The purpose of this study is to investigate how storytelling is embodied in the Mathematics I textbooks for first grade high school students in the 2009 revised curriculum and the perception of secondary math teachers and students of those books. Furthermore, in order to have some implications on newly ongoing textbook development, this thesis sets up the following goals for inquiry into the effect on storytelling. First, are there any noticeable differences among the 10 types of mathematics I textbooks for high school first graders in the 2009 revised curriculum? Second, what do teachers and students think of textbooks which apply storytelling techniques? The results are as follows. The frequency of storytelling types that appeared in the textbooks is as follows: real-life connection type and inter-scholarship type take up 47.55% and 24.51% respectively, followed by decision-making type with 10.52%, math history type with 10.17% and tool-using type with 7.05%. Within the contents, math history type showed up on reading material from every textbook. And it is worth considering that real-life-connection type has the most various topics and is mainly for arousing interest and checking up on some concepts. However, inter-scholarship type is usually related to science, and decision-making type is included for error analysis and tool-using type for reading materials about math programs. The results of this study suggest that many of the teachers who participated showed some kind of understanding of storytelling but there were not many who are actually incorporating that into their own classes. It is also essential that we develop textbooks that are effective for storytelling classes, hold regular symposiums as well as teacher training, and create tools for proper assessment. Furthermore, students think that textbooks based on storytelling would have positive effects as long as they are supported by enough time, a sufficient number of classes and tests with validity.

Peer assessment refers to having students, rather than the instructor, make assessments of one another's work. Peer assessment is often used as a tool to train writing skills or a tool to apply or extend learning in higher education. Park(2016) recently proposed a system which utilizes peer assessment as a part of preparatory activity for college courses. Before weekly class, students studied given material on their own, wrote a one page essay on a given question based on their reading, and assessed the essays of other students. In this study, the system was implemented in undergraduate courses at S University over 2 semesters and the results were analyzed. The reliability of weekly scores given by students was not very high, but the correlation was high between the cumulative scores given by students across weeks and the scores of the end of the term paper assessed by the instructor. Based on these findings, the possibility of utilizing the results of the peer assessments as part of the final grades was discussed.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of general use of English literary works. It will be helpful for both general English learners and college students majoring English Education in ESL or EFL context. English literature is very useful pedagogical tool in the language class due to its unique valuable characteristics including authenticity, cultural and linguistic value, and personal enrichment, which impact on fostering English ability of EFL students. For this reason, it is unavoidable to develop a theory and practice regarding using English literature as an educational resource for college students in Korea. In this study several considerations will be discussed in terms of selection of the literary works to be applied for language learning purpose in the classrooms of universities in Korea. Such attentions will include fours skills of English such as reading, writing, listening and speaking. Finally, some effects and implications of using literary text as a pedagogical tool in the EFL language classrooms will be discussed.

Relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of particle beam needs to be evaluated at particle beam therapy centers before the clinical application of the particle beam. However, since RBE analysis is implemented manually, it is useful to have a tool that can easily and effectively handle the data of experiments to generate cell survival curve and to analyze RBE simultaneously. In this work, the development of a program for RBE analysis of particle beam therapy was presented. This RBE analysis program was developed to include two parts; fitting the cell survival curves to linear-quadratic model and calculating the RBE values at a certain endpoint using fitting results. This program was also developed to simultaneously compare and analyze the template results that stored experiment data with photon and particle beam irradiations. The results of the cell survival curve obtained by each irradiation can be analyzed by the user on a desired data after reading the template stored in the easy-to-use excel file. The analysis results include the cell survival curves with error range, which are appeared in the screen and the ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ parameters of linear-quadratic model with 95% confidence intervals, RBE values, and $R^2$ values to evaluate goodness-of-fit of survival curves to model, which are stored in a text cvs file. This software can generate cell survival curve, fit to model, and calculate RBE all at once with raw experiment data, so it helps users to save time for data handling and to reduce the possibility of making error on analysis. As a coming plan, we will create a user-friendly graphical user interface to present the results more intuitively.

The main purpose of (the) performing arts is to efficiently communicate the themes and meanings which performances contain under limited time and place to the audience. Stage design should visually express play writer's scripts and director's interpretations of works, amid limitations. Although it is mostly designed metaphorically, in many cases, it is used only as a tool describing the background of performances but fails to effectively convey the true message of scenes to spectators. On the other hand, Bob Crowley has been recognized for his own design presentation skills to win 'Best Scenic Design of a Musical' of Tony Awards for six times and still exerts great influence on the musical and performing arts fields as a set designer. This study analyzes his reading of scripts and visual metaphor expressions, focusing on the musical, 'Aida' where the skills are mostly notable. To that end, we studied the concept of stage arts and theory of visual metaphoric expression to derive the features of his own technique in visual metaphor. Then, the features were applied to each scene of 'Aida' to see how they are displayed on stage. The result shows that Bob Crowley not only describes the background on stage, but also visualizes characters' personality and emotions in scenes. Such method of his expression is a proof to enhanced performance level by maximizing the atmosphere. Considering that a stage design should be based on the capacity of a designer to reinterpret the space with renewed viewpoints, visual metaphoric expression can serve as an effective tool to deliver clear messages to the audience under limited time and space, which is open to various methods of expressions.

