  • In all building's energy simulation applications, solar radiation must be calculated on inclined surfaces. Various solar radiation models based on measured data of specific region were used in building simulation programs. Therefore, we should choose the appropriate solar radiation model for Seoul. The purpose of this study is to compare four solar radiation models on inclined surfaces that are widely used in building energy simulations. In this case, it can be said the appropriate model in Seoul is the Isotropic model.

  • A numerical analysis is carried out for the marine propellers in open water conditions to investigate the effect of the wall treatments in model and full scale. The standard wall function to apply the low of the wall and the two layer zonal model to calculate the whole boundary layer for a transition phenomenon are used with one turbulence model. To determine an appropriate distance of the first grid point from the wall when using the wall function, a formula based on Reynolds number is suggested, which can estimate the maximum y+ satisfying the logarithmic law. In the model scale, it is confirmed that a transition calculation is required for a model scale propeller with low Reynolds number that the transient region appears widely. While in the full scale, the wall function calculation is recommended for efficient calculations due to the turbulence dominant flow for large Reynolds number.

  • The accurate prediction of elastoplasticity under prescribed workloads is essential in the optimization of engineering structures. Mechanical experiments are carried out with the goal of obtaining reliable sets of material parameters for a chosen constitutive law via inverse identification. In this work, two sample geometries made of high strength steel plates were evaluated to determine the optimal configuration for the identification of Ludwik's nonlinear isotropic hardening law. Finite element model updating(FEMU) was used to calibrate the material parameters. FEMU computes the parameter changes based on the Hessian matrix, and the sensitivity fields that report changes of computed fields with respect to material parameter changes. A sensitivity analysis was performed to determine the influence of the sample geometry on parameter identifiability. It was concluded that the sample with thinned gauge region with a large curvature radius provided more reliable material parameters.

  • Being rapidly increased in population of the Elderly supporting of the Elderly is no longer family's and personal problems. It is social issue that demand measures by the government. Though many kinds of welfare policies for the Elderly have been established, it is not sufficient both in quality and quantity. In order to support residents of region, welfare facilities which based on community welfare have been supplied. This study is targeted on health facility for the elderly of Japan. First purpose, it is to acheive basic information about health facility. Second purpose of this study is to basic data for planning of facility.

  • This paper presents the virtual mass method to implement the prediction of total resistance for ice-going ship in floe ice region based on the combined method of CFD and DEM. Two ways of floe ice distribution are adopted for the analysis and comparison. The synthetic ice model test has been conducted to determine the optimal virtual mass coefficients for the two different floe ice distributions. Moreover, the further verification and prediction are developed in different ice conditions. The results show that, the fixed and random distributions in numerical method can simulate the interaction of ship and ice vividly, the trend of total resistance varying with the speed and ice concentration obtained by the numerical simulation is consistent with the model test. The random distribution of floe ice has higher similarity and better accuracy than fixed distribution.

  • This study presents a bivariate extension of the goodness-of-fit measure for regional frequency distributions developed by Hosking and Wallis [1993] for use with the method of L-moments. Utilising the approximate joint normal distribution of the regional L-skewness and L-kurtosis, a graphical representation of the confidence region on the L-moment diagram can be constructed as an ellipsoid. Candidate distributions can then be accepted where the corresponding the oretical relationship between the L-skewness and L-kurtosis intersects the confidence region, and the chosen distribution would be the one that minimises the Mahalanobis distance measure. Based on a set of Monte Carlo simulations it is demonstrated that the new bivariate measure generally selects the true population distribution more frequently than the original method. An R-code implementation of the method is available for download free-of-charge from the GitHub code depository and will be demonstrated on a case study of annual maximum series of peak flow data from a homogeneous region in Italy.

  • In this study, by reflecting flow of age, possibility of new theme park development as private investments business based on source that is farming village that is not tried to before is verified and by analyzing potential of the site, effectiveness of new theme park development is examined. "Nonghyup Anseong Meadow Anseong-si Gyeonggi-do" is selected as researched site where accessibility is good as there is near to National Capital region and nature condition is also good. Demands are forecasted using visiting intention and realizing index through analogical method and by analyzing existing data related with increase of tourism business that people can experience English village and increasing demand of experiencing farming region tourism demands are forecasted. The results are at below. First, As average expenditure per one person is 52,209 won that is shown in result of survey, if multiplying increasing rate of price and the number of visiting people that is optimistic forecasting figure, the whole expenditure of visitors per one year is from 10.54 billions to 13.85 billions won. Second is potential power of demand aspects. Potential power of that theme park was re-examined through demands forecasting analysis through survey. Experiencing farming regions theme park business that is informed through analysis of potential power of development and demand aspects has value to invest as new business based on farming regions sources, as a result of searching through diverse aspects such as tourism, economy, public interest and cultural aspect and so on.

  • This paper proposed a new VLSI (Very Large Scale Integrated Circuit) architecture for stereo matching in real time. We minimized the amount of calculation and the number of memory accesses through analyzing calculation of stereo matching. From this, we proposed a new stereo matching calculating cell and a new hardware architecture by expanding it in parallel, which concurrently calculates cost function for all pixels in a search range. After expanding it, we proposed a new hardware architecture to calculate cost function for 2-dimensional region. The implemented hardware can be operated with minimum 250Mhz clock frequence in FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) environment, and has the performance of 805fps in case of the search range of 64 pixels and the image size of $640{\times}480$.

  • For the proper preservation and utilisation of Regional Modern Heritage Buildings, it is necessary to study the history of local modern architecture based on a broad understanding of the region and also to architectural history. The aim of this study is expand the awareness and multi-faceted interpretation of modern architecture in Kwangju in the 1940's to 1950's, by exploring the origin of regional modern architecture from new perspectives. As a part of the discussions of the perspectives, this study will be therefore explained with the regional correlations between the architect Kim Han-seop's works and activity, influential politicians, strong enthusiasm of education, architectural characteristics of the main building of Chosun University, architecture schools and association in Kwangju. Then, it will be finalised that Kim Han-seop and the main building of Chosun University are directly and indirectly correlated and affected each other strongly.

  • The aim of this experimental study was to analyze the effect of the shape parameters and chamber pressure of a land-based oscillating water column (OWC) in regular incident waves. The magnitude of the free surface elevations inside the chamber was measured in a two-dimensional wave tank for various chamber skirt drafts and bottom slope angles. The surface elevations were also measured under both open chamber and partially open chamber conditions. From these measurements, the optimum shape of the OWC device could be predicted for the maximum wave energy conversion efficiency. It was found that the resonance frequency of the OWC system associated with incident waves moved toward the long wave region with increments of the draft of the chamber skirt and bottom slope. The behavior of the free surface elevation inside the chamber was also found to be dependent on the chamber pressure.
