Image-based ship detection using deep learning

  • Detecting objects is important for the safe operation of ships, and enables collision avoidance, risk detection, and autonomous sailing. This study proposes a ship detection method from images and videos taken at sea using one of the state-of-the-art deep neural network-based object detection algorithms. A deep learning model is trained using a public maritime dataset, and results show it can detect all types of floating objects and classify them into ten specific classes that include a ship, speedboat, and buoy. The proposed deep learning model is compared to a universal trained model that detects and classifies objects into general classes, such as a person, dog, car, and boat, and results show that the proposed model outperforms the other in the detection of maritime objects. Different deep neural network structures are then compared to obtain the best detection performance. The proposed model also shows a real-time detection speed of approximately 30 frames per second. Hence, it is expected that the proposed model can be used to detect maritime objects and reduce risks while at sea.

  • Tourism and hospitality have encountered significant changes in recent years as a result of the rapid development of information technology (IT). Customers now expect more expedient services and customized travel experiences, which has intensified competition among service providers. To meet these demands, businesses have adopted sophisticated IT applications such as ChatGPT, which enables real-time interaction with consumers and provides recommendations based on their preferences. This paper focuses on the AI support-prompt middleware system, which functions as a mediator between generative AI and human users, and discusses two operational rules associated with it. The first rule is the Information Processing Rule, which requires the middleware system to determine appropriate responses based on the context of the conversation using techniques for natural language processing. The second rule is the Information Presentation Rule, which requires the middleware system to choose an appropriate language style and conversational attitude based on the gravity of the topic or the conversational context. These rules are essential for guaranteeing that the middleware system can fathom user intent and respond appropriately in various conversational contexts. This study contributes to the planning and analysis of service design by deriving design rules for middleware systems to incorporate artificial intelligence into tourism services. By comprehending the operation of AI support-prompt middleware systems, service providers can design more effective and efficient AI-driven tourism services, thereby improving the customer experience and obtaining a market advantage.

A Study on Message Set of VMS on Express way and Evaluation of Driver's Preference (고속도로 VMS Message Set 연구 및 이용자 선호도 평가)

  • VMS(Variable Message Sign) which makes the traffic flow smooth by providing traffic information to road users in real-time has been being installed or operated on the road as part of the detailed ITS system. However, some problems were found as a result of survey on express way currently. In the part of the phase operation, the message interpretation time wasn't defined so that the phase operation was difficult. In the part of the information service, not considering characteristic of the VMS section caused the confusion to drivers. In the part of the message exposure, font, alignment, conversion and composition of the information were not consistent and use of superfluous words and inconsistent use of word having the same meaning brought about the problem on information communication This study established the detailed exposure method based on instructions relative to VMS operation. The method established by defining the number of appropriate phase and setting required function of each individual VMS installation location. The method is as follow. the font type is the GULIM, the message conversion method is simple conversion method, the alignment method is centering alignment method and the color is defined according to each situation. In this study, the preference survey was performed to review the validity of the proposed improvement through the common driver. The results were similar with the pre-study except for the font type. This study established the detailed exposure method based on instructions relative to VMS operation. The method established by defining the number of appropriate phase and setting required function of individual VMS installation location. For the evaluation of status and improvement, preference survey of ordinary drivers and statistics analysis was carried.

  • The current healthcare information systems field to meet the growing demand for healthcare for a variety of building systems and operation, and subsequent information on the budget continues to increase, but the current system, although the association link between the various systems made does not, with organizations with information about each of the standardization and real-time network status data do not consist of various materials, such as insufficient to provide real-time issues have been raised. This paper proposes a Integrated information system on Healthcare based on JXTA to solve problems mentioned above. Until now, in a network environment for data storage and management is the most widely used server-intensive structure, while an increase in users and traffic difficulties in data management and communications services to handle the growing number of servers increase faster than information associated with the cost savings, P2P model in terms of efficient data management has emerged as a new solution. Therefore this paper designs a platform for Integrated information system on Healthcare based on JXTA as a method to integrate health information data and services, and then proves that the new information system on healthcare based on JXTA is the suitable model.

  • Earth's environment issues are introduced recently and every year the social loss have been occurred by the impact of various disaster. This kind of disaster and weather problems are the increasing reason of electricity transmission network equipment's failures because of exposing by the natural environment. The emergency and abnormal status of electricity equipment make the power outage of manufacturing plant and discomfort of people's lives. So, to protect the electricity equipment from the natural disasters and to supply the power to customer as stable, the supporting systems are required. In this paper, the research results are described the development process and the outcomes of the real-time natural disaster failure analysis information system including the describing about the impact of disaster and weather change, making the natural weather information, and linking the realtime monitoring system. As of development process, according to application development methodology, techniques are enumerated including the real time interface with related systems, the analysing the geographic information on the digital map using GIS application technology to extract the malfunction equipment potentially and to manage the equipments efficiently. Through this system makes remarkable performance it minimize the failures of the equipments, the increasing the efficiency of the equipment operation, the support of scientific information related on the mid-term enhancement plan, the savings on equipment investment, the quality upgrading of electricity supply, and the various supports in the field.

