This study develops a digital control scheme with power factor correction for a front-end converter in an electric vehicle battery charger. The front-end converter acts as the boost-type switching-mode rectifier. The converter assumes the two roles of the battery charger, which include power factor control and robust charging performance. The proposed control scheme consists of a charging control algorithm and a grid current control algorithm. The scheme aims to obtain unity input power factor and robust performance. Based on the linear average model of the converter, a constant-current constant-voltage charging control algorithm that passes through only one proportional-integral controller and a current feed-forward path is proposed. In the current control algorithm, we utilized a second band pass filter, a single-phase phase-locked loop technique, and a duty-ratio feed-forward term to control the grid current to be in phase with the grid voltage and achieve pure sinusoidal waveform. Simulations and experiments were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, both simulations and experiments.

The paper proposes a novel ZVZCS PWM converter. It enables the main switch to be turned on/off with both zero voltage and zero current, the auxiliary switch to be turned on/off with ZCS, the rectifier diode to be turned on/off with ZVS. Moreover, this proposed soft switching technique is suitable for not only minority carrier device but also majority carrier semiconductor device. Since auxiliary resonant circuit of the proposed boost converter is placed out of the main power path, therefore, there are no voltage and current stresses on the main switch and diode. The operation of the proposed boost converter is explained and analyzed theoretical and experimentally, from a prototype operating at 100KHz.
We examined the effects of psoralen derivatives on a rapidly activating delayed rectifier $K^+$ channel (hKv1.5) cloned from human heart and stably expressed in $Ltk^-$ cells. Using the whole cell configuration of the patch-clamp technique, we found that the five psoralen derivatives inhibited hKv1.5 current. Especially, 4-(2-Propenyloxy)-7H-furo[3,2-g][1]benzopyran-7-one (compound 5) was more potent than the inhibition of the hKv1.5 current of psoralen. The compound 5 inhibited the hKv1.5 current in a concentration-, time-, and voltage-dependent manner. These results suggest that the compound 5 is an excellent candidate as an antiarrhythmic drug for atrial fibrillation.
In this paper, a unified control strategy using the current space vector modulation (CSVM) technique is proposed and applied to a bidirectional three-phase DC/AC converter. The operation of the converter changes with the direction of the power flow. In the charging mode, it works as a buck type rectifier; and during the discharging mode, it operates as a boost type inverter, which makes it suitable as an interface between high voltage AC grids and low voltage energy storage devices. This topology has the following advantages: high conversion efficiency, high power factor at the grid side, tight control of the charging current and fast transition between the charging and discharging modes. The operating principle of the mode analysis, the gate signal generation, the general control strategy and the transition from a constant current (CC) to a constant voltage (CV) in the charging mode are discussed. The proposed control strategy has been validated by simulations and experimental results obtained with a 1kW laboratory prototype using supercapacitors as an energy storage device.
In this paper, a secondary resonance half-bridge dc-dc converter with an inductive output filter is presented. The primary side of such a converter utilizes asymmetric pulse width modulation (APWM) to achieve zero-voltage switching (ZVS) of the switches, and clamps the voltage of the switch to the input voltage. In addition, zero current switching (ZCS) of the output diode is achieved by a half-wave rectifier circuit with a filter inductor and a resonant branch in the secondary side of the proposed converter. Thus, the switching losses and diode reverse-recovery losses are eliminated, and the performance of the converter can be improved. Furthermore, an inductive output filter exists in the converter reduce the output current ripple. The operational principle, performance analysis and design equation of this converter are given in this paper. The analysis results show that the output diode voltage stress is independent of the duty cycle, and that the voltage gain is almost linear, similar to that of the isolation Buck-type converter. Finally, a 200V~380V input, 24V/2A output experimental prototype is built to verify the theoretical analysis.
Smart transformers are effective at reducing the weight and increasing the efficiency of traction systems for railroad applications. A smart transformer generally consists of rectifier modules and the Dual-Active-Bridge (DAB) converter modules. The efficiency of the smart transformer depends on not only the electrical characteristics, but also on the control method of the converter modules. Especially, a DAB converter has a high order degree of freedom of voltage modulation to control the power transferred through the high frequency transformer, and a voltage modulation method, are very critical for the efficiency of the DAB converter. This paper proposes a new voltage modulation method for the DAB converter to increase the efficiency in the low/medium power transfer condition. The proposed modulation method controls the reactive power in the high frequency transformer, making it zero. And, the switching loss is dramatically reduced by using the received converter module as a diode rectifier. The feasibility of the proposed modulation method is verified by computer simulation of the 900Vdc DAB converter power control.

