Post-fire Repair of Concrete Structural Members: A Review on Fire Conditions and Recovered Performance

  • Concrete structures may rarely collapse in fire incidents but fire induced damage to structural members is inevitable as a result of material degradation and thermal expansion. This requires certain repairing measures to be applied to restore the performance of post-fire members. A brief review on investigation of post-fire damage of concrete material and concrete structural members is presented in this paper, followed by a review of post-fire repair research regarding various types of repairing techniques (FRP, steel plate, and concrete section enlargement) and different type of structural members including columns, beams, and slabs. Particularly, the fire scenarios adopted in these studies leading to damage are categorized as three levels according to the duration of gas-phase temperature above 600℃ (t600). The repair effectiveness in terms of recovered performance of concrete structural members compared to the initial undamaged performance has been summarized and compared regarding the repairing techniques and fire intensity levels. The complied results have shown that recovering the ultimate strength is achievable but the stiffness recovery is difficult. Moreover, the current fire loading scenarios adopted in the post-fire repair research are mostly idealized as constant heating rates or standard fire curves, which may have produced unrealistic fire damage patterns and the associated repairing techniques may be not practical. For future studies, the realistic fire impact and the system-level structural damage investigation are necessary.

복합재료의 수분에 의한 열화 및 회복 메커니즘에 관한 연구 (A Study on Degradation and Recovery Mechanisms of Composites under the Moisture Environment)

  • 섬유강화 복합재료는 수분에 의해 강도저하가 발생하며 이로 인하여 파괴가 발생하여 인적 물적 피해를 야기하고있다. 본 논문에서는 흡습에 의한 강도저하의 원인을 규명하고자 하였다. 먼저 수분이 복합재료에 흡수되는 메커니즘을 가정하였다. 흡수 메커니즘은 step 1, step 2, 그리고 step 3로 구분하였다. 이 메커니즘을 증명하기 위하여 강화섬유 및 수지의 종류, 수분이 흡수되는 시간 등의 조건을 다르게 하여 시험을 하였으며 그 결과 건조에 의해 인장강도가 회복되는 가역(reversible)반응과 건조로 인해 회복이 불가능한 비가역(irreversible)반응이 모두 작용함을 알 수 있었다. 강도저하는 흡습율 2.5% 에서 거의 완료되며, 흡습율이 4%에 이르면 비가역반응에 의한 강도저하가 많이 작용하여 강도회복이 적어지는 경향을 보였다.

하치조신경관으로 과충전된 근관치료 충전재에 의한 감각이상의 외과적 처치 (Surgical treatment for dysesthesia after overfilling of endodontic material into the mandibular canal)

  • Damage to the inferior alveolar nerve(IAN) is a relatively infrequent complication in endodontic treatment. However, endodontic overfilling involving the mandibular canal may cause an injury of the inferior alveolar nerve resulting in sensory disturbances such as pain, dysesthesia, paresthesia or anesthesia. Two mechanism(chemical neurotoxicity and mechanical compression) are responsible for the IAN injury. When absorbent materials overfilled, it can be treated as a non-surgical procedure. But early surgical intervention required when mechanical, chemical nerve damage expected. We report surgical removal of overfilled gutta-percha and IAN decompression through sagittal split osteotomy in case of dysesthesia after overfilling of endodontic material into the mandibular canal. Dysesthesia recovered 3 months after surgical treatment.

  • A simple cold pressing procedure which allows shear deformations on sheet metals is proposed by designing dies with grooves and applied to aluminum 3003 sheets. shear deformation led to the formation of preferred orientation along <100>//RD, and the effect of initial tortures on the formation of shear textures was also studied Rectangular shaped dislocation cells formed in the deformed microstructure and boundaries of dislocation cells gradually rounded with the increased plastic strain. Upon subsequent annealing textures inherited deformation textures. Recrystallized grains consisted of a large number of fully recovered subgrains with well defined boundaries which persisted even after annealing at a higher temperature.

