  • The COVID-19 pandemic poses a serious threat to health and safety worldwide, significantly adding to the work burden of fire officials. Fire officials experience high levels of physical and mental pressure in various situations, and such stress can lead to psychological exhaustion. The goal of this study is to investigate the level of psychological exhaustion among fire officials according to gender, age, and years of service and specific roles. In this study, a questionnaire survey was conducted on fire officials in various regions of Korea, and the degree of psychological exhaustion by position was analyzed. The results indicated a difference in the level of psychological exhaustion across different roles, such as fire suppression, rescue, and emergency services. In particular, paramedics exhibited higher levels of psychological exhaustion compared to those in rescue, fire suppression, and administrative roles. This study contributes to identifying specific measures to improve the mental health of fire officials and emphasizes the need for differentiated stress management and support programs tailored to each role. Based on the results, this research provides foundational data to address the mental health issues of fire officials and will contribute to future research and policy development.

  • The condition of financial services in Indonesia is unique, based on various characteristics, behaviors, and preferences. Therefore, the study of finance and banking is interesting to study as a recommendation for government policies. This paper aims to analyze the barriers to accessing formal financial services in Indonesia and why informal financial services are preferred. This paper presents a case study of financial inclusion in selected provinces in Indonesia using the SOFIA dataset from the Ministry of National Development Planning. Overall, this data consists of 20,000 individuals from 4 provinces and 93 regions representing the population in eastern Indonesia. The analysis was carried out by processing individual-level cross-sectional data surveyed in 2017 using the probit binary logistic method. The results identify the individual barriers in accessing formal financial services, including account ownership, saving, and credit activities in the formal financial institutions, and amplify the image by analyzing what determinants affect people to choose informal institutions. We found that some individual characteristics such as age, gender, education, income, employment status, residence, and access to technology significantly affect the barrier to formal financial services in East Indonesia.

  • In general, using information and communication technology (ICT) to support problem-solving is becoming increasingly common across various industries, sectors, and regions. However, there have been few analyses on the factors affecting ICT problem-solving among officers working at People's Committees of mountainous communes. Using survey data, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and multivariable linear regression, this study examined the factors that influence the use of ICT in resolving works among community officers at People's Committees in the Northwest mountainous region of Vietnam. The results showed that three factors with statistical significance affecting the dependent variable are computer skills, gender, and occupation of community officers. Therefore, it is recommended that officers participate in ICT training courses or engage in regular self-study to improve their computer skills and qualifications. Both men and women should also prioritize the use of ICT equipment. The study also found that officers in managerial positions were more likely to use ICT for problem-solving than their counterparts. However, some factors that affect the use of ICT were not identified in this study, leaving room for further research.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the personal and social environmental factors affecting leisure time physical activity (LTPA) among adults living in rural communities. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with a convenience sample of 282 adults living in three rural towns of Chungcheongbuk province. Leisure time physical activity was assessed through the Korean version of the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ), and social influence and social cohesion of social environment were assessed using reliable and validated measures. Multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted to explore personal and social environmental factors associated with LTPA. Results: The overall prevalence of leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) was 40.0%. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that LTPA participation was associated with gender (OR=2.60, 95% CI=1.47-4.58), healthy eating (OR=1.15, 95% CI=1.01-1.31), unhealthy eating (OR=0.70, 95% CI=0.53-0.93) and social influence for physical activity (OR=1.11, 95% CI=1.03-1.20). However, social cohesion was not correlated with engaging in LTPA. Conclusion: Both personal and social environmental factors are associated with LPTA among rural adults living in Eup-Myen regions. Interventions to promote LTPA would likely benefit from considering healthy dietary intake and social influence for physical activity.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Connectedness to Nature Scale(K-CNS), which was translated from the Connectedness to Nature Scale(CNS) developed by Mayer and Frantz. For this study, questionnaires were conducted with a sample of 407 Korean citizens from various backgrounds and regions, with the ages ranging from 17 to 60. Exploratory factor analysis, internal consistency test and correlation checks were conducted on this questionnaires data. The results of exploratory factor analysis supported that the K-CNS has 10 items in a single factor. The internal consistency of the K-CNS was .880. The K-CNS was positively correlated to the NEP (New Environmental Paradigm), satisfaction with life, mental health, compassionate love, and negatively correlated to stress response. In addition, differences were found by group and age, but not by the gender. The K-CNS was higher in the natural-friendly group than in the general group. By age, the K-CNS scores was high in 40s and 50s than 10-39 years old.

  • This paper investigates the patterns of language choice among bilingual Korean students in New Zealand and presents the findings by the individual variables which influence their language behaviour. Respondent variables such as gender, present age, age at migration, region, and duration of residence were adopted as frames of analyses as they were thought to bring us macro-sociolinguistic features of language behaviour in a broad sense. A total of 177 primary to tertiary students from three regions of New Zealand (Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch) were surveyed to find out characteristics of their language choice patterns with diverse interlocutors in a wide range of contexts. It was found that the younger AAM (age at migration) group showed a greater shift towards English. In addition, the longer the respondents had resided in New Zealand the more they used English. The results also revealed that females generally used less English and were more flexible choosing either Korean or English according to the situation. The younger respondents were using more English in some exceptional contexts where tertiary students were ahead of secondary students. Respondents from Wellington, on the whole, shifted towards English more than others from Auckland, and Christchurch. From these findings some implications are suggested for Korean students, teachers, researchers, and the government not only in New Zealand but also in Korea.
