The goal of this study is to analyse the effects of financial support by governmental on KERRP (Korea Emission Reduction Registration Project) in the case of descending clock auction. Result shows that about 60% of total reduction (612,000ton) can be achieved at the price of 8,000 Won/ton with the budget amount of 5 billion Won, if the benefit from energy saving by the project is not included. Also 100% of total reduction (1,015,713ton) can be achieved at the price of 4,900Won/ton, if the benefit from energy saving by the project is included. Because most projects get some benefits from the energy saving occurred by project performance, the financial support by government may not be needed. However, this type of support would be meaningful from the aspect of encouraging GHG (Green House Gas) reduction to be prepared for the potential obligation of national GHG reduction from 2013.
This study focuses on one of the most typical energy-intensive industries, the steel industry. The two-fold purpose of the study is to develop a model to assess measures to alleviate sulfur dioxide($SO_2$) emissions from the steel industry and to propose a concrete $SO_2$ emission reduction measure from the steel industry. This study partially employed and modified AIM(Asia-Pacific Integrated Model) developed by Japan National Environmental Research Institute to develop AIM/KOREA SULFUR model for simulation. In the study, a base scenario, which is BAU(Business As Usual) scenario, and mitigation scenarios(a use of low-sulfur contain fuel, fuel conversion to cleaner energy, an induction of desulfurization systems, and energy saving) were employed. The results of the simulation are summarized below: The sulphur dioxide emission from the steel industry in 1992 was estimated to be 252,000 metric tons; however, according to BAU scenario, sulphur dioxide emission is expected to be increased to 586,000 metric tons, which is 2.3 times greater than that in 1992 by year 2020. To alleviate such increasement, simulation results under various 7scenarios proved that some degrees of reduction may be possible by an induction of desulfurization systems although there may be numerous ways to interpretate the simulation results; however, the bottom line is that it appears to be difficult to achieve the Korean Ministry of Environment's policy goal-a mitigation of sulphur dioxide concentration to 0.01ppm.

A study on the electrochemical reduction of uranium (VI) to uranium (IV) was carried out in the mixed phases of an organic phase with uranium (VI) and aqueous phase of nitric acid by use of a highly packed glassy carbon (GC) fiber column electrode system, and a model for in-situ electrolytic stripping of uranium (VI) was suggested. The electrochemical reduction of uranium (VI) occurred faster in organic phase than in aqueous phase of the mixed phases. The uranium stripping yield increased and then became constant with the increase of organic flow rate of the electrolytic system due to the increase of diffusion resistance of uranium ions in the organic phase into the aqueous phase. Aqueous flow rate, on the other hand, didn't affect the total uranium (VI) reduction current in the system. The system combined with electrochemical reduction was confirmed to be much more effective than the simple system without it in stripping uranium.

Today the energy consumption of ICT networks is about 10% of the worldwide power consumption and will be remarkably increased in the near future. For that reason, the energy saving topics of ICT networks are actually studying in various research institutes. This paper studies the possible energy saving methods assuring the QoS of networks on network level. This paper assumed the energy consumption models according to energy profiles of node and link in IP networks. Especially it formulates the energy problem of a minimum energy consumption with various energy profile models and suggests the methods of energy-aware QoS routing under energy saving and network QoS sustaining condition. It shows the large difference of energy saving according to energy profiles and the possibility of energy saving by using the appropriate energy profile model in the simulation experiment. This paper shows that min_used_path(MP) heuristic of energy-aware QoS routing is the excellent method compared with other heuristic methods as view of reduction ratio of nodes and links and energy saving effect under network QoS sustaining condition. As a result, this paper confirms that the min_used_path(MP) heuristic of energy-aware QoS routing can get energy saving and sustaining of network QoS in IP networks.

This study reports on the dissolution behavior of SrO in LiCl at varying SrO concentrations from low concentrations to excess. The amount of SrO dissolved in the molten salt and the species present upon cooling were determined. The thermal behavior of LiCl containing various concentrations of SrO was investigated. The experimental results were compared with results from the simulated results using the HSC Chemistry software package. Although the reaction of SrO with LiCl in the standard state at 650 ℃ has a slightly positive Gibbs free energy, SrO was found to be highly soluble in LiCl. Experimentally determined SrO concentrations were found to be considerably higher than those present in used nuclear fuel (<2 g/kg). As Sr-90 is one of the most important heat-generating nuclides in used nuclear fuel, this finding will be impactful in the development of fast, simple, and proliferation-resistant heat reduction processes for used nuclear fuel without the need for separating nuclear materials. Heat reduction is important as it decreases both the volume necessary for final disposal and the worker handling risk.

According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), many countries around the world have been concerned with reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Reducing the level of building energy consumption is particularly important in bringing GHG down. Because of this, many countries including the US and the EU are enforcing energy-related policies. However, these policies are focused on management of single types of buildings such as public buildings and office buildings, instead of management on a national level. Thus, although various policies have been enforced in many countries, $CO_2$ management on a national level is still not an area of focus. Therefore, this study proposed a community-based $CO_2$ management process that allows government-led GHG management. The minimum unit of the community in this study is a plot, and the process consists of three steps. First, the current condition of the GHG emission was identified by plot. Second, based on the identified results, the GHG emission reduction target was distributed per plot by reflecting the weighted value according to (i) the target $CO_2$ reduction in the buildings in the standard year, (ii) region, and (iii) building usage and size. Finally, to achieve the allocated target reduction, building energy management was executed according to the properties of the building located on each plot. It can be expected that the proposed community-based $CO_2$ management process will enable government-level GHG management, through which environment-friendly building construction can be promoted.

This paper presents a feasibility study of a fresh air load reduction system by using an underground double floor space The system was introduced into a real building and was examined by the field measurement Judging from the measurements during three years(1999~2001), the state of the system operation was very stable through this period and it was clear that the system contributes to reduction of energy consumption for air-conditioning. Futhermore, a simulation model used the simple heat diffusion equation Was developed to simulate its thermal characteristics and performances The simulations resulted m air temperature in good agreement with the measurements. Also, from the result of numerical analysis, It is clear that the amount of heat supply by using this system is more than the amount of energy loss to the room above it. Therefore, it is concluded that this systems is very useful and the proposed numerical model can be used for the prediction of system thermal performance.

It is known that lubrication effect of an air cavity can reduced a drag of a ship. The present study intends to utilize the phenomena for the drag reduction of a passenger ship now operating in a lake. A scaled model of the model when air cavities are formed under the bottom of the model. Model experiments have been performed to determine adequate air supply rates, proper shapes and locations of air supply nozzles. It is shown that energy saving of mere than 10% can be achieved at the design speed of the ship even after excluding additional power consumed for air supplying. Multiple air supply nozzles, if allocated properly, are more effective than single one in resistance reduction of the ship.
