Mother-Infant Book Reading in the Home (1, 2세 영아-어머니의 가정에서의 책 읽기 상호작용)

  • This study explored mother-infant interactions during reading of picture books with and without printed words. The interactions of 40 mother-infant dyads(??) were video-taped while mothers read the books aloud to their 1- or 2-year-old child at home. When reading the books with words, mothers used more "where" questions and gave more feedback to the non-verbal behavior of the infants. Mothers gave more labels, descriptions, predictions, and "what", "function/activity" questions when reading the wordless book. The infants used more nonverbal answers reading the book with words. The mothers of the 2-year-olds used more "what", "function/activity" questions, and gave feedback to their verbal behaviors. The 2-year-olds used more imitation, verbal answers, and comments. For the mothers of the 2-year-olds, the interaction with the wordless book led to more attention-recruiting and bridging. For the children, however, reading the wordless book led to more labels, questions, and comments.

Compartmental Analysis of the Insulin-induced GLUT4 Recruitment in Adipocytes

  • Insulin stimulates glucose uptake in muscle and adipose tissue and thus maintains normal blood glucose level in our body. Derangement of this process causes many grave health problems. Insulin stimulates glucose transport primarily by recruiting GLUT4 from its intracellular storage sites to the plasma membrane. The process is complex and involves GLUT4 trafficking through multiple subcellular compartments (organelles) and many protein functions, details of which are poorly understood. This review summarizes a recent development to isolate and characterize the individual intracellular GLUT4 compartments and to illustrate how this compartmental analysis will help to identify the insulin-sensitive step or steps in the insulin-induced GLUT4 recruitment in rat adipocytes. The review does not cover the recent exciting development in identification of many proteins implicated in this process.

  • The purpose of this article is to develop a dynamic model of organizational capabilities and knowledge creation, and at the same time identify the organizational capability factors for effective knowledge creation, by empirically analyzing the history of new Quinolone antibacterial drug compound (LB20304a) discovery process at LG, as a case in point. Major findings of this study are as follows. First, in a science-based area such as drug development, the core of successful knowledge creation lies in creative combination of different bodies of scientific explicit knowledge. Second, the greater the difficulty of learning external knowledge, the more tacit knowledge is needed for the recipient firm to effectively exploit that knowledge. Third, in science-based sector such as pharmaceutical industry, the key for successful knowledge creation lies in the capability of recruiting and retaining star scientists. Finally, for effective knowledge creation, a firm must keep its balance among three dimensions of organizational capabilities: local, process, architectural capabilities.

ISOLATING THE MOST RECENT ENTRY IN A RANDOM RECURSIVE TREE BY RANDOM CUTS

  • A recursive tree is constructed by starting with a root node and repeatedly adjoining new nodes to one node of the tree already constructed. Such a tree can represent, for example, the heirarchy of a workforce of a company that grows via recruiting. At times of economic depression, the company may decide to layoff participants, and in some cases it is a fair policy to relieve the last senior worker (most recent entry in the tree). If we remove an edge from such a tree then it falls into two subtrees one of which contains the most recent entry. If we continue to remove edges from the successively smaller subtrees that contain the most recent entry, we eventually isolate the most recent entry. We consider how many randomly selected edges must be removed in average before isolating the most recent entry by this procedure.

  • Participatory sensing applications rely on recruiting appropriate participants to share their surrounding conditions with others, and have been widely used in many areas like environmental monitoring, health care, and traffic congestion monitoring, etc. In such applications, how to ensure the privacy of a participant is important, since incentive mechanisms are used to maintain their enthusiasm for sustainable participation by offering certain amount of reward. In this paper, we propose a pseudonym-based privacy protection scheme, that takes both privacy protection and user incentives into consideration. The proposed scheme uses the pseudonym mechanism and one-way hash function to achieve user incentives, while protecting their identity. We also show extensive analysis of the proposed scheme to demonstrate that it can meet the security and performance the requirement of a participatory sensing application.