  • In this paper, we present a linear scheduling method for homogeneous multiprocessor systems using genetic algorithms. In general, genetic algorithms randomly generate initial strings, which leads to long operation time and slow convergence due to an inappropriate initialization. The proposed algorithm considers communication costs among processors and generates initial strings such that successive nodes are grouped into the same cluster. In the crossover and mutation operations, the algorithm maintains linearity in scheduling by associating a node with its immediate successor or predecessor. Linear scheduling can fully utilize the inherent parallelism of a given program and has been proven to be superior to nonlinear scheduling on a coarse grain DAG (directed acyclic graph). This paper emphasizes the usability of the genetic algorithm for real-time applications. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm rapidly converges within 50 generations in most DAGs.

  • Knowledge, as a source of firm's competitive edges, has been drawing attention, while numerous enterprises are investing huge amount of assets to foster the right environments for executing knowledge management (KM). As a practical way of such KM, knowledge management systems (KMS) support the creation, diffusion, and utilization of knowledge, which are the tools for practicing such management style. Recently, the customer centers which make the closest contact with the customers are being concerned about the establishment of KMS. Considering the characteristics of real-time problem solving in customer centers during the consultation with the customers, the importance of KMS is paramount to the centers. This study analyzes major factors influencing the success and utilization of the customer center KMS's reestablishment, as an exploratory case study of the reestablishment of KMS in the customer center of K insurance company. First, the characteristic differences between the customer center's KMS and the traditional KMS are discussed, and the triangulation technique is applied to secure objectivity of this case study's findings. Major results of the case study state that, for the success of KMS and improvement of utilization, the followings should be considered preferentially: excellent system quality (accessibility, user convenience, easy searching, speed/menus); high information quality (accuracy, usefulness, timeliness, task-relevance, diversity, degree of specification); appropriate operation strategy and process for the utilization of system (education, training opportunity, appropriate personnel, speed and procedure of approval, compensation/evaluation); and change management via the support from the CEO's level (concern and participation of CEO, will to propel the project, investment, advertisement, etc.). This study provides practical suggestions with respect to factors which should be more carefully dealt with, since still many customer centers have hard time establishing and operating KMS due to lack of previous studies.

A Recovery Scheme of SSD-based Databases using Snapshot Log (스냅샷 로그를 사용한 SSD 기반 데이터베이스 복구 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a new logging and recovery scheme that is suited for the high-performance transaction processing system base on flash memory storage. The proposed scheme is designed by considering flash's I/O characteristic of asymmetric costs between page update/read operations. That is, we substitute the costly update operation with writing and real-time usage of snapshot log, which is for the page-level physical redo. From this, we can avoid costly rewriting of a dirty page when it is evicted form a buffering pool. while supporting efficient revery procedure. The proposed scheme would be not lucrative in the case of HDD-based system. However, the proposed scheme offers the performance advance sush as a reduced number of updates and the fast system recovery time, in the case of flash storage such as SSD (solid state drive). Because the proposed scheme can easily be applied to existing systems by saving our snapshot records and ordinary log records together, our scheme can be used for improving the performance of upcoming SSD-based database systems through a tiny modification to existing REDO algorithms.

Effects of an Angle Droop Controller on the Performance of Distributed Generation Units with Load Uncertainty and Nonlinearity

  • The present study proposes an angle droop controller for converter interfaced (dispatchable) distributed generation (DG) resources in the islanded mode of operation. Due to the necessity of proper real and reactive power sharing between different types of resources in microgrids and the ability of systems to respond properly to abnormal conditions (sudden load changes, load uncertainty, load current disturbances, transient conditions, etc.), it is necessary to produce appropriate references for all of the mentioned above conditions. The proposed control strategy utilizes a current controller in addition to an angle droop controller in the discrete time domain to generate appropriate responses under transient conditions. Furthermore, to reduce the harmonics caused by switching at converters' output, a LCL filter is used. In addition, a comparison is done on the effects that LCL filters and L filters have on the performance of DG units. The performance of the proposed control strategy is demonstrated for multi islanded grids with various types of loads and conditions through simulation studies in the DigSilent Power Factory software environment.

  • Power system frequency is the main index of power quality indicating an abnormal state and disturbances of systems. The nominal frequency is deviated by sudden change in generation and load or faults. Power system is used as frequency relay to detection for off-nominal frequency operation and connecting a generator to an electrical system, and V/F relay to detection for an over-excitation condition. Under these circumstances, power system should maintain the nominal frequency. And frequency and frequency deviation should accurately measure and quickly estimate by frequency measurement device. The well-known classical method, frequency estimation technique based on the DFT, could be produce the gain error in accuracy. To meet the requirements for high accuracy, recently Wavelet transforms and analysis are receiving new attention. The Wavelet analysis is possible to calculate the time-frequency analysis which is easy to obtain frequency information of signals. However, it is difficult to apply in real-time implementation because of heavy computation burdens. Nowadays, the computational methods using the Wavelet function and transformation techniques have been searched on these fields. In this paper, we apply the Recursive Discrete Wavelet Transform (RDWT) for the frequency estimation. In order to evaluate performance of the proposed technique, the user-defined arbitrary waveforms are used.
