw. The insertion torque value of miniscrews was influenced most by diameter, then shape and length. As a result, it was shown that the diameter of the screw had the most influence on insertion torque, and the taper type screw had a higher torque value than the cylindrical type screw. Conclusion: Therefore, a large diameter or taper type screw are adequate for areas of thin cortical bone with a large interdental space, and a small diameter or cylindrical type screw are adequate in the mandibular molar area or the midpalatal area having thick cortical bone.