A Study on the Factors of Women Student's Dropout from Engineering College (공학계 여학생의 중도탈락 요인에 관한 연구)

  • In order to aware the situation and factors of women students' dropout from engineering college, the factor analysis for women students in P university was performed. The results showed responses that social cultural effects is more significant ones than social effect alone, and the effects of negative gender cognition in industrial circle and college to the women employees and coeds are more significant than effects of regional or positional ones. Also showed responses that the physical difference from man students, the ability for handling machine and tools, her parents' moral support, the gender cognitive engineering education and the boosting for job recruiting are more significants effects than the scholastic ability or the ageism. This may lay the foundation to make a curriculum for women included engineering education that emphasize the gender cognitive approach and the circumstances.

  • Insulin stimulates glucose uptake in muscle and adipose cells primarily by recruiting GLUT4 from an intracellular storage pool to the plasma membrane. Dysfunction of this process known as insulin resistance causes hyperglycemia, a hallmark of diabetes and obesity. Thus the understanding of the mechanisms underlying this process at the molecular level may give an insight into the prevention and treatment of these health problems. GLUT4 in rat adipocytes, for example, constantly recycles between the cells surface and an intracellular pool by endocytosis and exocytosis, each of which is regulated by an insulin-sensitive and GLUT4-selective sorting mechanism. Our working hypothesis has been that this sorting mechanism includes a specific interaction of a cytosolic protein with the GLUT4 cytoplasmic domain. Indeed, a synthetic peptide of the C-terminal cytoplasmic domain of GLUT4 induces an insulin-like GLUT4 recruitment when introduced in rat adipocytes. Relevance of these observations to a novel euglycemic drug design is discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a pragmatic fashion internship program as a following study of 'An analysis of the consciousness of the professors and college students for the fashion industry internship'. The methods of the quantitative analysis and some case studies were used for this study. The results of this study were as follows : Internship program has 6 steps ; ready, introduction, selection, operation, reputation, management. It will help professors and college students to execute the program systematically. The contents of the fashion internship program model for professors were as follows: 8 recruiting methods to find internship companies, the contents of the internship agreement, 6 types of internship, the contents of the recommendation letter, advanced education contents for a fashion internship, e-mentoring program model, a curriculum of the cultural study and the major course, evaluation standard elements of the intern students, the methods of evaluation etc.

How Apparel Companies Use Social Media: The Case of Facebook

  • This study focused on how the U.S. apparel companies use social media as a new marking channel. On Facebook Wall the contents of messages in English initiated by companies and consumers were investigated and categorized by using content analysis. Chi-square analysis and t-test were utilized to compare the use of social media by companies with higher and lower business performance. The majority of messages initiated by apparel companies gave their consumers useful information about new products, promotions, and recruiting. On the other hand, messages initiated by consumers contained a variety of content related to companies, users, and products. Apparel companies with lower business performance were more actively engaged in posting messages and responding to consumers. The results will be helpful in employing social media to build new marketing strategies through direct communications with consumers.

  • 전자상거래 기술의 발전에 따라 사용자를 대신하여 협상을 수행하는 소프트웨어 에이전트의 활용에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 협상 에이전트는 협상의 양측인 구매자와 판매자를 대신하는 멀티 에이전트로 쌍방향의 협상이 이루어지며, 가격을 통한 단일 속성으로 시간에 따른 협상이 연구되어 왔다. 본 논문은 단일 속성과 다중 속성에 대한 두 가지 방식의 효율적인 협상을 제공하기 위한 협상 에이전트를 제안한다. 다중 속성에 대한 협상은 지원자가 원하는 협상 요소를 결정하며, 각 속성간의 중요도에 따른 가중치를 부여한 협상 알고리즘과 자율 협상을 위해 전략을 제안한다. 인터넷을 이용한 채용이 보편화되어 지원자와 고용자의 단일 속성과 다중 속성에 대한 협상이 요구되는 시점에서, 인터넷 채용 시스템에서 지원자, 고용주를 대신하는 협상 에이전트를 적용시켰다.