We have examined the effects of certain mutations of the selectivity filter and of the membrane helix M2 on $Ba^{2+}$ blockage of the inward rectifier potassium channel, Kir 2.1. We expressed mutant and wild type murine Kir 2.1 in Chinese hamster ovary(CHO) cells and used the whole cell patch-clamp technique to record $K^+$ currents in the absence and presence of externally applied $Ba^{2+}$. Wild type Kir2.1 was blocked by externally applied $Ba^{2+}$ in a voltage and concentration dependent manner. Mutants of Y145 in the selectivity filter showed little change in the kinetics of $Ba^{2+}$ blockage. The estimated $K_d(0)$ was 108 ${\mu}M$ for Kir2.1 wild type, 124 ${\mu}M$ for a concatameric WT-Y145V dimer, 109 ${\mu}M$ for a WT-Y145L dimer, and 267 ${\mu}M$ for Y145F. Mutant channels T141A and S165L exhibit a reduced affinity together with a large reduction in the rate of blockage. In S165L, blockage proceeds with a double exponential time course, suggestive of more than one blocking site. The double mutation T141A/S165L dramatically reduced affinity for $Ba^{2+}$, also showing two components with very different time courses. Mutants D172K and D172R(lining the central, aqueous cavity of the channel) showed both a decreased affinity to $Ba^{2+}$ and a decrease in the on transition rate constant(${\kappa}_{on}$). These results imply that residues stabilising the cytoplasmic end of the selectivity filter(T141, S165) and in the central cavity(D172) are major determinants of high affinity $Ba^{2+}$ blockage in Kir 2.1.
Inhibition of $K^+$ outward currents by linopirdine in the outer hair cells (OHCs) of circling mice (homozygous (cir/cir) mice), an animal model for human deafness (DFNB6 type), was investigated using a whole cell patch clamp technique. Littermate heterozygous (+/cir) and ICR mice of the same age (postnatal day (P) 0 -P6) were used as controls. Voltage steps from -100 mV to 40 mV elicited small inward currents (-100 mV~-70 mV) and slow rising $K^+$ outward currents (-60 mV~40 mV) which activated near -50 mV in all OHCs tested. Linopirdine, a known blocker of $K^+$ currents activated at negative potentials ($I_{K,n}$), did cause inhibition at varying degree (severe, moderate, mild) in $K^+$ outward currents of heterozygous (+/cir) or homozygous (cir/cir) mice OHCs in the concentration range between 1 and $100{\mu}m$, while it was apparent only in one ICR mice OHC out of nine OHCs at $100{\mu}m$. Although the half inhibition concentrations in heterozygous (+/cir) or homozygous (cir/cir) mice OHCs were close to those reported in $I_{K,n}$, biophysical and pharmacological properties of $K^+$ outward currents, such as the activation close to -50 mV, small inward currents evoked by hyperpolarizing steps and TEA sensitivity, were not in line with $I_{K,n}$ reported in other tissues. Our results show that the delayed rectifier type $K^+$ outward currents, which are not similar to $I_{K,n}$ with respect to biophysical and pharmacological properties, are inhibited by linopirdine in the developing (P0~P6) homozygous (cir/cir) or heterozygous (+/cir) mice OHCs.

This paper presents the design of acoustic resonance(AR) free and dimmable electronic ballast for 1kW Metal-Halide Lamp(MHL). The proposed Ballast consists of a Full-Bridge(FB) rectifier, a passive power factor correction(PFC) circuit, a full-bridge inverter, an ignitor using LC resonance and a control circuit for frequency modulation and dimming control. Whereas a passive PFC provides advantages in terms of high reliability and low cost for constructing the circuit, it is difficult to supply a stable voltage because of the output voltage ripple that occurs with a period of 120Hz. Although the ballast can be designed with a small size and a light weight if it is driven at a switching frequency between 1 and 100 kHz, AR will occur if the eigenvalue frequency of the lamp coincides with the inverter's operation frequency. The operation frequency was modulated in real time according to the output voltage ripple to compensate for the variation in power supplied to the lamp and eliminate AR. For dimming, the method, which modulated drive frequency of FB inverter using the control of DC level by microprocessor, was used. The Dimming ranged at least from 600W to 1kw as rated power of the lamp with 4 stages. Performance of the proposed technique was validated through numerical analysis, computer simulation using Pspice and by applying it to an electronic ballast for a prototype 1kW MHL.
A low dropout (LDO) regulator with a wide-bandwidth is proposed in this paper. The regulator features a Human Body Model (HBM) 8kV-class high robustness ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD) protection circuit, and two error amplifiers (one with low gain and wide bandwidth, and the other with high gain and narrow bandwidth). The dual error amplifiers are located within the feedback loop of the LDO regulator, and they selectively amplify the signal according to its ripples. The proposed LDO regulator is more efficient in its regulation process because of its selective amplification according to frequency and bandwidth. Furthermore, the proposed regulator has the same gain as a conventional LDO at 62 dB with a 130 kHz-wide bandwidth, which is approximately 3.5 times that of a conventional LDO. The proposed device presents a fast response with improved load and line regulation characteristics. In addition, to prevent an increase in the area of the circuit, a body-driven fabrication technique was used for the error amplifier and the pass transistor. The proposed LDO regulator has an input voltage range of 2.5 V to 4.5 V, and it provides a load current of 100 mA in an output voltage range of 1.2 V to 4.1 V. In addition, to prevent damage in the Integrated Circuit (IC) as a result of static electricity, the reliability of IC was improved by embedding a self-produced 8 kV-class (Chip level) ESD protection circuit of a P-substrate-Triggered Silicon Controlled Rectifier (PTSCR) type with high robustness characteristics.
