  • We have developed red phosphorescent top emission organic light-emitting diodes with transparent metal cathodes deposited by using thermal evaporation technique. Phosphorescent guest molecule, BtpIr(acac), was doped in host CBP for the red phosphorescent emission, Ca/Ag, Ba/Ag, and Mg/Ag double layers were used as cathode materials of top emission devices, which were composed of glass/Ni/2TNATA(15 nm)/${\alpha}$-NPD(35 nm)/CBP:BtpIr(acac)(40 nm, 10%)/BCP(5 nm)/$Alq_3$(5 nm)/cathodes. The optical transparencies of these metal cathodes strongly depend on underlying Ca, Ba, and Mg layers. These layers also strongly affect the electrical conduction and emission properties of the red phosphorescent top emission devices.

  • We studied the emission characteristics of white phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PHOLEDs), which were fabricated using a two-wavelength method. To optimize emission characteristics of white PHOLEDs, white PHOLEDs with red/blue, blue/red and red/blue/red emitting layer (EML) structures were fabricated using a host-dopant system. In case of white PHOLEDs with red/blue structure, the best efficiency was obtained at a structure of red (15 nm)/blue (15 nm). But the emission color was blue-shifted white. In case of white PHOLEDs with blue/red structure, the better color purity and efficiency were observed at a blue (29 nm)/red (1 nm) structure. For additional improvement of color purity in white PHOLEDs with blue (29 nm)/red (1 nm) EMLs, we fabricated white PHOLEDs with red (1 nm)/blue (28 nm)/red (1 nm) structure. The current efficiency, external quantum efficiency, and CIE (x, y) coordinate were 27.2 cd/A, 15.1%, and (0.382, 0.369) at 1,000 $cd/m^2$, respectively.

  • This study uses neon and xenon gas mixture discharges to determine the effects of the neon plasma emission on the characteristics of visible emission from the stimulation of the red, green, blue(RGB) phosphor layers in a surface-type alternate current plasma display panel(AC PDP). With a mixture of less than 2% xenon to neon, it is found that the luminance changes in the visible emission of the phosphor layers are similar to those of the neon plasma emission. In the range of xenon mix ratio from 2 to 5%, the luminance of the red, green, blue(RGB) phosphor layers decreases with a decrease in the neon plasma emission intensity. However, with a mixture of above 5% xenon to neon, the luminance of the red, green, blue(RGB) phosphor layers increases regardless of a decrease in the neon plasma emission intensity. Furthermore, the color purity of the red, green, blue(RGB) phosphor layers improve as the neon plasma emission intensity decreases. Accordingly, it is concluded that the optical properties of the phosphor layers, including color purity and luminance, depend on the neon plasma discharge emission as well as the visible emission from the stimulation of the phosphor layers.

  • Improvement of plant growth by Methylotrophic bacteria can be influenced through alterations in growth modulating enzymes or hormones, especially by decreasing ethylene levels enzymatically by 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase or by production of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). In this study, the effect of seven strains of Methylobacterium on seedling ethylene emission of tomato and red pepper plants was evaluated under greenhouse condition. Ethylene emission was lowest in Methylobacterium oryzae CBMB20 inoculated tomato plants and CBMB110 inoculated red pepper plants at 47 days after sowing (DAS). However, at 58 DAS all inoculated plants showed almost similar pattern of ethylene emission. Methylobacterium inoculated tomato and red pepper plants showed significantly less ethylene emission compared to control. Our results demonstrated that Methylobacterium spp. inoculation promotes plant growth due to the reduction of ethylene emission and therefore can be potentially used in sustainable agriculture production systems.

