The objectives of this paper were to simply estimate soil loss levels as caused by wind in reclaimed tidal flat land (RTFL) and the threshold wind velocity in the RTFL. For this experiment, RTFL located at Haenam Bay was selected and a total of 150 soil samples were collected at the Ap horizon from the five soil series. The particle distribution curves, including the limit of the non-erodible particle size (D > 0.84 mm) for each Ap horizon soil, show that the proportions of non-erodible particle sizes that exceeded 0.84 mm were 4.3% (Taehan, TH), 8.9% (Geangpo, GP), 0.5% (Bokchun, BC), 1.6% (Poseung, PS) and 1.4% (Junbook, JB), indicating that the amount of non-erodible soil particles increased with an increase in the sand content. The average monthly, daily and instantaneous wind velocities were higher than the threshold friction velocity (TFV) calculated according to the dynamic velocity (Vd) by Bagnold, while the average monthly wind velocity was lower than those of the TFV suggested by the revised wind erosion equation (RWEQ) and wind erosion prediction system (WEPS). The susceptible proportions of erodible soil particles from the Ap horizon soil samples from each soil series could be significantly influenced by the proportion of sand particles between 0.025 and 0.5 mm (or 0.84 mm) in diameter regardless of the threshold wind velocity. Thus, further investigations are needed to estimate more precisely soil erosion in RTFL, which shows various soil characteristics, as these estimations of soil loss in the five soil series were obtained only when considering wind velocities and soil textures.

It is imperative to study the hydrolysis of urea in high saline-sodic condition of a newly reclaimed tidal land in order to overcome the problems associated with use of urea fertilizer. The methodology adopted in this study tried to get a convenient way of estimating rate for N transformation needed in N fate and transport studies by reviewing pH and salt contents which can affect the microbial activity which is closely related to the rate of urea hydrolysis. The hydrolysis of urea over time follows first-order kinetics and soil urease activity in reclaimed soils will be represented by Michaelis-Menten-type kinetics. However, high pH and less microorganisms may delay the hydrolysis of urea due to decrease in urease activity with increasing pH. Therefore, the rate of urea hydrolysis should adopt $V_{max}$ referring enzyme activity ($E_0$) accounting for urease concentration which is indicative for urea hydrolysis, especially in a high saline and sodic soils.

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of single and co-inoculation of plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPB) on early plant growth in Saemangeum reclaimed soil. Plant growth promoting Brevibacterium iodinum RS16 and Methylobacterium oryzae CBMB20 were inoculated on maize (Zea mays L.) and sorghum-sudangrass hybrid (Sorghum bicolor L.) grown in Saemangeum reclaimed soil. Single and co-inoculation of B. iodinum RS16 and M. oryzae CBMB20 increased plant height, dry biomass accumulation and macro-nutrient accumulation of maize and sorghum-sudangrass hybrid. M. oryzae CBMB20 treatment increased plant height in maize by 41.2% at 30 days after sowing (DAS), shoot dry weight and total dry weight compared to non-inoculated treatment. Macro-nutrient accumulation (N and P) in maize roots was significantly increased with co-inoculation treatment, K and Ca content was significantly increased at B. iodinum RS16 treatment compared to non-inoculated treatment. Macro-nutrient accumulation (P, K, Ca and Mg) in shoot was higher with M. oryzae CBMB20 treatment compared to non-inoculated treatment. In case of sorghum-sudangrass hybrid, co-inoculation treatment showed 33.7% increase in plant height compared to non-inoculated treatment at 30 DAS. M. oryzae CBMB20 treatment increased root dry weight and total dry weight, macro-nutrient accumulation in roots and N, Ca and Mg accumulation in shoot compared to non-inoculated treatment. P and K accumulation in shoot was significantly increased at co-inoculation treatment compared to non-inoculated treatment. This pot culture experiment demonstrated that single and co-inoculation of B. iodinum RS16 and M. oryzae CBMB20 increased the early growth and nutrient accumulation of maize and sorghum-sudangrass hybrid.
