Background: Cell behavior is the key to tissue regeneration. Given the fact that most of the cells used in tissue engineering are anchorage-dependent, their behavior including adhesion, growth, migration, matrix synthesis, and differentiation is related to the design of the scaffolds. Thus, characterization of the scaffolds is highly required. Micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) provides a powerful platform to analyze, visualize, and explore any portion of interest in the scaffold in a 3D fashion without cutting or destroying it with the benefit of almost no sample preparation need. Main body: This review highlights the relationship between the scaffold microstructure and cell behavior, and provides the basics of the micro-CT method. In this work, we also analyzed the original papers that were published in 2016 through a systematic search to address the need for specific improvements in the methods section of the papers including the amount of provided information from the obtained results. Conclusion: Micro-CT offers a unique microstructural analysis of biomaterials, notwithstanding the associated challenges and limitations. Future studies that will include micro-CT characterization of scaffolds should report the important details of the method, and the derived quantitative and qualitative information can be maximized.
In recent tissue engineering field, it is being reported that the fabrication of 3D scaffolds having high porous and controlled internal/external architectures can give potential contributions in cell adhesion, proliferation and differentiation. To fabricate these scaffolds, various solid free-form fabrication technologies are being applied. The solid free-form fabrication technology has made it possible to fabricate solid free-form 3D microstructures in layer-by-layer manner. In this research, we developed a multi-head deposition system (MHDS) and used design of experiment (DOE) to fabricate 3D scaffold having an optimized internal/external shape, Through the organization of experimental approach using DOE, the fabrication process of scaffold, which is composed of blended poly-caprolactone (PCL), poly-lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) and tricalcium phosphate (TCP), is established to get uniform line width, line height and porosity efficiently Moreover, the feasibility of application to the tissue engineering of MHDS is demonstrated by human bone marrow stromal cells (hBMSCs) proliferation test.
This paper presents analysis results for the effect of power control strategies on the part load performance of gas turbine based power generation systems utilizing exhaust heat of the gas turbine such as cumbined cycle power plants and regenerative gas turbines. For the combined cycle, part load efficiency variations were compared among different single shaft gas turbines representing various technology levels. Power control strategies considered were fuel only control and IGV control. It has been observed that gas turbines with higher design performances exhibit superior part load performances. Improvement of part load efficiency by adopting air flow modulation was analyzed and it is concluded that since the average combined cycle performance is affected by the range of IGV control as well as its temperature control principle, a control strategy appropriate for the load characteristics of the individual plant should be adopted. For the regenerative gas turbine, it is likewise concluded that maintaining exhaust temperature as high as possible by air flow rate modulation is required to increase part load efficiency.

Power flow characteristics of a hydro-mechanical transmission system(HMT) are investigated for tracked vehicle in steering. A HMT consisting of two hydrostatic pump motors(HST), several planetary gear trains and steer differential gear is considered. In order to obtain the direction and magnitude of the power flow of the HMT, network theory for the general power transmission is used. Network model for the HMT in steering is developed, which consists of shafts, nodes and transmission elements such as clutch, gear, etc. Power flow analysis procedure consists of two stages : (1) traction force analysis in steering, (2) power flow analysis in HMT. Torque and speed of every transmission element of the HMT is determined from the network analysis. Also, efficiency, mechanical and hydraulic power loss including HST, are obtained. In addition, the regenerative power flow resulting from steering can be studied in graphic display. The power flow analysis program(PCSTEER) developed in this work can be used as a useful design tool for the tracked vehicle with HMT.
