  • Environmental Product Life Cycle Management is an activity for defining and describing the product, process of activity environmentally. The activity involves the full life cycle stages of the product; evaluating environmental releases at each stage, determining the aggregate and specific impacts of the releases, developing opportunities to effect environmental improvements. This paper presents a methodological approach for database modeling to build Product Life Cycle Management system and show a set of database modeling. Additionally, a key issue for database is the quality of the provided information.

  • One of the recent hot issues in the manufacturing business is how to incorporate environmental attributes into product and process design. Design for environment considers the potential environmental impact of a product throughout its life-cycle. In the case of something breaks, it can become waste immediately, hence reliability and durability is the essential part of product design. This paper presents reliability technology for sustainable product design to improve the product longevity that extends performance life, serviceability and durability. The presented method will help to develop a sound design and avoid weak links to minimize the waste.

  • Industrial by-products generated by integrated iron and steel manufacture cause environmental pollution. The by-products contain not only iron element but also harmful substances. Therefore, in view of to waste recycling and environmental preservation, production of sponge iron using the by-product is considered an effective recycling method. In this study, reduction efficiency of pellets from blast furnace dust was measured. Metallization was found to be increased, as $C/Fe_{total}$ ratio and reaction time were increased. The pellets were formed into a globular shape, and calcined for 60 minutes at $1100^{\circ}C$ in an electric furnace. Phase changes were analyzed using an X-ray diffractometer. Microstructures of the pellets were observed by a scanning electron microscope.

  • The production accounts of domestic by-product is increased after 1990's. It is worried about the life reduction of dump land, as dump land's capacity have reached to limitation and the amount of construction industrial wastes is going higher. Recently, recycling aggregates could be gained from the reconstruction works using recycle process. And the study and research of recycle concretes developed concrete application methods. It could put some outcome of studies to practical use for concrete products. The methods of crushing waste concrete are going diverse. In this study, the fundamental experiments and recycling application is investigated and analyzed with use of recycling aggregate which made of mechanical crush and underwater electrical impact crush. and the difference between underwater electrical impact crush, mechanical crush and natural aggregates is studied.

  • A scrapped fiber-reinforced plastic(FRP) fishing vessel causes many environmental problems, because technology development for recycling FRP vessel has not been adequately addressed. FRP is a main material for constructing a small coastal fishing vessel that is an object of reduction policy. Therefore, the FRP wastes derived a scrapped fishing vessel are increasing. In this study, I investigated an effective disposal process for FRP through the analysis of the actual conditions of scrapped FRP fishing vessel. The treatment processes of scrapped FRP fishing vessel are carried out with oil-removing, dismantling, intermediated processing(crushing), and then reclaiming follows burning in the final processing in Korea. However, in Japan, several recycling methods have been developed, for example, the incineration including thermal recovery, the use of cement-reclamation, and the use of asphalt concrete aggregate, because the method of reclaiming after incinerating which is generally used in Korea produces a toxic by-product such as dioxin.

  • Waste tires are a significant problem with the increasing in number of automobiles. Therefore, many researches have been studied on this field. Recycling is the one of the popular method aspect to environmental and economical in the treatment methods of the waste tire, which loads that the reuse of scrap tire rubber has been a challenge in the past. However, it is not easy method to melt down and mold into new products because the in rubber is a cross-linked polymer. Most difficulty in recycling is the recycled product is not economic. Therefore, the goal of this study is to develop the high valuable products for reused waste tires. In this paper, we try to make an economic recycled technology using scrapped waste tires. This technology may applied for manufacturing the end products such as a rubber block and a ballast mat for high-speed train.

  • Kobe Steel, LTD. and Midrex Technologies Inc. jointly developed the FASTMET$\circledR$ process as a steel mill waste recycle technology in which the DRI product meets BF feed material or BOF/EAF feed material requirements. FASTMET(R) process turns value-less wastes into valuable DRI and sellable zinc oxide, and gives the solution for the steel mill wastes recycling from both economical and environmental viewpoints. During the development of the process, Laboratory, Pilot Plant and Demonstration Plant tests were carried out from 1990 to 1998. The first FASTMET(R) commercial plant began operation in April, 2000 and the second commercial plant started in April, 2001 Both commercial plants have proceeded successfully preying that FASTMET$\circledR$ is a suitable process for recycling steel mill waste and for producing DRI as an iron source.

  • The production of polyurethane polymer has been increased because of their unique properties and variety process methods available. The generation of their wastes also increases with products. These byproducts of industrialization seriously threaten the environmental demanding. Therefore, development of the recycling technologies have been required. The main propose of this study is to develop the recycling technology of waste polyurethane from a footwear scrap. This technique is composed of the following procedure : crushing, devulcanizing, pelletizing, washing and drying. The pellet was characterized with various methods. The recycled polyurethane(RPU) was blended with HIPS(high impact polystyrene) and investigated morphologically and rheologically. The experimental results showed that the addition of 20% HIPS to RPU was limited without mechanical performance of the superial properties of a virgin polyurethane. We believe that these technical information make possible to develop a rational engineering product.

  • A various methodologies like eco product design, recycling, remanufacturing have been proposed for the increase of resource recirculation and energy saving worldwide. Uni-materialization in this paper, one of measures is presented. Uni-materialization is defined as the unification or simplification of material that is easy resource recycling and reduce waste generation at source during product design, manufacturing, delivery, use and disposal. This study developed calculates the qualitative and quantitative of assessment index for evaluating target products applicable uni-materialization. There are 9 assessment articles considered economic performance, technological property and environmental property and a study on target product applied assessment indexes. As a result it is possible for 3 target products to apply uni-materialization product except for a window blind, and the concrete concept of uni-materialization for improving objectivity of assessment index and the consideration of industrial distinct character are needed.

  • Domestic gold mine tailings, generally, contain a lot of non-metallic silica and clay minerals. These minerals can be separated from the tailings by various physical separation methods and used as raw materials for cements and ceramic products. In these physical separation procedures, metallic complex sulfides, in which Au and metallic constituents such as Pb, As and Fe were concentrated, were obtained as a by-product. These metallic constituents should be removed or separated from the by-product to extract Au efficiently. In this work, removal and separation processes of Pb, As, and Fe from the by-product were investigated. Pb was removed to under 3% by using alkaline oxidative leaching at the leaching condition of $120^{\circ}C$, 2M NaOH, 100psi $Po_2$, 250r.p.m., 4 wt.% solid and 30 min. leaching time. The leached residue was roasted and separated magnetically to obtain a non-magnetic product contained <0.2% As, <3% Fe and high concentrated Au more than 8,000 ppm.
