공공도서관 아동열람실의 공간구성 및 가구특성 분석 (Analyses on Spatial Compositions and Furniture Characteristics of Children's Reading Rooms in Public Libraries)

  • This study examines the spatial compositions of children's reading rooms, furniture characteristics, and users' satisfaction levels for the furniture in public libraries. Field measurements and surveys were performed in 5 public libraries. Results imply that the spatial compositions of reading rooms in libraries were classified into three categories according to the locations of bookshelves and reading space. Management areas should not be located at the edge of reading rooms but be located at the center of reading rooms to avoid clerks' narrow viewing angle toward young kids and to ensure security for the kids. The evaluation for bookshelves according to evaluation checklists was acceptable, but users were not always satisfied with the bookshelves due to the inappropriate positions of books in shelves. The evaluation for desks was generally acceptable according to the checklists and users were satisfied with them. In general, the desk with higher scores by the checklist provided better satisfaction to users. However, the score by checklist for chair and user satisfaction were not always similar each other. Convenience areas in reading rooms were not enough compared to bookshelf, reading and management area. Computer tables that were designed in a way that users sit down and use the computers were highly preferred.

전공특성에 따른 대학도서관 주제자료실의 이용태도 및 공간 계획에 관한 연구 (A Study on Usage and Space Planning in Subject Specialization of University Library for Major)

  • This study was conducted under the premise that the university library's subject specialization room is in need of major modifications in order to accommodate the needs of various majors. The subject specialization room will be able to support university library users who are inclined to use the general reading room. Therefore, the study presents spatial planning for the average university library's subject specialization room by taking into account student majors. This could be a guideline for the construction and renovation of university libraries in the future. The summary of results for this study and the conclusions are as follows: 1)Natural sciences subject specialization room should be, partially connected with the humanities/social science subject specialization room in order to provide an open-concept reference room. In the shared area connecting the two subject specialization rooms needs to be installed a staff counter and subject specialist librarian service booth for users of both subject specialization rooms. 2)For humanities/social sciences subject specialization room, partially connect with the natural sciences subject specialization room. In the connecting area between the two rooms, plan an open-concept lounge for resting and reading. 3)It is best to plan subject specialization room for art/music/physical education majors separate from the subject specification room of other majors. Structurally separate art/music/physical education major subject specialization rooms from the building or plan a separate room in an art/music/physical education building. Users of art/music/physical education majors showed a high preference for a spatially separated and specialized library structure, which proves that an art/music/physical education library need to be planed based on the specialized library structure found in law school libraries or medical school libraries. Plan the center of the room with open-concept based reading room. Use wall-sides, partitions, or shelves to create reading space separate from the shelving area.

Information and Communication Technologies for Smart Water Grid Applications

  • The use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is the key to operate a change from the traditional manual reading of water meters and sensors to an automated system where high frequency data is remotely collected and analyzed in real time, one of the main components of a Smart Water Grid. The recent boom of ICT offers a wide range of both wired and wireless technologies to achieve this objective. We review and present in this article the most widely recognized technologies and protocols along with their respective advantages, drawbacks and applicability range which can be Home Area Network (HAN), Building Area Network (BAN) or Local/Neighborhood Area Network (LAN/NAN). We also present our findings and we give recommendations on the application of ICT in Smart Water Grids and future work needed.

Proposal of Camera Gesture Recognition System Using Motion Recognition Algorithm

  • This paper is about motion gesture recognition system, and proposes the following improvement to the flaws of the current system: a motion gesture recognition system and such algorithm that uses the video image of the entire hand and reading its motion gesture to advance the accuracy of recognition. The motion gesture recognition system includes, an image capturing unit that captures and obtains the images of the area applicable for gesture reading, a motion extraction unit that extracts the motion area of the image, and a hand gesture recognition unit that read the motion gestures of the extracted area. The proposed application of the motion gesture algorithm achieves 20% improvement compared to that of the current system.

공공도서관 공간규모계획기준에 관한 기초적 연구 - 공공도서관건립 컨설팅지원사업 결과를 중심으로 - (A Basic Study on the Planning Standard of Space Size for Public Library - Focus on the result of the consulting support project for construction of public library -)

  • In this era of information, the public library takes a important role in the local community. In several years, public libraries have been proliferated in our society. However, there have not been specific planning standards of space size for construction of public library. The situation has lead the local governments to the need of consulting for the construction and management of library in search of appropriate guideline. The research paper focuses on the result of consulting support project for construction and management of public library. It examines total 11 libraries which were consulted from 2009 to 2011. It examines the configurational differences between the first scheme from the local government and the final scheme after the consulting, and the percentages of gross areas of each parts of library, reference and reading area, office area, education and cultural area, and public common use area. The analysis concludes that reference and reading area increased by 6.4% from 34.1% to 40.5%, and public common use area reduced by 6.1% from 30.2% to 24.1%, which represents a certain tendency of the configuration ratio of the each parts. Thus, the paper could be a starting point of establishing planning standard of space size for public library.

