HUMAN-IN-THE-LOOP EVALUATION OF A VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROLLER USING A VEHICLE SIMULATOR

  • This paper presents a closed-loop evaluation of the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system using a vehicle simulator. Human driver-VSC interactions have been investigated under realistic operating conditions in the laboratory. Braking control inputs for vehicle stability enhancement have been directly derived from the sliding control law based on vehicle planar motion equations with differential braking. A driving simulator has been validated using actual vehicle driving test data. Real-time human-in-the loop simulation results in realistic driving situations have shown that the proposed controller reduces driving effort and enhances vehicle stability.

  • A real-time vehicle simulation system is a key element of a driving simulator because accurate prediction of vehicle motion with respect to driver input is required to generate realistic visual, motion, sound and proprioceptive cues.   • In this paper the principles and structure of a WTS (Wind Turbine Simulator) are described. The proposed WTS is a versatile system specially designed for the purpose of developing and testing new control strategies for wind energy conversion systems. The simulator includes two sub-systems; a torque controller which controls a 3-phase induction motor in order to simulate the wind turbine and wind speed generator which can simulate an actual wind speed. In order to make the proposed system working in real-time, two sub-systems are incorporated into one simulink block by using Real-time workshop. The performance of the proposed system is verified by considering various wind speeds.

  • The spacecraft simulator is used for command validation, operational check of the Satellite Operation Subsystem (SOS), spacecraft anomaly analysis support, satellite operator training etc. In this paper, S/W design features and modeling characteristics of the KOMPSAT Spacecraft Simulator Subsystem (SIM) are described. Validation procedures and simulation results are also provided. The SIM provides extensive simulation capabilities by including models for most of the spacecraft subsystems. The software structure of the SIM was designed and implemented so as to support operations not only in real-time but also in non real-time by utilizing the Hewlett Packard (HP) UNIX functions. The SIM incorporates as many user-friendly Man Machine Interface (MMI) windows as possible so that all the SIM normal operations can be executed through the MMI windows.

  • The PMGS(Plant Model Generating System) was developed based on modular modeling method and fluid network calculation concept. Fluid network calculation is used as a method of real-time computation of fluid network, and the module which has a topology with node and branch is defined to take advantages of modular modeling. Also, the database which have a shared memory as an instance is designed to manage simulation data in real-time. The applicability of the PMGS was examined implementing the HRSG(Heat Recovery Steam Generator) control logic on DCS.

  • Digital relays have numerous advantages over traditional analog relays, such as the ability to accomplish what is difficult or impossible using analog relays. This paper presents the protective relay modeling of generator using Real Time Digital Simulator(RTDS). The developed model is applied to the test system and the simulation results are evident that they performs satisfactory.

  • To improve the safety and productivity of continuous processes, it is becoming increasingly necessary to have simulators to train operators. This paper describes a real-time simulator developed for this purpose by Yokogawa in cooperation with the Tokyo Gas Company. This simulator - based on the YEWCOM computer - not only trains operators, but also evaluates their proficiency.

  • This paper presents the road simulator control technology for reproducing the road input signal to implement the real road data. The simulator consists of the hydraulic pump, servo valve, hydraulic actuator and its control equipment. The QFT is utilized to control the simulator effectively. The control system illustrates a tracking performance of the closed-loop controller with low order transfer function G(s) and pre-filter F(s) for a parametric uncertain model. A force controller is designed to communicate the control signal between simulator and digital controller. The efficacy of the QFT force controller is verified through the numerical simulation, in which combined dynamics and actuation of the hydraulic servo system are tested. The simulation results show that the proposed control technique works well under uncertain hydraulic plant system. The conventional software (Labview) is used to make up for the real controller in the real-time basis, and the experimental works show that the proposed algorithm works well for a single road simulator.

  • In this research, we report on the development of simulation system for performance verification of BMS(Battery Management System) which is utilized in electric vehicles. In the industrial circles, a manufacturer of BMS typically tests their system with real battery packs. However, it takes a long time to test all functions of BMS. Here, we develop BMU(Battery Managament Unit) as an embedded board, which will be installed in electric vehicle for controlling battery packs. All other environment factors for testing BMU are developed in softwares in order to reduce the term of test. Especially, the proposed system consists of cell simulator and CMU(Cell Management Unit) simulator which simulate real battery cells and control battery cells. These simulators enable the BMU to test more battery cells. In addition, proposed system provides diagnosis program in order to diagnose and monitor the condition of BMS which makes the test of BMS more easily. In order to verify the performance of the developed simulator, we have performed the experiment with real battery packs and our simulator. Through comparing two results of experiments, we verify that developed simulator shows better performance in terms of less amount of testing duration though having high reliability.