  • Using an open-circuit system, we compared the methane ($CH_4$) emission from dry cows fed first-cut Timothy silage ($1^{st}$ TY), second-cut Timothy silage ($2^{nd}$ TY), second-cut Italian ryegrass silage ($2^{nd}$ IR), third-cut Italian ryegrass silage ($3^{rd}$ IR), or second-cut red clover silage ($2^{nd}$ RC) as the sole feed. The methane emission ranged from 258.2 L $day^{-1}$ to 396.5 L $day^{-1}$. The methane emission from dry cows fed red clover silage was relatively lower than that from dry cows fed grass silage. However, the methane emission per unit digestible neutral detergent fiber (NDF) intake (dNDFI) did not differ significantly between the experimental silages. The methane emission was significantly correlated with the NDF intake and digestibility. Methane emission had a significant correlation with the quadratic function of dNDFI. The differences in the daily volume of methane emission from cows fed different forages can be explained by dNDFI.

  • In this study, we have investigated transient properties of top emission organic light emitting diode (OLED) with a red electrophosphorescent dopant. The emission spectrum shows a strong peak at 620 nm accompanied with a small peak at 675 nm in the red region. Time evolution of electrophosphorescence reveals a decay time of 703 ms at a voltage pulse of 5 V in a device with an emitting area of 20 $mm^2$. Rise and delay times vary from 450 to 14 ms and 73 to 3 ms, respectively, as the voltage amplitude increases from 4.5 to 10 V. These results are compared with the red emitting device without an electron injection layer.

  • For the full color organic electro-luminescent device, essentially, red, green, and blue emissions are required. But red emission is not to reach minimum level of practical use 31[lm/W]. In order to optimize color purity and power consumption requirements, it is important for the materials development efforts to search for improvements in red emission effisiency. In this study, the bis(8-oxyquinolino)zinc II ($Znq_2$) were synthesized successfully from zinc chloride($ZnCl_2$) as a initial material. Then, we fabricated red organic electroluminescent device with a dye(DCJTB)-doped and inserted $Znq_2$ between emission layer and cathode layer for increasing EL efficiency. The hole transfer layer is a N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis-(3-methyl phenyl) -1,1'-diphenyl-4.4'-diamine(TPD), and the host material of emission layer is $Znq_2$. For the inserting of $Znq_2$, efficiency increased.

  • Among the environmental conditions employed in micropropagation, light quality plays an important role in growth, specially morphogenesis and photosynthesis. The effect of radiation quality (350-740 nm) on the development and growth of zygotic embryos and in vitro plantlets of open-pollinated chestnut (Castanea crenata S. et Z.) were studied. Two types of explants were exposed for 4 weeks to cool white (W, as control), monochromatic red (R, peak emission 650 nm), monochromatic blue (B, peak emission 440 nm), red+blue (R+B, 1:1), or red+far-red (R+Fr, 1:1, far-red peak emission 720 nm) radiation from a light-emitting-diode (LED) system. While the zygotic embryos showed positive photoblastic behavior, their germination was inhibited by blue radiation. Hypocotyl elongation and root development were promoted by red radiation. The emergence of primary leaf and its expansion were faster under blue than under red radiation. In the plantlets, red and red+far-red radiation significantly increased the formation and growth of the root, whereas blue light reduced rooting. Therefore, radiation quality appears to influence some steps in the development of zygotic embryos and plantlets in the chestnut.

  • $BaMgP_2O_7$:Eu,Mn phosphors for white emission were synthesized and their luminescent properties were investigated under UV excitation. The phosphor emits two colors: a blue band by $Eu^{2+}$ and a red band by $Mn^{2+}$. Due to the efficient energy transfer from $Eu^{2+}$ to $Mn^{2+}$, the red emission positioned at 615 nm is greatly enhanced with increasing $Mn^{2+}$ content up to 17.5 mol%.

  • The effect of $Y^{3+}$ addition to $SrTiO_3:Pr^{3+}$ on the photoluminescence and cathodoluminescence was studied. We discovered that light emitting levels of $Pr^{3+}$ vary by addition of $Y^{3+}$. In $(Sr_{1-x}Y_x)TiO_3:Pr^{3+}$, both the green and red emission are discovered while the red emission prevails in $Sr(Ti_{1-x}Y_x)O_3:Pr^{3+}$ . $Sr(Ti_{1-x}Y_x)O_3:Pr^{3+}$ shows enhancement of red emission by two kinds of enhancement process.
