  • This paper describes the development process of high stiffness body for ride and handling performance. High stiffness and light weight vehicle is a major target in the refinement of passenger cars to meet customers' contradictable requirements between ride and handling performance and fuel economy. This paper describes the analysis approach process for high stiffness body through the data level of body stiffness. According to the frequency band, we can suggest the design guideline about Is cornering static stiffness, torsional and lateral stiffness, body attachment stiffness. The ride and handling characteristic of a vehicle is significantly affected by vibration transferred to the body through the chassis mounting points from front and rear suspension. It is known that body attachment stiffness is an important factor of ride and handling performance improvement. And high stiffness helps to improve the flexibility of bushing rate tuning between Handling and road noise. It makes it possible to design the good handling performance vehicle at initial design stage and save vehicles to be used in tests by using mother car at initial design stage. These improvements can lead to shortening the time needed to develop better vehicles.

  • Active stabilizers use signals such as steering angle, yaw rate, and lateral acceleration to vary the roll stiffness of the front and rear suspension depending on the vehicle's driving conditions, and are attracting attention as RSC (Roll Stability Control) system that suppresses roll when turning and improves ride comfort when going straight. Various studies have been conducted in relation to active stabilizer bars and RSC systems. However, accurate modeling of passive stabilizer model and active stabilizer model and vehicle dynamics analysis result verification are insufficient, and performance result analysis related to vehicle roll angle estimation and electric motor control is insufficient. Therefore, in this study, an accurate vehicle dynamics model was constructed by measuring the passive/active stabilizer bar model and component parameters. Based on this, the analysis result with high reliability was derived by comparing the roll angle estimation algorithm based on the lateral acceleration and suspension of the vehicle with the actual vehicle driving test result. In addition, it was intended to accurately analyze the motor torque characteristics and roll reduction effects of the electric motor-driven RSC system.

  • In this paper, resonance durability analysis is performed for the fatigue life assessment considering vibration effect of a vehicle system. In the resonance durability analysis, the frequency response and the dynamic load on frequency domain are used. Multi-body dynamic analysis, finite element analysis, and fatigue life prediction method are applied for the virtual durability assessment. To obtain the frequency response and the dynamic load history, the computer simulations running over typical pothole and Belgian road are carried out by utilizing vehicle dynamic model. The durability estimations on the rear suspension system of the passenger car are performed by using the resonance durability analysis technique and compared with the quasi-static durability analysis. The study shows that the fatigue life considering resonant frequency of vehicle system can be effectively estimated in early design stage.

  • A torsional vibration at driveline happens seriously at rapid vehicle acceleration. The torsional vibration at driveline can be reduced by optimization of joint angle and yoke phase angle of driveline. But, the joint angle of driveline is changed according to vehicle driving condition as acceleration, deceleration, forward and backward driving, so that excessive vibration is transmitted to vehicle body at specific driving condition. Especially under rapid acceleration condition, vibration transmitted to body could be maximized because excitation force at rapid acceleration is bigger than that at normal driving condition due to changed joint angle. The torsional vibration of driveline can be kept at low level by controlling suspension parameter to minimize rigid axle displacement as well as optimizing joint angles considering the vehicle acceleration condition.

  • Stress analysis and fatigue life on shock absorber are investigated in this study. The lower part of spring is shown with the maximum equivalent stress and displacement of 153.49MPa and 26.151mm. The rear part is also shown with the number of fatigue life less than $6.8241{\times}10^5$. And the middle part of spring is shown with the minimum safety factor of 0.94592. The designed modeling suspension in this study has no possibility with resonance. As the result of this study is applied by the chassis of automobile, the prevention on fatigue fracture and the durability is predicted.

  • Floating fixed scroll adopted for tip sealing enhancement in a scroll compressor is always under the influence of tipping moment produced by internal gas forces. Unless the tipping moment is property compensated by some restoring moment, the fired scroll would suffer tipping movement, degrading the compressor performance. The condition on which the tipping movement of the fixed scroll can be suppressed has been investigated analytically. For no tipping movement, the floating fixed scroll should be suspended on the main frame at proper level. The upper limit of the stable suspension is the axial location of the o-rings adopted for a back pressure chamber sealing on the rear side of the fixed scroll, and the lower limit is the mid-height of the scroll wrap.

  • This article deals with the transient analysis using multi-flexible body dynamics of a trailer vehicle, which is passing a bump on the flat road. In order to investigate the transient dynamic behavior of the trailer, we developed an equivalent finite element model for the trailer and a vehicle dynamic model for the truck using multi-body dynamics. The driving condition considered here is set as the trailer vehicle passes a bump on the flat road in 7km/h. And we investigate the time histories of vertical load and deflections on connecting points between the trailer and truck during the vehicle passes a bump. Due to the dynamic load resulted from the driving condition, additional stress concentrations are found in the trailer and the suspension connecting points between the trailer and rear axles along with kingpin.

  • The torsion beam axle type is widely used in the rear suspension for small passenger car because of low cost, good performance and etc. The FE and dynamic analysis using the computer are very helpful for the efficiency of the torsion beam design. First of all, the reliability on the computational model must be verified for the analysis. In this study, The FE model of the torsion beam was verified according to comparison with he test data. And after making the flexible body using the FE model, the dynamic characteristic of the tubular type torsion beam axles was compared with that of the V-beam type.

  • The vibration of a vehicle, which is caused by and transmitted from the engine, has significant effect on the ride comfort and the dynamic characteristics of the engine mount system has direct influence on the vibration and noise of the vehicle. This paper examines the body shake caused by the engine excitation force on engine key-off of a jeep by experiment and computer simulation using a general purpose mechanical system program, DADS. The computer simulation model consists of the engine, body including frame, and front and rear axles and each axle has right and left tires. The force element between body and suspension is modeled as a combination of suspension spring and damper, and the unsprung mass has roll and pitch motion. The body shake obtained from experiment was compared with the result of computer simulation. Parametric study of the body shake on engine key-off is performed with changing the stiffness of engine mount rubber, the engine mount installation angle and position of engine mounts by using the verified computer simulation model.

  • This study was performed to see ground reaction force with different soccer studs with twelve players in Human Performance Laboratory(University of Calgary). Running speed was $4.0{\pm}0.2m/sec$ in straight running as well as vcut running. By using four different kinds of shoes; three different pairs of soccer shoes and one pair of jogging shoes, I reached a conclusion as following. In case of right and left ground reaction force, on the assumption that the positive magnitude of power is inversion and the negative is eversion, vcut running did not occur any inversion, which in the aspect of kinetic mechanics, thought to be decelerating movement. Because when eversion happens, it arises component force of power on heading direction about 8.6 times more than in the movement of straight running. In case of front and rear ground reaction, on the assumption that the positive magnitude of power is suspension power and the negative is propulsion, vcut movement is thought to be decelerating movement in the aspect of kinetic mechanics. Because on heading direction, this movement occurs component force of power about 1.8 times more suspension and 2.2 more propulsion than in the straight running movement. In case of vertical ground reaction, on the assumption that the first peak is the magnitude of power in impact and the second peak is the magnitude of power in active, we judged that the straight running movement performed more efficiently than the vcut movement in the aspect of kinetic mechanics. On the next study, I suppose that vcut running would make up an interesting subject in the aspect of improving kinetic performance ability.
