  • For a performance analysis of vibration isolation systems, the concept of vibration power flow can be employed preferably when noise radiated from the supporting structure with finite impedances is of interest. The idea is basically simple to understand and formulas for precise estimation of the vibration power are easy to derive. However, It is often required to simplify the process of experimentation under several assumptions due to instrumental limitations. For an example, rotational degree of freedom has not been well treated in bending vibrations of beam or plate-like structures. Yet, several recent studies showed that the moments and rotations play an important role in power transmission and should be taken into consideration carefully as the frequency range of interest goes to audibly high. Therefore, it is readily agreed that reduction of the noise radiation over the high frequency range can be effectively accomplished by adjusting the rotational stiffness of the isolator without changing the vibration isolator efficiency in low frequency range relevant to the translational stiffness of the isolator In this paper, the vibration power flow approach is applied to an AC motor installed on a finite plate in order to illustrate the contribution of the rotational vibration power to the total vibration power transmission. The effects of rotational stiffness of the isolator on the vibration power transmission are investigated by inserting various shapes of Isolators with different rotational stiffness but with $ame translational stiffness between the motor and the plate. The resultant noise radiation from the plate is presented to verify the proposed approach.

  • The broadband and discrete sources of sound in small cooling fans of propeller type and centrifugal type were investigated to understand the turbulent vortex structures from many bladed fans using ANSI test plenum for small air-moving devices (AMDs). The noise measurement method uses the plenum as a test apparatus to determine the acoustic source spectral density function at each operating conditions similar to real engineering applications based on acoustic similarity laws. The characteristics of fans including the head rise vs. volumetric flow rate performance were measured using a performance test facility. The sound power spectrum is decomposed into two non-dimensional functions: an acoustic source spectral distribution function F(St,.phi.) and an acoustic system response function G(He,.phi.) where St, He, and .phi. are the Strouhal number, the Helmholtz number, and the volumetric flow rate coefficient, respectively. The autospectra of radiated noise measurements for the fan operating at several volumetric flow rates,.phi., are analyzed using acoustical similarity. The rotating stall in the small propeller fan with a bell-mouth guided is mainly due to a leading edge separation. It creates a blockage in the passage and the reduction in the flow rate. The sound power levels with respect to the rotational speeds were measured to reveal the mechanisms of stall and/or surge for different loading conditions and geometries, for example, fans installed with a impinging plate. Lee and Meecham (1993) studied the effect of the large-scale motions like impinging normally on a flat plate using Large-Eddy Simulation(LES) and Lighthill's analogy.[ASME Winter Annual Meeting 1993, 93-WA/NCA-22]. The dipole and quadrupole sources in the fans tested are shown closely related to the vortex structures involved using cross-correlations of the hot-wire and microphone signals.

  • This research establishes design standards for vortex reduction devices (VRDs) aimed at minimizing underwater radiated noise by mitigating horseshoe vortex (HSV) and root vortex (RV) generated at the junction of appendages and the hull of underwater vehicles. Initial analysis replaced the influence of appendage dimensions and flow velocity with the Reynolds number by verifying the Reynolds similarity of vortex flows. The three-dimensional surfaces of VRDs were parameterized using Bezier curves. Optimal length-to-height ratios were identified by evaluating the vortex reduction performances of VRDs with various dimensions. Ultimately, non-dimensional design standards were derived for VRDs, ensuring effective vortex reduction across any appendage, thereby enhancing stealth performance.

  • Underwater noise radiated from submarines is directly related to the probability of being detected by the sonar of an enemy vessel. Therefore, minimizing the noise of a submarine is essential for improving survival outcomes. For modern submarines, as the speed and size of a submarine increase and noise reduction technology is developed, interest in flow noise around the hull has been increasing. In this study, a noise analysis technique was developed to predict flow noise generated around a submarine shape considering the free surface effect. When a submarine is operated near a free surface, turbulence-induced noise due to the turbulence of the flow and bubble noise from breaking waves arise. First, to analyze the flow around a submarine, VOF-based incompressible two-phase flow analysis was performed to derive flow field data and the shape of the free surface around the submarine. Turbulence-induced noise was analyzed by applying permeable FW-H, which is an acoustic analogy technique. Bubble noise was derived through a noise model for breaking waves based on the turbulent kinetic energy distribution results obtained from the CFD results. The analysis method developed was verified by comparison with experimental results for a submarine model measured in a Large Cavitation Tunnel (LCT).

  • In this paper, the system level EMC radiated emission test results of KoDSat(Korea Demonstration Satellite), its affects upon the Launch vehicle and H/W improving methods regarding its over exceed value of EMC specification are discussed. Regarding its over exceed value, we estimated that DAU of KoDSat generated the exceeded EMC noise source, and these test results were analyzed using the EMC2000 tool to find out how did it affect the FTS(Flight Termination Subsystem) of KSLV-1(Korea Small Launch Vehicle). To diminish the EMC noise source of UHF(430.1Mhz) band level, we redesigned the DAU power board to be applied the various schemes for EMI noise reduction such as grounding, shielding and EMI filtering, and also verified these reworks to analyze its diminishing affects in UHF band level by means of performing the DAU box level EMC test and performing the second KoDSat's system level EMC test.

