  • PURPOSES : This study was conducted to derive the optimum mixing ratio of phosphorescent pigment for the development of phosphorescent line marking. METHODS: In this study, we utilized a literature review and case study methodology, to describe the domestic and foreign state of practice for the production and mixing of phosphorescent pigment for use in line marking. The optimal mixing ratio was derived by comparing the reduction in luminance over time for the various phosphorescent pigment mixing ratios identified in the literature. In addition, performance and construction characteristics were analyzed using field testing techniques. RESULTS : The results were as follows: 1) the results of the luminance performance standards tests showed that all of the phosphorescence test specimens satisfied the phosphorescent fire protection standard. As the phosphorescent pigment mixing ratio increased, the luminance value increased, 2) the luminance reduction rate was minimum at the mixing ratio of 50%. However, when compared to a mixing ratio 40%, a small difference was recorded, the luminance reduction rate from the mixing ratio of 40% is judged as being converged. Therefore, in view of the economic efficiency, it was determined that the optimal mixing ratio was 40%, 3) as a result of construction on the field, a mixing ratio of 40% was found to have a higher luminance value than the general line marking for up to three hours after sunset, 4) it was found that the phosphorescent line markings without glass beads spraying had a higher luminance value than the phosphorescent line markings with glass beads spraying. CONCLUSIONS : Through the results of the basic experiments of the line markings obtained by blending a phosphorescent pigment, the results could be applied to play an important role in the development of phosphorescent line marking paint technology and in establishing application planning for on-site construction characteristics.

  • Background: Inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) is the most common, painful, and anxiety-provoking procedure involving needle insertion for anesthetic solution deposition. DentalVibeⓇ (DV) delivers vibration at a sustained frequency as a counter-stimulation to the site of injection, thereby alleviating pain. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of DV and lignocaine hydrochloride 2% gel (Lox 2% jelly) in pain reduction during IANB in children. Methods: A split-mouth randomized clinical trial was designed with a sample of 60 children (age, 6 to 12 years) requiring bilateral IANB for various dental procedures; DV was used while administering IANB and Lox 2% jelly was used as the topical anesthetic before administering IANB at subsequent appointments. During both appointments, pain perception was measured using the sound, eye, motor (SEM) scale and Wong-Baker faces pain rating scale (WBFPRS); oxygen saturation (SpO2) and pulse rate were measured using a pulse oximeter before, during, and after the IANB procedure. The obtained values were tabulated and subjected to statistical analysis. Wilcoxon test was used for intergroup comparison, and Friedman test, for intragroup comparison of measured variables at different treatment phases. Results: The medians and interquartile ranges of the WBFPRS scores recorded during the IANB procedure for DV and Lox 2% jelly were 2 (2-4) and 2 (0-2), respectively (P < 0.05). The SEM scale scores, mean SpO2, and pulse rate did not show any significant differences during the IANB procedure between both treatments. Conclusion: Both DV and Lox 2% jelly were found to be effective in pain reduction during IANB in children.

  • In this study, we investigated the evolution and reduction of the surface roughness during the high-speed chemical dry thinning process of Si wafers. The direct injection of NO gas into the reactor during the supply of F radicals from NF3 remote plasmas was very effective in increasing the Si thinning rate, due to the NO-induced enhancement of the surface reaction, but resulted in the significant roughening of the thinned Si surface. However, the direct addition of Ar and N2 gas, together with NO gas, decreased the root mean square (RMS) surface roughness of the thinned Si wafer significantly. The process regime for the increasing of the thinning rate and concomitant reduction of the surface roughness was extended at higher Ar gas flow rates. In this way, Si wafer thinning rate as high as $20\;{\mu}m/min$ and very smooth surface roughness was obtained and the mechanical damage of silicon wafer was effectively removed. We also measured die fracture strength of thinned Si wafer in order to understand the effect of chemical dry thinning on removal of mechanical damage generated during mechanical grinding. The die fracture strength of the thinned Si wafers was measured using 3-point bending test and compared. The results indicated that chemical dry thinning with reduced surface roughness and removal of mechanical damage increased the die fracture strength of the thinned Si wafer.

