  • This paper considers a downlink multi-carrier cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) transmission, where no direct link exists between the far user and the base station (BS), and the communication between them only relies on the assist of the near user. Firstly, the BS sends a superimposed signal of the far and the near user to the near user, and then the near user adopts simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) to split the received superimposed signal into two portions for energy harvesting and information decoding respectively. Afterwards, the near user forwards the signal of the far user by utilizing the harvested energy. A minimum data is required to ensure the quality of service (QoS) of the far user. We jointly optimize power allocation, subcarrier allocation, time allocation, the power allocation (PA) coefficient and the power splitting (PS) ratio to maximize the number of data bits received at the near user under the energy causality constraint, the minimum data constraint and the transmission power constraint. The block-coordinate descent method and the Lagrange duality method are used to obtain a suboptimal solution of this optimization problem. In the final simulation results, the superiority of the proposed NOMA scheme is confirmed compared with the benchmark NOMA schemes and the orthogonal multiple access (OMA) scheme.

  • In cellular orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) networks, co-channel interference (CCI) leads to severe degradation in the BER performance. To solve this problem, maximum-likelihood estimation (MLE) CCI cancellation scheme has been proposed in the literature. MLE CCI cancellation scheme generates weighted replicas of the transmitted signals where weights represent the estimated channel transfer functions. The replica with the smallest Euclidean distance from the received signal is selected and data are detected. When the received power of the desired and interference signals are nearly the same, the BER performance is degraded. In this paper, we propose a closed-loop power control (PC) scheme capable of detecting the equal received power situation at the mobile station (MS) receiver by using the newly introduced parameter power ratio (PR). When this situation is detected, the MS sends a feedback to the desired base station (BS) which boosts the transmission power in the next frame. At cell edge where signal to interferer ratio (SIR) is considered to have average value between -5 dB and 10 dB, computer simulations show that the proposed CCI cancellation scheme has a gain of 7 dB at 28 Km/h.

  • This paper presents a listening angle estimation scheme based on received signal power difference (RSPD) using acoustic signals, and analyzes the performance of the proposed scheme. The RSPD as the measurement to estimate the listening angle is considered for the first time in this paper. We mathematically analyze the error characteristics of the proposed scheme and present the characteristics of the proposed scheme through the Monte-Carlo simulation. We also conduct actual experiments in an anechoic room to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme to compare with the conventional scheme.

  • Outdoors we can easily acquire our accurate location by GPS. However, the GPS signal can't be acquired indoors because of its weak signal power level. Adequate positioning method is demanded for many indoor positioning applications. At present, wireless local area network (WLAN) is widely installed in various areas such as airport, campus, and park. This paper proposes a positioning algorithm using WLAN signal strength to provide the position of the WLAN user indoors. There are two methods for WLAN based positioning, the signal propagation method uses signal strength model over space and the empirical method uses RF power propagation database. The proposed method uses the probability distribution of the power propagation and the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) algorithm based on power strength DB. Test results show that the proposed method can provide reasonably accurate position information.

  • The beacon receiver is an equipment which detects and measures the signal strength of transmitting satellite beacon signal. Beacon signals transmitted by satellites are low power continuous wave(CW) signals without any modulation intended for antenna steering to satellite direction and power control purposes on the earth. The beacon signal detection method using a very narrow band analog filter and RSSI(Received Signal Strength Intensity) has been typically used. However, it requires the implementation to track the frequency at the beacon receiver, thus a beacon frequency variation of the satellite due to temperature changes and long-term operation. Therefore, in this paper, the beacon signal detection receiver is designed by using a very narrow band digital filter array for a faster acquisition and SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) method detection. For this purpose, by calculating the satellite link budget with the rain attenuation between satellite and ground station, and then extracting the received $C/N_o$ of the beacon signal, this work derives the bandwidth and the array number of the configured digital filter that gives the required C/N.

  • Electronic warfare systems for extracting information of the threat signals can be employed under the circumstance where the power of the received signal is weak. To precisely and rapidly detect the threat signals, it is required to use methods exploiting whole energy of the received signals instead of conventional methods using a single received signal input. To utilize the whole energy, numerous sizes of windows need to be implemented in a detector for dealing with all possible unknown length of the received signal because it is assumed that there is no preliminary information of the uncooperative signals. However, this grid search method requires too large computational complexity to be practically implemented. In order to resolve this complexity problem, an approach that reduces the number of windows by selecting the smaller number of representative windows can be considered. However, each representative window in this approach needs to cover a certain amount of interval divided from the considering range. Consequently, the discordance between the length of the received signal and the window sizes results in degradation of the detection performance. Therefore, we propose the weighted energy detector which results in improved detection performance comparing with the conventional energy detector under circumstance where the window size is smaller than the length of the received signal. In addition, it is shown that the proposed method exhibits the same performance under other circumstances.

  • UWB(ultra wide band) communication systems employ short pulses to transmit information which spreads the signal energy over a very wide frequency spectrum. Received signal-to-noise power ratio of UWB signals is an important factor in determining the accuracy of a positioning system. As the signal to noise power ratio gets higher, positioning errors decrease since noise becomes less effective. Calculation of signal to noise power ratio as a function of communication distance provides important guidelines for the system design. And the performance of a positioning system also depends heavily on the channel model. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the performance of the received signal to noise power ratio according to the communication distance was better in the LOS channel environment than in the Non LOS(line of sight) channel environment. And as the symbol interval of the preamble signal increases at a specific communication distance, the channel capacity of the UWB system increases.

  • The transmission performance of optical labeling based on a combined frequency shift keying/amplitude shift keying (FSK/ASK) format is studied by numerical simulation. The simulation demonstrates that the bit-error ratio (BER) characteristic of an ASK signal is limited by the extinction ratio, received optical power, and dispersion, simultaneously. However, an FSK signal is mainly limited by the extinction ratio (ER) and received optical power when the peak spectrum, which is used to detect the FSK signal, is relatively narrow.

  • In this paper, we introduce a modified interference cancellation scheme for multiuser detection in CDMA. This detector uses successive interference canceller(SIC) and the divided received signal concepts. The active users are splits into two groups large signal power group and small signal power group- throughout ranking, matched filter, decision, regeneration. And each group is subtracted from the received signal respectively to obtain good BER performance. Each of the resulting signal is become respectively SICs input signal The computer simulation and analysis of structure demonstrate that the proposed SIC keeps the SICs BER performance, complexity and reduces SICs delay time.

  • Products of Wi-Fi devices in recent years offer higher throughput and have longer signal coverage which also bring unnecessary signal interference to neighboring wireless networks, and result in decrease of network throughput. Signal interference is an inevitable problem because of the broadcast nature of wireless transmissions. However it could be optimized by reducing signal coverage of wireless devices. On the other hand, smaller signal coverage also means lower transmission power and lower data throughput. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the relationship among signal strength, coverage and interference of Wi-Fi networks, and as a tradeoff between transmission power and data throughput, we propose a range-aware Wi-Fi network scheme which controls transmission power according to positions and RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indication) of Wi-Fi devices and analyze the efficiency of the proposed scheme by simulation.
