  • We proposed the RPA (Recursive Partition Averaging) method in order to improve the storage requirement and classification rate of the Memory Based Reasoning. This algorithm recursively partitions the pattern space until each hyperrectangle contains only those patterns of the same class, then it computes the average values of patterns in each hyperrectangle to extract a representative. Also we have used the mutual information between the features and classes as weights for features to improve the classification performance. The proposed algorithm used 30~90% of memory space that is needed in the k-NN (k-Nearest Neighbors) classifier, and showed a comparable classification performance to the k-NN. Also, by reducing the number of stored patterns, it showed an excellent result in terms of classification time when we compare it to the k-NN.

  • This research presents a three-dimensional modeling technique for a flexible sheet. A relative coordinate formulation is used to represent the kinematics of the sheet. The three-dimensional flexible sheet is modeled by multi-rigid bodies interconnected by out-of-plane joints and plate force elements. A parent node is designated as a master body and is connected to the ground by a floating joint to cover the rigid motion of the flexible sheet in space. Since the in-plane deformation of a sheet such as a paper and a film is relatively small, compared to out-of-plane deformation, only the out-of-plane deformation is accounted for in this research. The recursive formulation has been adopted to solve the equations of motion efficiently. An example is presented to show the validity of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents an adaptive feedback based actuator fault detection and tolerant control algorithms for longitudinal functional safety of autonomous driving. In order to ensure the functional safety of autonomous vehicles, fault detection and tolerant control algorithms are needed for sensors and actuators used for autonomous driving. In this study, adaptive feedback control algorithm to compute the longitudinal acceleration for autonomous driving has been developed based on relationship function using states. The relationship function has been designed using feedback gains and error states for adaptation rule design. The coefficients in the relationship function have been estimated using recursive least square with multiple forgetting factors. The MIT rule has been adopted to design the adaptation rule for feedback gains online. The stability analysis has been conducted based on Lyapunov direct method. The longitudinal acceleration computed by adaptive control algorithm has been compared to the actual acceleration for fault detection of actuators used for longitudinal autonomous driving.

  • This paper introduces a new monitoring technique which utilizes an adaptive signal processing for feature generation, coupled with a multilayered merual network for pattern recognition. The cutting force signal in face milling operation was modeled by a low order discrete autoregressive model, shere parameters were estimated recursively at each sampling instant using a parameter adaptation algorithm based on an RLS(recursive least square) method with discounted measurements. The influences of the adaptation algorithm parameters as well as some considerations for modeling on the estimation results are discussed. The sensitivity of the extimated model parameters to the tool state(new and worn tool)is presented, and the application of a multilayered neural network to tool state monitoring using the previously generated features is also demonstrated with a high success rate. The methodology turned out to be quite suitable for in-process tool wear monitoring in the sense that the model parameters are effective as tool state features in milling operation and that the classifier successfully maps the sensors data to correct output decision.

  • We propose the modified neural network which are paralleled to control nonlinear systems. The proposed method is a direct control method to use inverse model of the plant. Nonlinear systems are divided into two parts; linear part and nonlinear part, and it is controlled by RLS method and recursive multi-layer neural network with each other. We simulate to verify the performance of the proposed method and are compared with conventional direct neural network control method. The proposed control method is improved the control performance than the conventional method.

  • In this paper, we show how to design based on solving Sudoku problem that is one of the NP-complete problems like Go. We show how to use greedy method which can minimize depth based on tree expansion and how to apply heuristic algorithm for pruning unnecessary branches. As a result of measuring the performance of the proposed method for solving of Sudoku problems, this method can reduce the number of function call required for solving compared with the method of heuristic algorithm or recursive method, also this method is able to reduce the 46~64 depth rather than simply expanding the tree and is able to pruning unnecessary branches. Therefore, we could see that it can reduce the number of leaf nodes required for the calculation to 6 to 34.

  • In this paper, dielectric, drude model and ideal metamaterial are applied to core of A-Sandwich radome and each radome is analyzed using recursive method in Ku band. The main parameters of radome performance are insertion loss, insertion phase delay and depolarization. In case of ideal metamaterial, the radome using ideal metamaterial dose not generate depolarization because insertion loss, insertion phase delay and loss for incidence angle of wave do not happened. If circular polarization wave is incident on radome with meta material, transmitted wave also keeps circular polarization. In case of the dispersive metamaterial, the performance of radome using dispersive metamaterial is better than it of radome using dielectric in a part of frequency band. From these results, it is showed that metamaterial can be applied to various radome structure.

  • This study proposes an inverse estimation method for the input forces of a fixed beam structural system. The estimator includes the fuzzy Kalman Filter (FKF) technology and the fuzzy weighted recursive least square method (FWRLSM). In the estimation method, the effective estimator are accelerated and weighted by the fuzzy accelerating and weighting factors proposed based on the fuzzy logic inference system. By directly synthesizing the robust filter technology with the estimator, this study presents an efficient robust forgetting zone, which is capable of providing a reasonable trade-off between the tracking capability and the flexibility against noises. The period input of the fixed beam structure system can be effectively estimated by using this method to promote the reliability of the dynamic performance analysis. The simulation results are compared by alternating between the constant and adaptive and fuzzy weighting factors. The results demonstrate that the application of the presented method to the fixed beam structure system is successful.

  • The purpose of image sequence coding is to reduce the spatio-temporal redundancies. For the spatial redundancies, we can use the transform coding such as DCT. In this paper, the optical flow method is applied to solve the problem of temporal redundancies. There are several estimation methods like block matching method and pel-recursive method. Block matching method is easy for a hardware implementation because of the computational simplicity. So, it is now used as the estimation method in MPEG-l, MPEG-2, and H.261. We compared the merits and demerits of the optical flow method and the block matching method in this paper.

  • Adaptive constant false alarm rate(CFAR) algorithm is used for good detection probability as well as constant false alarm rate in clutter background. Especially, filtering technique adaptive to spatial variation is necessary for improving detection quality in non stationary clutter environment which has spatial correlation and large magnitude deviation. In this paper, we propose a two-dimensional block interpolation(TBI) adaptive CFAR algorithm that calculates the node estimate in the fred two dimensional region and subsequently determines the final estimate for each resolution cell by two-dimensional interpolation. The proposed method is efficient for filtering abnormal ejection by adopting distribution median in fixed region and also has advantage of reducing required memory space by using estimation method which gets final values after calculating the block node values. Through simulations, we show that the proposed method is superior to the traditional adaptive CFAR algorithms which are transversal or recursive in aspect of the detection performance and required memory space.
