  • This study aims to define the phylogenetic relationship within Korean Pinus L. and to find the molecular markers which resolve the phylogenetic relationship in genus Pinus. cpDNA atpF-H and psbA-trnH regions were used as molecular markers. We performed the molecular phylogenetic study on 17 taxa of Pinus in Korea. The combined analyses of two gene loci showed that Korean Pinus was a monophyletic group supported by 100% BP. According to the results of separate analyses, psbA-trnH region seems to work better resolving power to clarify the phylogenetic ambiguity in Korean Pinus than those of atpF-H region. Also, we tried to checked the value and resolution of two chloroplast DNA loci on phylogenetic implications.

  • This paper aims to analyze the causal relationship between exports and regional economic growth based on the provincial data over the period from 1952 to 2004. To reflect the regional and chronical characteristics, this paper divides China into three regions; Eastern, Central and Western regions, and also the whole period into two sub-periods; before and after 1979 when the Open-door policy(ODP) was initiated and applies Granger causality analysis. The Granger causality tests showed that exports Granger cause economic growth in the Eastern region, but not in the Central and Western regions, as a whole. When the period is divided, in the Eastern region, causal relation between the two variables was not found before the Open-door policy. For the second period, however it turns out that exports cause the region's economic growth. This result is consent with the fact that the region has been a main beneficiary of the policy. For the Central region, the tests showed no causality in the pre-ODP period, but significant bidirectional causality in the post-ODP period. Meanwhile, in the Western region, exports turned out causing economic growth significantly before the ODP, while economic growth appeared to causing trade after the ODP.

  • We report, for the first time, the afternoon (i.e., from noon to sunset time) observations of the northern mid-latitude E-region field-aligned irregularities (FAIs) made by the very high frequency (VHF) coherent backscatter radar operated continuously since 29 December 2009 at Daejeon (36.18°N, 127.14°E, 26.7°N dip latitude) in South Korea. We present the statistical characteristics of the mid-latitude afternoon E-region FAIs based on the continuous radar observations. Echo signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the afternoon E-region FAIs is found to be as high as 35 dB, mostly occurring around 100-135 km altitudes. Most spectral widths of the afternoon echoes are close to zero, indicating that the irregularities during the afternoon time are not related to turbulent plasma motions. The occurrence of afternoon E-regional FAI is observed with significant seasonal variation, with a maximum in summer and a minimum in winter. Furthermore, to investigate the afternoon E-region FAIs-Sporadic E (Es) relationship, the FAIs have also been compared with Es parameters based on observations made from an ionosonde located at Icheon (37.14°N, 127.54°E, 27.7°N dip latitude), which is 100 km north of Daejeon. The virtual height of Es (h'Es) is mainly in the height range of 105 km to 110 km, which is 5 km to 10 km greater than the bottom of the FAI. There is no relationship between the FAI SNR and the highest frequencies (ftEs) (or blanket frequencies (fbEs)). SNR of FAIs, however, is found to be related well with (ftEs-fbEs).

  • The anchor-free object detector CenterNet regards the object as a center point and predicts it based on the Gaussian circle region. For each object's center point, CenterNet directly regresses the width and height of the objects and finally gets the boundary range of the objects. However, the critical range of the object's center point can not be accurately limited by using the Gaussian circle region to constrain the prediction region, resulting in many low-quality centers' predicted values. In addition, because of the large difference between the width and height of different objects, directly regressing the width and height will make the model difficult to converge and lose the intrinsic relationship between them, thereby reducing the stability and consistency of accuracy. For these problems, we proposed a center point prediction method based on the Gaussian elliptic region and a size component regression method based on the small solution space. First, we constructed a Gaussian ellipse region that can accurately predict the object's center point. Second, we recode the width and height of the objects, which significantly reduces the regression solution space and improves the convergence speed of the model. Finally, we jointly decode the predicted components, enhancing the internal relationship between the size components and improving the accuracy consistency. Experiments show that when using CenterNet as the improved baseline and Hourglass-104 as the backbone, on the MS COCO dataset, our improved model achieved 44.7%, which is 2.6% higher than the baseline.