The effect of soil salinity and soil-wetting by rise of water table on the growth of fruit trees was studied to obtain information for orchard establishment in the Saemangeum reclaimed tidal land. Survival ratio of trees was 85%for grape, 31%for fig, 15%for apple and pear, and near zero for peach and blueberry. Wet injury induced by water-logged or flooded condition, rather than salt injury(soil EC was lower than 3.0dS $m^{-1}$ during growing period) is thought to be more responsible for low survival ratio of fruit trees transplanted in Saemangeum area. During the summer raining season in the reclaimed areas, the soil salinity tends to be decreased by natural rainfall effect, and the rainfall acceptable capacity(RAC) of soils dramatically is reduced(10-24 mm) as rainfall is continued to occur. In spite of high hydraulic conductivity(121 cm $day^{-1}$) of soils across the area, low RAC of soils might be due to high soil saturation and elevated water table during summer raining season. Therefore, the installation of effective drainage system should be the primary factor determining successful establishment of orchard in the Saemangeum reclaimed tidal land.
Recently, ex-situ remediation technologies has been emerging to clean up contaminated soils mainly because the in-situ techniques have limited applicability and technical difficulties in relatively small contaminated sites. Accordingly, implementation of off-site treatment and disposal have been continuously increased in soil remediation and restoration projects in Korea. However, in many cases, reclaimed soil is still not properly recycled or reused. Therefore, there is an urgent need to document the current status of soil management practices in soil remediation projects in the nation. This study presents a survey of soil contamination status and remedial approaches in Korea based on soil cleanup projects completed in 2015 - 2019, and proposes the possible options of the recycling or reusing the reclaimed soils under compliance with related regulations. The results of the soil survey showed soil contamination was most severe in gas stations, industrial facilities, and military areas. The major types of pollution were related to the petroleum-contaminated site (TPH and BTEX) with 77.0% occurrence in all the contaminated sites. The reclaimed soils were mostly reused as a ground filling-up soils in industrial facilities (60.0%) and warehouses (37.0%).

Development of the economic methods and the design of the standard sections needs the more project fund and land than ever leads to the objection of enlarging canal arrangement to need economic construction method development and standard design for supporting it. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of selected sediment reduction methods to reduce sediment discharges from drain and irrigation of different land types (Mountain, Flatten, Reclaimed land). This study was carried out to analysis for the soil loss and sediment of drain and irrigation by comparing RUSLE method and amount of sediment from amount of dredging data of Korea Rural Corporation. The results of study were analyzed and summarized as follow. Size of soil sediment from the upper region of drain and irrigation of mountains bigger than lower region. But in case of flatten and reclaimed land, size of soil sediment from the upper and lower region of drain and irrigation did not classified. In case of comparison drain and irrigation without classifying of land type, size of soil sediment from irrigation is bigger than drain.
A study was performed to investigate the positive impacts of humic substances (HS) on the growth of green barley, a type of green manure plant. The study was conducted in a pot culture using two different types of reclaimed soils that had been treated by land farming (DDC) and thermal desorption (YJ) methods, respectively. The experimental conditions consisted of three treatments: plant only (P), plant plus 2% HS, and no plant (control). After 89 days of culture in a controlled growth chamber, the growth of spring barley and activity of seven soil enzymes were measured. The results indicated that the addition of HS had a substantial (p<0.10) positive effect on shoot biomass in both types of soil. Furthermore, the addition of HS notably (p<0.05) enhanced all seven soil enzyme activities in both soils. Both the aboveground and belowground parts of barley plants were returned to soil and aged for 10 weeks in the same growth chamber, which resulted in notable enhancement in soil health indicators. These improvements included an increase in organic matter, a drop in bulk density, and an increase in the activity of seven different soil enzymes. When lentil seeds were planted in the aged soils, the development of the seedlings was more vigorous than that in the control in both soils, although allelopathy of barley suppressed lentil germination in soil with pH 7.0 but not in soil with pH 8.5.

