  • NAND flash memory is used as a medium for various storage devices due to its high data processing speed with low power consumption. However, since the read processing speed of data is about 10 times faster than the write processing speed, various studies are being conducted to improve the speed difference. In particular, flash dedicated buffer management policies have been studied to improve write speed. However, SSD(solid state disks), which has recently been used for various purposes, is more vulnerable to read performance than write performance. In this paper, we find out why read performance is slower than write performance in SSD composed of NAND flash memory and study buffer management policies to improve it. The buffer management policy proposed in this paper proposes a method of improving the speed of a flash-based storage device by analyzing the pattern of read data and applying a policy of pre-reading data to be requested in the future from NAND flash memory. It also proves the effectiveness of the read-ahead policy through simulation.

  • The colony education policy of Japanese Empire was, as a su n.0, ppression on national salvation education of Korean, on the one hand it was liquidation of Korean national spirit and other hand, it has the object to Japanizing Koreans through cramming Japanese language and its culture. During the Japanse occupation of Korea, the libraries had two roles, one was to press Korean and its culture and the other was to civilize Koreans for Japanizing. The purpose of this study is to examine the role of rural-mini libraries whether the former or the latter. From 1932 to The Chosun Governor- General Department (Chosun Chongdokboo) actively spread 'The Movement of Rural Development in Korea. At the same time there were many rural -mini libraries in Korean rural and fishing community. Under the colony of Japanese Empire, colony policy was itself very tough that Japanese Empire did their utmost ideas to win Korean culture over and Japanzing Korean with every possible pressures. Since rural-mini libraries were planned by the chosun Governor-General Department, however, were established by Korean themselves with the property of local education center( Hyanggyo). Therefore, rural-mini libraries were as facilities to promote rural economic development for providing Japanese with some materials which need to conduct a war, and to introduce local people to participate in civilizing activity themselves and farmers and fishermen were forced to group to be educated in Japanese language and its reading. Rural-mini libraries were, as it were, not as facilities for enlightening Korean peoples but as facilities for civilizing Koreans.

  • Terpenoids have a wide range of biological functions and have extensive applications in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and flavoring industry. The white-rot fungus, Polyporus brumalis, is able to synthesize terpenoids via terpene synthase, which catalyzes an important step that forms a large variety of sesquiterpene products from farnesyl pyrophosphate (FPP). To improve the production of sesquiterpenes, the terpene synthase gene was isolated from Polyporus brumalis and was heterologously transformed into a Pichia pastoris strain. The open reading frame of the isolated gene (approximately 1.2 kb) was inserted into Pichia pastoris to obtain a recombinant enzyme. Five transformants were obtained and the expression of terpene synthase was analyzed at the transcript level by reverse transcription PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and at the protein level by SDS-PAGE (sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis). Expression of the terpene synthase gene product was elevated in the transformants and as expected the molecular weight of the protein was approximately 45 kDa. These recombinant enzymes have potential practical applications and future studies should focus on their functional characterization.

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the level of knowledge and performances on evidence-based infection control and influencing factors on performance among nurses in intensive care unit. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was used. Two hundred thirty-nine nurses at intensive care units were conveniently recruited from seven hospitals located in Seoul and Kyounggi province. Data were collected with a questionnaire survey about evidence-based infection control. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. Results: Both level of knowledge (mean 9.15 out of 19) on preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia and central venous catheter induced bloodstream infection, and performance on evidence-based infection control (1.94 out of 4) were moderate. Performance of evidence-based practice for infection control was related to reading research articles regularly, professional satisfaction, and taken education course. Conclusion: These results indicate that systematic and organizational strategies for enhancing evidence-based infection control are needed to improve quality of intensive nursing care.

  • In this paper I discuss if we can regard Hilbert at the time of Hilbert's program as an instrumentalist. For this I first provide some textual evidences for the instrumentalist interpretation, then examine the three recent criticisms in turn. I argue that the reading Hilbert as an instrumentalist is still tenable in spite of these criticisms.

  • Many kinds of carbon emission monitoring systems or integrated systems have been developed so far. However, despite of the development of related techniques, they tend to be lack of statistic processing functions for feedback and policy-making data for users. In this study, a new CEMS (Carbon Emission Monitoring System) has been suggested and implemented in Sejong City, Korea. This system adapted automatic remote reading system from the site management agency as data hub to collect the electricity, gas and water usage of each household. The CEMS is consisted of 6 parts; carbon emission measurement, carbon emission standard setup and management, statistic analysis and the incentives. CEMS is distinguished with other systems for its UIs for users and the administrators. Also, data sharing with urban information system(UIS) of local government to produce information for users and policy-makers. This system makes it possible to investigate the change of energy consumption patterns, especially depending on the family structure and the housing characteristics. Furthermore, analyzing their correlation with carbon emission, it is expected to provide basic data used to establish urban environmental policies.