  • The calibration equations for Brix value determination of intact mango were developed using the NIR spectra in a short wavelength region from 700 to 1100 nm. Multiple linear regression (MLR) and partial least square regression (PLS) was used for the calibration. It was found that the best wavelength region for PLS calibration from 900 to 1000 nm was similar to the wavelength region selected by MLR from 906 nm to 996 nm. Both MLR and selected region PLS provided sufficiently accurate prediction equations for Brix determination of intact mango. For MLR, the prediction results were SEP = 0.45 Brix and Bias = -0.04 Brix while PLS prediction results were SEP : 0.46 Brix and Bias = -0.2 Brix. It was concluded that MLR and PLS would have similar abilities in making calibration equation for Brix determination of intact mango if the appropriate wavelengths or wavelength region were selected. The appropriate wavelength region for PLS regression could be assumed by using the wavelength region selected by MLR in place of random selection, The relationship between calibration results of MLR and PLS regression is discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to discover the interaction between credit growth and operational self-sustainability and to examine factors that affect credit growth and operational self-sustainability of people's credit funds (PCFs). Credit growth and operational self-sustainability are factors affecting the operations and the goals of people's credit funds (PCFs) in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. After regression analysis on a set of panel data from 2013 to 2018 of 24 PCFs, it appears that deposit growth and loan-to-deposit ratio have positive relationships with credit growth, while capital adequacy ratio and operational self-sustainability have negative relationships with credit growth of PCFs; capital adequacy ratio, deposit growth and income have positive relationships with operational self-sustainability, while credit growth and non-performing loan ratio have negative relationships with the operational self-sustainability of PCFs. At the same time, credit growth and operational self-sustainability have a relationship to interact with each other in a contrary trend. The results of this research are accurate according to the characteristics and development history of PCFs in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam from 2013-2018. This study helps researchers and managers to understand the key determinants for better management of PCFs.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the susceptibility from landslides in the Lai Chau region of Vietnam, using Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing data, focusing on the relationship between tectonic fractures and landslides. Landslide locations were identified from an interpretation of aerial photographs and field surveys. Topographic and geological data and satellite images were collected, processed, and constructed into a spatial database using GIS data and image processing techniques, and a scheme of the tectonic fracturing of the crust in the Lai Chau region was established. In this scheme, Lai Chau was identified as a region with low crustal fractures, with the grade of tectonic fracture having a close relationship with landslide occurrence. The factors found to influence landslide occurrence were: topographic slope, topographic aspect, topographic curvature, distance from drainage, lithology, distance from a tectonic fracture and land cover. Landslide prone areas were analyzed and mapped using the landslide occurrence factors employing the probability-likelihood ratio method. The results of the analysis were verified using landslide location data, and these showed a satisfactory agreement between the hazard map and existing landslide location data.

  • An empirical relationship between parameters from SP curves and tensile properties has been systematically investigated by experimental tests and FEM simulations. A series of SP and tensile tests were performed. SP tests were also simulated by FE analysis with various tensile properties. It was found that the yield loads(Py) and the maximum loads( $P_{MAX}$) in SP curves were linearly related with the yield strength($\sigma$$_{o}$) and the tensile strength($\sigma$$_{UTS}$), respectively. The yield loads defined from the intersection point of two lines tangent to the elastic bending region and plastic bending region showed better relation to the yield strength than those from offset line. The maximum loads in SP curves showing plastic instability region was linearly related with the tensile strengths. The slope of SP curves in simulation results had a close correlation with the hardening coefficient and hardening strength as well.l.l.l.

  • This study was undertaken to examine relationship between tooth size and arch dimension in dental crowding. Two groups of dental casts were selected on the basis of dental crowding. One group, consisting of 51 pairs of dental casts (24 male and 27 female), exhibited remarkable dental crowding. A second group, consisting of 60 pairs of dental casts (30 male and 30 female), exhibited little or no crowding. Mean and standard deviation of the following parameters were used to compare two groups. individual and collective mesiodistal tooth diameters, buccal and lingual arch widths and arch area. The following results were obtained. 1. The crowed group revealed larger tooth size than noncrowded group. (p < 0.01) 2. The crowded group smaller maxillary dental arch dimension than noncrowded group except lingual arch width at canine region. (p < 0.01) 3. The corwded group revealed smaller mandibular dental arch dimension than noncrowded group except lingal arch width at second premalar region in the male and buccal arch width at canine, premolar region in the female. (p < 0.01) 4. The crowded group revealed smaller arch area than noncrowded group in the female (p < 0.01), but there was no significance in the male.