  • Most of the existing rail structures have undergone a lot of aging since a considerable period of time has passed from completion. In particular, among existing railway bridges, many of the plate girder bridges are older bridges that have lived 40 to 60 years or more. Since the treadmill is directly connected to the girder without the ballast, the running load of the vehicle is directly transmitted to the bridge. Therefore, the shock and noise applied to the bridge are larger than those of the ballast bridge, and the dynamic shock and vibration are also relatively large. Therefore, it is very urgent to develop appropriate maintenance, repair and reinforcement technology for existing steel plate bridge. In this study, the authors introduced the characteristics of embedded rail (ERS) developed for improving the performance of the existing plate girder bridge and the techniques solving the vibration and noise problems. In order to evaluate the vibration and noise reduction performance of ERS, a non-ballast plate girder bridge with 5m length of sleepers installed and a plate girder bridge with ERS were fabricated. And, then, the vibration response generated under the same excitation condition was measured and analyzed. Also, the radiated noise analysis was performed using the vibration response data obtained from the experiment as the input data of the acoustic analysis model. As a result of experiments and analyses, it was confirmed that the plate girder bridge's vibration using ERS was reduced by 15.0~18.8dB and the average noise was reduced by 7.7dB(A) more than the non-ballast bridge.

  • Since the detection probability is critically dependent on the target strength (TS) in active sonar and on the radiated noise level (RNL) in passive sonar, the acoustic materials for echo reduction (ER) and transmission loss (TL) are widely used for the stealth of underwater targets. In this paper, a measurement system based on the small water tank, for the frequency range of greater than 30 kHz, is developed and verified using reference targets. In order to design the water tank and the geometry of test samples, a program is developed to calculate the arrival time of interfering signals due to the reflection from water tank walls and also due to the diffraction from the edge of the test samples. Considering all the interfering signals, an optimal experimental configuration for water tank and test samples is designed and used throughout the experiment. Next, the signal processing algorithms to estimate ER and TL are developed based on the measured propagation loss reflecting the geometric spreading characteristics of the transducer. Finally, a set of reference targets such as aluminium plate and perfectly reflecting plate are used in a small water tank to verify the developed measurement system.

The EMI problem due to the interlocking of electrical components that causes various safety problems such as fire in electric vehicles is emerging every time. We strive to achieve optimal charging efficiency by combining various technologies and reduce radioactive noise among the EMI noise of a weirless charging control module, one of the important parts of an electric vehicle was designed and tested. In order to analyze the EMI problems occurring in the wireless charging control module, the optimized wireless charging control module by applying the optimization design technology by learning the accumulated test data for critical factors by utilizing the Python-based script function in the Ansys simulation tool. It showed an EMI noise improvement effect of 25 dBu V/m compared to the charge control module. These results not only contribute to the development of a more stable and reliable weirless charging function in electric vehicles, but also increase the usability and efficiency of electric vehicles. This allows electric vehicles to be more usable and efficient, making them an environmentally friendly alternative.

  • In this study, a simulation investigation was conducted on the method of reducing switching noise and spurious emission among design methods for step-down DC-DC converter modules for automotive. A typical 4-layer converter circuit using a PMIC(Power Management Integrated Circuit) chip was presented, and the simulation results of conductive emissions at two input terminals (+, -) and the point between the input filter and the PMIC was performed in the 1.0~5.0MHz band and the 100MHz band. The results for the conducted and radiated emissions in the HF(3~30MHz) and VHF(30-300MHz) bands were presented. It showed an improvement of about 10dB over the bands by routing the output terminal placed on the 3 or 4-layer in the opposite direction to the input terminal. The result of this study is expected to be useful in the design of the DC-DC converter modules in the future because it gives a better improvement compared to the existing methods.

  • In this paper, system optimization design technique of an impulse ground penetrating image radar (GPIR) in time domain is proposed to improve depth resolution of the system. For the purpose, time domain analysis method of key components such as impulse generator and UWB antenna is explained and by simulation, parameters of each component are determined. In particular, by standardizing the impulse signal, spectrum efficiency of a radiated impulse signal is improved and a U-shaped planar dipole antenna for a UWB antenna is developed. By equipping a parabolic metal reflector with the proposed antenna, external noise is prevented and the ability of radiating an input impulse into ground is improved. In addition, to remove ringing effect of the propose antenna which causes serious degradation of the system performance, resistors are loaded at the edge of the antenna and then Tx and Rx UWB antennas are optimized by simulation in time domain. For images of targets buried under the ground migration technique is applied and influence of tough ground surface on distortion of received impulse signals is reduced using technique of noise and signal distortion reduction in time domain and its time resolution is enhanced. To verify the design optimization procedure, a prototype of an GPIR and an artificial test field are made. Measurement results show that the resolution of the system designed is as good as that of a theoretical model.