  • The effects of $O_2$ plasma ashing process for surface treatment of nano-wire Bio-FET were investigated. In order to evaluate the plasma damage introduced by $O_2$ plasma ashing, a back-gate biasing method was developed and the electrical characteristics as a function of $O_2$ plasma power were measured. Serious degradations of electrical characteristics of nano-wire Bio-FET were observed when the plasma power is higher than 50 W. For curing the plasma damages, a forming gas anneal (2 %, $H_2/N_2$) was carried out at $400^{\circ}C$. As a result, the electrical characteristics of nano-wire Bio-FET were considerably recovered.

  • Melting behavior and bridge phenomenon of solder paste, which is essential for surface mount technology in packaging, were investigated. solder paste of Sn-37%Pb was printed on Sn-coated Cu-pattern of PCB, and heated over melting point. Melting behavior of the paste was observed using CCD-camera. In order to modelize the melting and agglomeration phenomena of the paste, two solder balls of 0.76mm diameter were used. As experimental results, the paste start to melt from the margin of the printed shape. The hight of the melted paste decreased from 270 $\mu$m to 200 $\mu$m firstly, and finally recovered to 250 $\mu$m. During the melting procedure, pores were evolved from the molten paste. Bridge Phenomenon of the molten Paste depends upon the pitch of the pattern.

  • The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of Al and Ti on microstructure of Fe-Cr-Al alloy systems for applying electrical resistance wires of electrical furnace. From the preliminary study, the amount of recovered addition elements increased in the case of both vacuum and Ar-atmosphere melting than that in the case of air-atmosphere melting. Also, optimum Cr content for good performance at high temperature was approximately 24wt% from the observation of microstucture. The precipitates of Fe-Cr, Al-Cr and Al phases were observed, adding Al and Ti. Especially, Sharp rectangular shapes of precipitates were observed with increasing amount of Ti.

  • The tensile strain dependency of critical current in YBCO coated conductors was examined at 77K and in the self magnetic field. A commercially available YBCO sample with Cu stabilizer layer was supplied. There existed a peak in the relation between the Ie and tensile strain, and the reversible variation of $I_c$ with applied tensile strain was found. In the neutral axis Ni alloy RABiTS-$Y_2O_3$/YSZ/$CeO_2$ buffered YBCO tape, the $I_c$ recovered reversibly until the applied strain reached to about 0.5%, representing that a significant residual compressive strain induced during cooling to 77 K influenced the axial strain tolerance of YBCO conductors. To investigate the strain and stress influence on the $I_c$, the stress-strain characteristics of YBCO conductors measured at 77 K were discussed.

  • 본 연구에서는 폐자동차의 재활용 향상을 위하여 전량 소각 및 매립에 의해 처리되고 있는 폐자동차 tail lamp를 해체공정에서 회수하고, 마찰하전형정전선별법을 적용하여 재질분리 연구를 수행하였다. 하전특성 연구결과 PMMA재질이 폐자동차 tail lamp의 재질분리에 효과적인 하전물질로 확인되어, PMMA재질을 사용한 cyclone 하전장치를 개발하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 cyclone 하전장치를 이용한 마찰하전형정전선별 실험결과, 최적 실험조건에서 폐자동차 tail lamp로부터 PMMA 재질의 품위와 회수율이 각각 99.0%와 90.2%인 결과를 얻어, 폐자동차 tail lamp를 재활용 할 수 있는 재질분리 기술을 확립하였다.

  • 전기적 환원을 이용한 인공 사진폐수에서의 은 회수를 연속순환식 공정을 적용하여 환원시간 및 두 전극간의 전합 차, 농도유량에 따른 영향을 검토하였다. 은 함유 인공폐수 처리에 있어 적용(인가) 전압과 초기 농도가 증가함에 따라 제거율이 증가함을 보였다. 은 함유 인공폐수의 전해 반응 시, 음극에 환원 석출된 물질의 정성적인 분석을 위해 EPMA 및 XRD 분석 결과, 석출된 물질이 은임을 확인하였다.
