Hydrocarbon Synthesis of Waste Lignocellulosics by Liquefaction Reaction of Thermochemical Deoxyhdrogenolysis Method (II) (목질폐재(木質廢材)의 열(熱)-화학적(化學的) 탈(脫)산소-수소첨가반응(환원반응)에 의한 액화(液化)탄화수소의 합성 (II))

  • Lignocellulosic biomass including acetosolv ricestraw and spruce lignin were liquefied and converted into liquid hydrocarbons by catalytic hydroliquefaction reaction. These experimental works were carried out in 1-liter-capacity autoclave using 50% tetralin and m-cresol solution respectively as soluble solvent and Ni. Pd. Fe and red mud as catalyst. $H_2$ gas was supplied into the reactor for escaltion of deoxhydroenolysis reaction. Catalyst concentrations were 1 % of raw material based on weight. The ratio between raw materials and soluble solvent are 1g and 10cc. The reaction conditions are 400-$700^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature, 10-50 atms of reaction pressure. The highest yield of hydrocarbon, so called "product oil" showed 32% and 5.5% of lowest char formation when red mud was used as catalyst. The product oil yields from those of other catalysts were in the range of 20-29%. The influence of different initial hydrogen pressures was examined in the range d 30-50 atms. A minimum pressure of 35 atms was necessary to obtain a complete recovery of souble solvent for recycling.

  • Recently, the development of the paved track is required as a low-maintenance of conventional line. The main reason is that the line capacity and bearing of track are increased progressively. The important factors of paved track are stability and applicability. To be based on this subject, cement mortar pouring type paved track is developed. The paved track is a kind of concrete track using the prepacked concrete technique. The most important thing to design the paved track is to optimize the track structure and materials considering various conditions. Until now, the paved track is verified a various material and structure test. In this paper, it is introduce to the test construction at the urban subway main line. The test construction is completed at Dec. 2007. A major object and substance is a guarantee of construction progress on main line, track performance, construction technique for curved section, transition zone and winter season, recycling the used ballast and application of specific sleeper for sharp curved section.

Engineering Properties of High Strength Concrete Using Lime Stone Recycling Fine Aggregate (석회암 순환잔골재를 사용한 고강도 콘크리트의 공학적 특성)

  • This study investigates the engineering properties of concrete incorporating lime stone crushed fine aggregate(Ls), which has been abandoned about 20% of total production due to the low purity. Test results showed that increase of Ls had favorable fluidity and slightly decreased air content. Bleeding capacity of all specimens was not appeared as those were high strength mixture proportion, but the specimens using more Ls accelerated initial and final setting. For the mechanical properties, specimens incorporating higher ratio of Ls, overall, resulted in increase of compressive strength, and exhibited very small inclined tendency in a dynamic elasticity modulus test In addition, for the durability properties, specimens incorporating higher Ls dramatically decreased a drying shrinkage and showed similar tendency in a frost & thaw test, as well as showing no more change in an accelerated neutralization test from the beginning. In conclusion, as it was confirmed in the experimental test, the high strength concrete applying Ls did not showed any problems in the aspects of engineering properties and mostly exhibited even more excellent quality than the specimens using natural fine aggregate.

  • In this study, there is purpose that is on a concrete defect happen from aggregate minute's particle mixing in process that make waste concrete as recyclable cement puts to practical use constructing basic data for design of mix proportion used recyclable cement and solves strength fall problem using micron separator, and does general recyclable cement high quality. As a result of X-ray diffraction(XRD) of rater HR-C than NR-C is aware that it come out the micron-separating to decrease the $SiO_2$-peak below 50%. And a construction field which apply for strength's $24{\sim}28MPa$ HR-C in order to realize NR-C of 44% and 51%. Recycle concrete capacity through improved recycle cement of manufacturing technique by micron-separating's new distribution more better improvement. Therefore, in this study, it need to more various study a recycle cement of high quality for reasonable and utility recycling than disposal concrete.

A Study Properties of concrete Recycling Cockle Shells as Fine Aggregate (고막 패각의 콘크리트 잔골재로 재활용 방안에 관한 연구)

  • 1) As a result of compressive strength experiment, rupture compressive strength showed more increases in specimens of 15% and 20% of Cockle shells in those of non-mixture. Comparing compressive strength between no-mixed Specimens and Specimens of containing Cockle shells, Specimens containing Cockle shells showed higher strength in 60 days and 90 days of age, and as ark Cockle is contained and age is elapsed, compressive strength is also increased In addition, estimation of compressive strength by reactive hardness in concrete using Cockle shells as aggregate shows low reliability. 2) As a result of experimenting compressive strength after heating, Specimens containing Cockle shells and non-mixed Specimens showed similar strength at $200^{\circ}C$, but compressive strength was lowered as content of Cockle shells increased at over $400^{\circ}C$ and heating temperature was higher. It is because Cockle shells was fired by heat and then its adhesion and bonding capacity were lost. 3) To sum up the above experimental results, it is found that using splitted Cockle shells as aggregate for concrete by 10%~20% showed the same or higher compressive strength and shear strength as concretes using general aggregate and it can be used as substitute aggregate of concrete. It is considered that for future use of splitted Cockle shells as substitute concrete aggregate, continuous researches of its durability, applicability and economy are needed.