  • This paper presents some experimental investigations on the effectiveness of the Stern-End-Bulb(SEB) and the design procedure of the optimum one. Experimental method was discussed to search the optimum SEB and the resistance reduction rate was investigated from the resistance test results of the SEB series for a passenger boat and a container ship. The contribution of SEB on the propulsive coefficients was discussed from the self-propulsion test results for a container ship. It would be expected that the power saving rate is about 5.8 percents for a passenger boat and 3.6 percents for a container ship by optimum SEB, respectively.

  • Numerical simulations were carried out to analyze the flow characteristics of the wind tunnel. Flow field characteristics with velocity uniformity at the test sections are largely affected by inlet conditions of air flow rate and temperature. Axial average velocity of the flow field inside the test area was almost linearly decreased by 0.026% each 1m. The uniformity distributions of axial velocity showed the highest reduction rate of about 24% between nozzle outlets 1 ~ 2m. In addition, average velocity and the uniformity are increased with air temperature in the wind tunnel due to density variation. The results of this paper are expected to be useful for the basic design of wind tunnel and to be used for efficient design.

  • High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) enables significantly improved compression performance relative to existing standards. However, the advance also requires high computational complexity. To accelerate the intra prediction mode decision, a minimum risk Bayesian classification framework is introduced. The classifier selects a small number of candidate modes to be evaluated by a rate-distortion optimization process using the sum of absolute Hadamard transformed difference (SATD). Moreover, the proposed method provides a loss factor that is a good trade-off model between computational complexity and coding efficiency. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a 31.54% average reduction in the encoding run time with a negligible coding loss of 0.93% BD-rate relative to HEVC test model 16.6 for the Intra_Main common test condition.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the cold reduction rate and an ultrasonic fatigue test (UFT) on the fatigue behaviors of STS 304L. The tensile strength, yield strength, hardness value and fatigue limit in the UFT fatigue test linearly increased as thickness decreased from 1.5 mm to 1.1 mm, as the cold reduction rate of STS 304L increased. As a result of the UFT fatigue test (R = -1) of four specimens, the fatigue limit of the S-N curve formed a knee point in the region of $10^6$, and the 2nd fatigue limit caused by giga cycle fatigue did not appeared. In the case of t = 1.1 mm, the highest fatigue limit was 345 MPa, which was 64.3% higher than the original material (t = 1.5 mm). As a result of the UFT fatigue test of STS 304L, many small surface cracks occurred, grown, coalesced while tearing.

  • The atomic fuel rods between top and bottom end pieces of reactor need to be extended for high combustion rate of future-type fuel to increase the irradiation in the axial direction. For allowing axial extension of the fuel rods, the space between top and bottom end pieces should be expanded. Thus the thickness reduction of the flow plate is necessary. This study was carried out the mechanical strength test by using strain gages as a function of flow plate thickness, the existence of skirt and loading condition for the Korean Fuel Assembly(KOFA). The experimental apparatus was designed for load conditions, uniformly distributed load and displacement. Test method using whiffle tree of uniformly distributed load has been comparatively conservative. The test results were compared with those of finite element analysis and the test method on bottom end piece was established.

  • Reduction of a ship's rolling is the most important performance requirement for improving the safety of the crew on board and preventing damage to cargos as well as improving the comfort of the ride. A mass driving anti-rolling system (MD-ARS) might be one candidate of several systems against the ship's rolling. In this paper, a sea-trial test on a pendulum-type MD-ARS passively operated is carried out in Suyoung, Busan. After the system is installed on the cabin of the small leisure boat, a series of test is conducted before and after operating the system. Through the test, it is confirmed that the roll rate of the ship is pretty well reduced by the system.