The purpose of this study is to define the concept of media information literacy and to develop educational content. To achieve the purpose of the study, literature analysis, interviews with field experts, and surveys with teacher librarians were conducted. The field experts recognized the media as a tool to use information and recognized information problem-solving skills, reading comprehension ability, media functions, case activities, and affective domain as the areas of media information literacy education. The teacher-librarians thought that information and media literacy which include its competency and educational content are more important than the digital literacy. As a result of the study, the concept of media information literacy was defined as knowledge, skills, and attitudes including the concepts of literacy, media literacy, information literacy, and digital literacy. In addition, educational contents of media information literacy were developed so that 'participation in democratic society', 'classification of media tools and contents', 'basic human rights', 'skills', 'digital tool manipulation' and 'information problem solving process' can be combined and applied in context.

Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) have wide application area. They are of vital importance at process plants to detect the onset of hazardous events, for instance, a release of some hazardous material, and for mitigating their consequences to humans, material assets, and the environment. The integrated safety systems, where electrical, electronic, and/or programmable electronic (E/E/PE) devices interact with mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems are governed by international safety standards like IEC 61508. IEC 61508 organises its requirements according to a Safety Life Cycle (SLC). Fulfilling these requirements following the SLC can be complex without the aid of SIS supporting tools. This paper presents simple SIS support tool which can greatly help the user to implement the design phase of the safety lifecycle. This tool is modelled in the form of Android application which can be integrated with a Web-based data reading and modifying system. This tool can reduce the computation time spent on the design phase of the SLC and reduce the possible errors which can arise in the process. In addition, this paper presents an optimization approach to SISs based on cost measures. The multi-objective genetic algorithm has been used for the optimization to search for the best combinations of solutions without enumeration of all the solution space.

User education in academic libraries can be traced back to the beginning of the education for librarianship in late 19th century. Since then, perspectives in library user education and the perceptions of researchers and practitioners have changed due to new technologies. Recent literature in this field illustrates wide variety of concerns and issues of user education in academic libraries. This paper attempts to highlight such issues and perceptions regrading the subject. It suggests that some fundamental features of LIS education require attention. Suggestions are outlined along with the strong recommendations in terms of the importance of critical thinking and reading, user education as a tool of library promotion, and the politics of academic library user education.

The strategy through visual sense is one of the ways that subject builds the outside world and communicates. The visual sense seems higher level of dependence than the other senses and contributes to intercommunication. For this reason, the desire of image dates back to primitive art and visual image(visual media and visual culture) has dialectically developed in the history of mankind. Visual subject, based on perspective of Renaissance, was moved from God to human beings. Andre Bazin's 'la genese automatique' through technical art has epochally changed the paradigm of visual art and visual culture. From primitive art to photo and film, the image, based on visual sense, has reflected human wish, appealed visual desire and led to evolution of image. In the late 20 century, without dialectical evolution of technology and culture, rapidly progressive digital image has changed social and cultural implication over rational strategy of production and distribution and it strengthened authority of image through visual approach of endless desire. The goal of this study is to analyze the value change of digital image developing a new Renaissance through production, reading, communication, and implication of evolution due to digitalized image, which has evolved as object and tool of desire.

There are lots of sexual images in the contemporary media, and this is due to many of the media formats, such as television, magazines, and the Internet, using these images to relay various messages to the people. The media uses these sexual images (i.e. woman in a bikini) in order to use sex and eroticism as a marketing tool to the audience. Unlike other men's magazines, which actually have many female readers, Maxim magazine's readers are made of mostly men, and because of this, their magazine covers are usually filled with sexy women celebrities, such as singers or actors; images that can attract the general men. This study puts its focus on evaluating Maxim magazine's marketing strategy. The strategy of targeting men in their 20's and 30's, who were not interested in reading, but were impulsive and visually oriented. The study looked at magazine covers from November 2002 (the start of the magazine) to October 2008 (the peak period of its sales), and a total of 72 images were analyzed. For each image, 5 things were recorded (model's occupation, clothing style, hairstyle, makeup, pose and gaze).