Adsorption Treatment Characteristics of Cadmium Ion Containing Wastewater Using Waste Tire as an Adsorbent (폐타이어를 흡착제로 한 카드뮴 함유 폐수 처리 특성)

  • Adsorption features of $Cd^{2+}$ on waste tire particles have been investigated for the purpose of enhanced wastes recycling along with the development of an economic process for wastewater treatment. The isoelectric point of waste tire particles was found to be ca. pH 7 and the adsorbed amount of $Cd^{2+}$ was increased with pH under experimental conditions. The variation of the adsorption behavior of $Cd^{2+}$ with pH was well explained by the change of the electrokinetic potential of waste tire particles according to the pH. Adsorption of $Cd^{2+}$ was observed to reach its equilibrium within 45 minutes after the adsorption started under experimental conditions and followed the Freundlich model well. Kinetic analysis showed that the adsorption reaction of $Cd^{2+}$ was second order and thermodynamic estimation substantiated the endothermic behavior of $Cd^{2+}$ adsorption. As the amount of adsorbent increased, more adsorption of $Cd^{2+}$ was accomplished and the adsorption capacity of adsorbent was found to be enhanced by its pre-treatment with NaOH. Also, the adsorption of adsorbate was promoted as the ionic strength of wastewater was increased.

  • Activated carbon is proposed as a new application of wastepaper recycling other than the paper-making. Waste kraft bag is considered to be a suitable raw material for activated carbon because of its low ash content. Small pellets of wastepaper squeezed out from the continuous kneader were carbonized in a nitrogen atmosphere and activated using carbon dioxide. The BET specific surface areas of activated carbon prepared from waste kraft bag was $1,285m^{2}/g$, which is higher than commercially available activated carbons. The activated carbon prepared from wastepaper has a well-developed porous structure, particularly in mesopore and macropore ranges. As a result, activated carbon with iodine adsorption capacity of 1,400 mg/g was obtained from waste kraft bag. In this paper, adsorption amount of Bisphenol A (BPA) was determined to investigate adsorbability of activated carbon from waste kraft bag. Adsorption measurements were on solutions ranging from $0.1{mu}g/L\;to\;100mg/L$. The activated carbon from waste kraft bag gave higher BPA adsorbabilities over a wide range, compared with commercially available activated carbons.

PLUTONIUM MANAGEMENT OPTIONS: LIABILITY OR RESOURCE

  • Since plutonium accounts for 40-50% of the power produced by uranium fuels, spent fuel contains only residual plutonium. Management of this plutonium is one of the aspects influencing the choice of a fuel cycle back-end option: reprocessing, direct disposal or wait-and-see. Different grades and qualities of plutonium exist depending from their specific generation conditions; all are valuable fissile material. Safeguard authorities watch the inventories of civil plutonium, but access to those data is restricted. Independent evaluations have led to an estimated current inventory of 220t plutonium in total (spent fuel, separated civil plutonium and military plutonium). If used as MOX fuel, it would be sufficient to feed all the PWRs and BWRs worldwide during 7 years or to deploy a FBR park corresponding to 150% of today' s installed nuclear capacity worldwide, which could then be exploited for centuries with the current stockpile of depleted and spent uranium. The energy potential of plutonium deteriorates with storage time of spent fuel and of separated plutonium, due to the decay of $^{241}Pu$, the best fissile isotope, into americium, a neutron absorber. The loss of fissile value of plutonium is more pronounced for usage in LWRs than in FBR. However, keeping the current plutonium inventory for an expected future deployment of FBRs is counterproductive. Recycling plutonium reduce the required volume for final disposal in an underground repository and the cost of final disposal. However, the benefits of utilizing an energy resource and of reducing final disposal liabilities are not the only aspects that determine the choice of a back-end policy.

Evaluation of radiological safety according to accident scenarios for commercialization of spent resin mixture treatment device

  • Spent resin often exceeds radiation limits for safe disposal, creating a need for commercial-scale treatment techniques to reduce resin radioactivity. In this study, the radiological safety of a commercialized spent resin treatment device with a treatment capacity of 1 ton/day was evaluated. The results confirm that the device is radiologically safe in the event of an accident. This device desorbs 14C from the spent resin, allowing disposal as low-level waste instead of intermediate-level waste. The device also reduces overall waste by recycling the extracted 14C. Potential accident scenarios were explored to enable dose assessments for both internal and external exposure while preventing further spillage of the device and processing the spilled resin. The scenarios involved the development of a surface fracture on the resin mixture separator and microwave systems, which were operated under pressure and temperature of 0-6 bar and 0-150 ℃, respectively. In the case of accidents with separator and microwave device, the maximum allowable working time of worker were derived, respectively, considering external and internal exposures. When wearing the respirator corresponding to APF 50, in the case of the microwave device accident scenario, the radiological safety was confirmed when the maximum worker worked within 132.1 h.

A Study on the Charging and Diagnosis System of xEV Reusable Waste Battery

  • As the supply of xEV in Korea is rapidly increasing, the amount of waste batteries is expected to increase rapidly, but the current recycling system for waste xEV batteries is very insufficient. In order to properly utilize the xEV reusable battery module, it is essential to classify it into a type that has similar discharge characteristics to the current state of health(SOH), which is the discharge capacity of the battery. This paper proposes a system that can minimize the exchange of energy with the KEPCO system by using the charging/discharging method by circulating power between batteries in order to minimize the power consumption when charging and discharging waste batteries. In the proposed system, a function to measure parameters during the charging/discharging test of the waste battery was implemented to build a customized big date for the test waste battery. In addition, the dynamic characteristics of the proposed circuit were analyzed using PSIM, which is useful for power electronics analysis, and the validity of the proposed circuit was verified through experiments.
