  • The carbon tax is one of several measures to reduce the green-house gases emitted from burning the fossil fuels, which has been much discussed internationally. The analyses of the effects of a carbon tax on individual countries have been carried out by applying the computable general equilibrium(CGE) models, especially models with the assumption of non-existence of scale economies. However, the introduction of scale economies to CGE models changes the simulation results drastically. In this paper, two CGE models are used to compute and compare the economic and $CO_2$ reduction effects of a carbon tax, one of with is the model with scale economies and the other is without scale economies. One of main results is that the analysis using the CGE model without scale economies may underestimate the effects of a carbon tax on GDP and reducing the emission of $CO_2$.

  • The gas-solid reactor, such as rotary kiln, sintering bed, incinerator and CFB boiler, is the one of most widely used industrial reactors for contacting gases and solids. the gas-solid reactor are mainly used for drying, calcining and reducing solid materials. In the gas-solid reactor, heat is supplied to the outside of the wall or inside of the reactor. The heat transfer in gas-solid reactor encompasses all the modes of transport mechanisms, that is, conduction, convection and radiation. The chemical reactions occurring in the bed are driven by energy supplied by the heat transfer. This paper deal with the effect of heat transfer and chemical reaction in the gas-solid reactor.

  • WASP which is used to plan generation expansion has disadvantages that can't manage environmental factors and regional supply-demand planning. But with the effectuation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Kyoto Protocol, it is expected that reducing greenhouse gases affects power system in its long-term generation expansion planning. Therefore national countermeasures is needed. This paper formulates a mathematical model considering CO2 emission constraints and Emission Trading that will be enforced. This model is based on the ORIRES which was made by ESI, Russia and manages generation expansion planning. And this mathematical model is verified by studying a case system.

  • Today it becomes a serious problem to exhaustion of a fossil fuel and air pollution by exhaust gases from road vehicles for environment preservation. To solve this problem, the developments of a hybrid vehicle have been processed for the purpose of reducing pollution and energy-savings. By the way, flywheel hybrid vehicle using variable pump/motor was proposed as one feasible hybrid system in place of hybrid vehicle system by the conventional storage battery. The proposed flywheel hybrid vehicle is composed of an accumulator or a flywheel as the energy generation and storage source and three variable hydraulic pump/motor as the energy transfer device. Flywheel has the characteristic of high...

  • As recognized by all scientific and industrial groups, carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) capture and sequestration (CCS) could play an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This paper is aimed at identifying evolving technological trends from the objective information of patents related to carbon capture technology by solvent. In this study the patents applied in korea, japan, china, canada, US, EU from 1993 to 2013 were analyzed. The result of patent analysis could be used for R&D and policy making of domestic CCS industry.

  • The results from a study on the combustion of the ferrosilicon-miniun delay powder which was examined under the various conditions are as follows. 1. It has been found that in case of these delay powders, decomposition of oxidiging agents occurs first and then reducing agents are oxidized by the gases evolved from the oxidizing agents and by the oxygen in air. Therefore, the main reactions are heterogenous reaction and especially He gas phase plays an important role in combustion reactions of delay Powders. 2. In case the loading pressure is below 100kg per a detonator, the dispresion of burning time is large. 3. Little or no increase in humidity was observed on daily measurement during six month preservation tests. 4. The amperage of electric current for igniting the fuse head has no effect on the burning time of delay conposition itself changed in the detonator.

  • Doronicum Hookeri of family Asteraceae is an important medicinal drug distributed in Himalayas at Lachen and Tungu, Sikkim, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet between 12,000 to 14,000 ft. Its roots are widely used as folk medicine and are commonly known as "Darunaj-aqrabi" in Unani and as "Leopard's bane" in English. Roots are traditionally used as a constituent of, act as a stomachic and dissolves trapped gases. Antibacterial and antifungal activities of D. hookeri roots have been previously reported. The methanolic extract of root part possessed higher phenolic content and thus higher free radical scavenging and reducing activities. The methanolic extract of this plant showed scavenging and antioxidant activities in DPPH (2,2- diphenyl-1-picryhydrazy) radical scavenging assay.

  • Mankind has just begun to recognize that the most crucial factor to achieve the sustainable society in the future is green technology. Most countries support the development of green technology to prevent catastrophes from global warming, mainly in the areas of reducing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. However, most products we consume in everyday life are produced through chemical processes, and we often oversee the fact that the huge amount of waste and energy during these chemical processes will seriously influence our goal to achieve our future society sustainable. Thus the technologies to minimize the amount of disposed waste and energy consumption during chemical processes may be more important than to reduce the greenhouse gases. In this regard this review introduces the recent status of green chemistry and future prospects in order to help our chemists and engineers establish research projects based on the green chemistry principles.

  • In the present work the adhesion failure of a hot-dip galvanized coating has been studied as a function gas composition temperature of strip and of atmospheric gas in furnace. The adhesion failure of the hot-dip galvani-zed coating is classified as three mechanisms : carbon deposition, oxide film formation and alloy layer formation. The adhesion failure due to oxide film formation decreased markedly by increasing the gases temperature of direct fired furnace(DFF) in order to improve the reducing ability of steel strip. Optimum conditions of operating and manufacturing facilities for improving the coating adherence are suggested by analyzing the interface between steel substrate and coating layer.

  • Large dynamic loads act on the rotor in rotary compressors. There are unbalance forces due to eccentric rotation parts and gas forces induced by the difference in pressure between compression and suction gases6 Rotor-journal bearing system is nonlinear since the stiffness and damping coefficients of the lubricating oil film are not constant in the bearings. In this paper, the program for predicting the behaviors of rotor-journal bearing system of rotary compressor is developed. Finite element modeling is used to analyze the flexible rotor. The numerical results are compared with experimental results. The location of balancer weight are suggested for reducing rotor whiring displacement.
