  • This paper proposes method to get exquisite third dimension data removing included noise by error that occur in third dimension reconstruction through camera auto-calibration. Though reconstructing third dimension data by previous noise removing method, mesh that area is wide is happened problem by noise. Because mesh's area is important, the proposed algorithm need preprocessing that remove unnecessary triangle meshes of acquired third dimension data. The research analyzes the characteristics of noise using the area information of 3-dimensional meshes, separates a peek noise and a Gauss noise by its characteristics and removes the noise effectively. We give a quantitative evaluation of the proposed preprocessing filter and compare with the mesh smoothing procedures. We demonstrate that our effective preprocessing filter outperform the mesh smoothing procedures in terms of accuracy and resistance to over-smoothing.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out the normal distal tibial articular surface angle in coronal plane in Koreans. This would be helpful as the basic data for ankle reconstruction after trauma or deformity correction. Materials and Methods: Weight bearing anteroposterior radiographs of 123 normal ankles were reviewed. A line parallel to the shaft of the tibia was made. Another line was drawn parallel to the articular surface of the distal tibia. The superolateral angle that subtended by these two lines was measured. Results: There were 72 males and 51 females. The mean age overall was 35.7 years old. The mean age for males was 31.9 ($28{\sim}36$) years old. The mean age for females was 41.1 ($37{\sim}45$) years old. The mean distal tibial articular surface angle was $90.8^{\circ}$. The mean distal tibial articular surface angle for males was $91.5^{\circ}$ and for females $89.9^{\circ}$. Conclusion: The mean distal tibial articular surface angle in coronal plane for Koreans is $90.8^{\circ}$. We can avoid the error of the varization at the ankle alignment when the correction was performed vertical or minimal valgus to tibia tuberosity axis in Korean people.

  • Presented in this paper are the experimental results that measure rapid prototyping (RP) errors in 3D medical models. We identified various factors that can cause dimensional errors when producing RP models, specifically in maxillofacial areas. For the experiment, we used a human dry skull. A number of linear measurements based on landmarks were first obtained on the skull. This was followed by CT scanning, 3D model reconstruction, and RP model fabrication. The landmarks were measured again on both the reconstructed models and the physical RP models, and these were compared with those on dry skull. We focused on major sources of errors, such as CT scanning, conversion from CT data to STL models, and RP model fabrication. The results show that the overall error from skull to RP is $0.64{\times}0.36mm(0.71{\times}0.66%)$ in absolute value. This indicates that the RP technology can be acceptable in the real clinical applications. A clinical case that has applied RP models successfully for treatment planning and surgical rehearsal is presented. Although the use of RP models is rare in the medical area yet, we believe RP is promising in that it has a great potential in developing new tools which can aid diagnosis, treatment planning, surgical rehearsal, education, and so on.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the dimensional accuracy of digital dental models constructed from cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) scans of polyvinyl siloxane (PVS) impressions and cast scan models. Materials and Methods: A pair of PVS impressions was obtained from 20 subjects and scanned using CBCT (resolution, 0.1 mm). A cast scan model was constructed by scanning the gypsum model using a model scanner. After reconstruction of the digital models, the mesio-distal width of each tooth, inter-canine width, and inter-molar width were measured, and the Bolton ratios were calculated and compared. The 2 models were superimposed and the difference between the models was measured using 3-dimensional analysis. Results: The range of mean error between the cast scan model and the CBCT scan model was -0.15 mm to 0.13 mm in the mesio-distal width of the teeth and 0.03 mm to 0.42 mm in the width analysis. The differences in the Bolton ratios between the cast scan models and CBCT scan models were 0.87 (anterior ratio) and 0.72 (overall ratio), with no significant difference (P>0.05). The mean maxillary and mandibular difference when the cast scan model and the CBCT scan model were superimposed was 53 ㎛. Conclusion: There was no statistically significant difference in most of the measurements. The maximum tooth size difference was 0.15mm, and the average difference in model overlap was 53 ㎛. Digital models produced by scanning impressions at a high resolution using CBCT can be used in clinical practice.

  • This study developed a band-pass filter based artificial filter bank(BAFB) based on that in order to efficiently obtain the significant dynamic responses. The BAFB was then optimized about the El-centro earthquake wave which was often used in the construction research, and the software implementation of BAFB was finally embedded in the wireless unified management system(WiUMS). For the evaluation of the developed BAFB, a real time dynamic response experiment was performed on a cable-stayed bridge model, and the response of the cable-stayed bridge model was measured using both the traditional wired system and the developed BAFB-based WiUMS. The experiment results showed that the compressed dynamic response acquired by the BAFB-based WiUMS matched significantly with that of the traditional wired system while still carrying sufficient modal information of the cable-stayed bridge. Finally, the developed BAFB was able to reconstruct or re-sample the dynamic response wholly from the compressed response signal, and it can be applied as a new kind of measurement system for a wireless sensor networks based structural health monitoring system that secures both economy and efficiency.

  • The exemplar-based inpainting model is widely used to remove objects from natural images and to restore a damaged region. This paper presents a method which improves the performance of the conventional exemplar-based inpainting model by modifying three major parts in the model: data term, confidence term and patch selection. While the conventional data term is calculated using the local gradient, the proposed method uses 16 compass masks to get the global gradient to make the method robust to noise. To overcome the problem that the confidence term gets negligible in the inside of the eliminated region, a method is proposed which makes the confidence term decrease slowly in the eliminated region. The patch selection procedure is modified so that the closer patch has higher weight. Experiments showed that the proposed method produced more natural images and lower reconstruction error than the conventional exemplar-based inpainting.

  • How to recover from the multiple 2D images into 3D object has been widely studied in the field of computer vision. In order to improve the accuracy of the recovered 3D shape, it is more important that noise must be minimized and the number of image frames must be guaranteed. However, potential noise is implied when tracking feature points. And the number of image frames which is consisted of an observation matrix usually decrease because of tracking failure, occlusions, or low image resolution, and so on. Therefore, it is obviously essential that the number of image frames must be secured by recovering the missing feature points under noise. Thus, we propose the analytic approach which can control directly the error distance and orientation of missing feature point by the geometrical properties under noise distribution. The superiority of proposed method is demonstrated through experimental results for synthetic and real object.

  • This study proposed an improved center array-sequencing phase unwrapping (ICASPU) algorithm. 2% agarose phantom dopped with 0.6mM/l MnCl2 was used with clinical 1.5T MRI system and commercial knee coil. Obtained k-space data(raw-data) was transmitted to PC and reconstructed into phase image with MATLAB software. Previous center array-sequence phase unwrapping algorithm wascompared with proposed ICASP algorithm using second order regression analysis. As a result, we found that the amount of error on proposed ICASPU method is less about 5 times than that of previous CASPU method. In this study, we exploit improved Center array-sequence phase unwrapping algorithm and expect to apply to images including phase informations.

  • Satellite data for remote sensing technology has limitations, especially with visible range sensor, cloud and/or other environmental factors cause missing data. In this study, using land surface temperature data from the MODerate resolution Imaging Spectro-radiometer(MODIS), we developed retrieving methods for satellite missing data and developed three methods; mean bias, regression analysis and local variation method. These methods used the previous day data as reference data. In order to validate these methods, we selected a specific measurement ratio using artificial missing data from 2014 to 2015. The local variation method showed low accuracy with root mean square error(RMSE) more than 2 K in some cases, and the regression analysis method showed reliable results in most cases with small RMSE values, 1.13 K, approximately. RMSE with the mean bias method was similar to RMSE with the regression analysis method, 1.32 K, approximately.