농작업에서 안전보건정보 표시의 농업인 이해도 조사 연구 (A Questionnaire Survey about the Degree of Understanding of the Safety and Health Information by Agricultural Workers)

  • This study surveyed the reading discomforts and the reasons for discomfortable reading of the safety and health information (texts and icons) presented on the agricultural vehicles/machines, pesticides, fertilizers, and feeds. Eighty seven people residing in rural area participated in the survey interview. Questionnaire survey showed that the most discomfortable product in reading the texts was pesticides. Forty three (49%) among participants had very-discomfortable or discomfortable in reading the texts used in the label of pesticides, and the main reason for the discomfort was small text size. The reading discomforts in reading the texts (varied from 4 point to 19 point and presented in 50 cm reading distance) showed different pattern according to the age groups. Three age groups (50s, 60s and older than 70s) showed a similar discomfort pattern, but different from the group of 30s and 40s. Forty four people (51%) had a problem in understanding the meaning of the icons and the main reasons were the small size and the difficulty in inferring the meaning of the icons. Thus, the more detailed and practical guidelines for the presentation format, particularly about the text heights and the size of icons, are required. Also, more comprehensive research is needed to investigate the readability and legibility of texts and icons.

독서수준과 학습만화 이용행태가 학습능력에 미치는 영향 - 초등학교 고학년 학생을 중심으로 - (The Impact of Educational Comic Book Reading Behavior and Reading Levels on the Students' Learning Competencies: For Higher Grades Students in Elementary Schools)

  • 본 연구는 독서수준에 따른 단계별 학습만화 이용행태가 학습능력에 미치는 영향에 대해 독서수준이 다양한 학생들을 대상으로 질적 연구방법을 통해 조사 분석하였다. 학생들은 학습만화 반복읽기 과정에서 독서수준에 따라 동일주제의 단계별 학습만화를 이용하는 행태를 보였다. 이러한 학습만화 이용행태는 관련 주제의 일반도서 읽기로의 전이를 돕고, 학습만화가 교과단원의 이해를 위한 참고서 역할을 함으로써 학습능력에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 학습만화를 이용한 자기주도적 학습법과 학습만화 읽기 개선을 통한 효율적인 독서지도안이 개발되기를 기대한다.

펜학습기의 도트 패턴 인식을 위한 새로운 알고리즘 (A Novel Algorithm for Dot Pattern Recognition with Reading Pen)

  • 펜학습기는 교육 분야에서 주로 사용되며 급격히 성장하고 있는 기기로 종이 위에 인쇄된 미세한 도트패턴을 식별하여 코드로 변환한 후 코드와 매칭되는 음원을 실시간으로 재생한다. 입력된 도트패턴 영상을 코드로 변환하는 것이 펜학습기에서 가장 중요한 기능이므로 본 논문에서는 이 부분에 초점을 맞추어 알고리즘을 고안하였다. 해당 기술에 대한 알고리즘은 기존에 전혀 공개된 바 없으며 본 논문은 이러한 문제를 해결하려는 최초의 공개적인 시도이다. 실제 환경에서 성능을 평가한 결과 85% 패턴 인식률을 확인하였다.

광류와 조음 발성 특성을 이용한 립리딩 알고리즘 (A Lip-reading Algorithm Using Optical Flow and Properties of Articulatory Phonation)

  • Language is an essential tool for verbal and emotional communication among human beings, enabling them to engage in social interactions. Although a majority of hearing-impaired people can speak; however, they are unable to receive feedback on their pronunciation most of them can speak. However, they do not receive feedback on their pronunciation. This results in impaired communication owing to incorrect pronunciation, which causes difficulties in their social interactions. If hearing-impaired people could receive continuous feedback on their pronunciation and phonation through lip-reading training, they could communicate more effectively with people without hearing disabilities, anytime and anywhere, without the use of sign language. In this study, the mouth area is detected from videos of learners speaking monosyllabic words. The grayscale information of the detected mouth area is used to estimate a velocity vector using Optical Flow. This information is then quantified as feature values to classify vowels. Subsequently, a system is proposed that classifies monosyllables by algebraic computation of geometric feature values of lips using the characteristics of articulatory phonation. Additionally, the system provides feedback by evaluating the comparison between the information which is obtained from the sample categories and experimental results.

자기결정성 동기이론에 의한 독서동기 측정도구 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Measurement Tool Development of Reading Motivation Using Self-determination Theory)

  • 이 연구는 자기결정성 동기이론을 적용하여 독서동기를 측정할 수 있는 도구를 제안하는데 목적이 있다. 자기결정성 이론은 단순히 내적 동기와 외적 동기로 양분하지 않고, 개개인의 자율성 혹은 결정성에 따라서 무동기, 외적 조절, 주입된 조절, 동일시 조절, 통합된 조절, 내재적 동기 등 6가지로 구분하였다. 자기결정성 동기이론은 동기 유형을 세분화하여 다양한 외재적 동기를 어떻게 내면화할 것인가에 중점을 둔다. 이에 본 연구에서는 MRQ, MRP, ERAS, RSCS와 같은 기존의 독서동기 관련 측정도구를 분석하고, 이를 자기결정성원리에 의한 6개 범주로 재분류한 후, 이를 바탕으로 자기결정성이론에 의한 독서동기 측정도구를 개발하였다. 본 연구에서 제안하고자 하는 독서동기 측정도구는 자기결정성의 원리에 의거 6개 영역 30문항으로 구성되어 있다.