This pot experiment was conducted to find out the forage productivity and contents of mineral nutrients in an orchardgrass sward affected by the compost lime, and phosphorus applications on the newly reclaimed and arable pasture soils. This 2nd part was concerned with the effect of lime application(L$_{0}$=control, L$_1$=279, L$_2$=54g CaCO$_3$/pot). The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. There were considerable differences between the newly reclaimed and arable pasture soils in the soil chemical properties as follows in general; poor/common in the newly reclaimed soil longrightarrow and common/good in the arable pasture soil in terms of soil fertility standard. 2. It was recognized that the lime application was resulted in somewhat decrease of the concentrations of available P$_2$O$_{5}$ and increase of P$_2$O$_{5}$ absorbtion coefficient in the newly reclaimed soil, whereas these negative effects were positively enhanced by both lime and compost applications. The concentrations of exchangeable Ca and mg in both soils were increased by lime application. 3. The vigour at early growth stage of orchardgrass was better in the arable pasture soil than newly reclaimed soil. It was worsened by the heavy lime application(L$_2$), but this negative effect was positively enhanced by both lime and compost application. 4. Compared with the non-lime application, the forage yields of L$_1$ treatment were increased in both soils by 15~18%. whereas it of L$_2$ treatment was similar or lower than it of L$_1$. 5. The concentrations of Ca, mg, and P in orchardgrass were relatively higher in the arable pasture soil than the newly reclaimed soil, whereas there it was no difference in the K concentration. It was recognized that the concentrations of mg and Ca in orchardgrass were higher in the L$_1$ treatment than the Lo treatment in both soils, whereas there were no difference in it between L$_1$ and L$_2$ treatments.ments.
Reclaimed tidal areas for rice cultivation are irrigated with salt mixed water when there is severe drought. Therefore, we identified the critical concentration of saline water for rice growth on a reclaimed saline soil in Korea. The experiment was conducted at the Kyehwado substation of the National Honam Agricultural Experiment Station (NHAES) during 2001-2002. Two experimental fields with 0.1-0.2% for low soil salinity and 0.3-0.4% for medium soil salinity levels were used. The experiment involved four levels of salt solution mixed with sea water (at 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7%) compared with a control using tap water in a split-plot design with three replicates. Saline solution was applied only two times at seedling stage (10 DAT and 25 DAT) for 5 days. Gyehwabyeo and dongjinbyeo, japonica rice varieties, were used in this experiment. Plant height and number of tillers sharply decreased in the 0.5% saline water in low soil salinity level and 0.1% in medium soil salinity level. For yield components, panicle number per unit area and percentage of ripened grain dramatically decreased in the 0.5% saline water in low soil salinity and 0.1% in medium soil salinity level. But 1,000-grain weight of brown rice decreased sharply in the 0.5% saline water in low soil salinity and 0.3% in medium soil salinity, indicating that this component was not much affected unlike other yield components. Milled rice yield decreased significantly with saline water level in both low and medium soil salinity. In the 0.7% low saline soil, the yield index was only 36% compared with the control. In medium soil salinity, even the control plot showed only 62% yield index compared with the control in the low soil salinity treatment. Results indicated that the critical concentration of saline water for rice growth in terms of economical income of rice production was 0.5% in low soil salinity and tap water in medium soil salinity.
This study was performed to produce basic data for developing prediction techniques of desalinization through analyzing soil properties of reclaimed tidal lands, using soil samples collected in 11 units of tidal land reclamation projects. The average apparent specific gravity (bulk density), real specific gravity (particle density), porosity, and saturation percentage were measured to be 1.33, 2.64, 49.6%, and 56.3%, respectively. It was estimated that the soil texture class of reclaimed tidal lands would be silt or silt loam. The electrical conductivity and exchangeable sodium percentage were estimated to be $20{\sim}40dS\;m^{-1}$ and 30~50% in the beginning of tidal land reclamation, and the value of pH was measured to be 6.5~7.9. In conclusion, the soil properties of reclaimed tidal lands could be descrived to be saline-sodic soils with the high electrical conductivity and exchangeable sodium percentage.
