Mobile agents have the unique ability to transport themselves from one system in a network to another. The ability to travel allows mobile agents to move to a system that contains services with which they want to interact and then to take advantage of being in the same host or network as the service. But most of conventional mobile agent systems require that the users or the programmer should give the mobile agent its detail behavioral script for accomplishing the given task. And during its runtime, such mobile agents just behave according to the fixed script given by its user. Therefore it is impossible that conventional mobile agents autonomously build their own plants and execute them in considering their ultimate goals and the dynamic world states. One way to overcome such limitations of conventional mobile agent systems is to develop an intelligent mobile agent system embedding a reactive planner. In this paper, we design both a model of agent mobility and a model of inter-agent communication based upon the representative reactive planning agent architecture called JAM. An then we develop an intelligent mobile agent system with reactive planning capability, IMAS, by implementing additional basic actions for agent moves and inter-agent communication within JAM according to the predefined models. Unlike conventional mobile agents. IMAS agents can be able to adapt their behaviors to the dynamic changes of their environments as well as build their own plans autonomously. Thus IMAS agents can show higher flexibility and robustness than the conventional ones.
Recently, there have been a lot of works trying to realize automated composition of semantic web services though application of AI planning techniques. The traditional AI planning techniques, however, have some limitations: it is not easy to represent a web service process with complex control constructs as an action or a plan; it is hardly possible to consider enough the rich information contained in domain ontologies during the planning process; it is impossible to model directly the data flow from the outputs of a web service to the inputs of another web service; it is difficult to predict and deal with uncertainty and dynamics of the environment because the plan generation phase is supposed to be separated from the plan execution phase. In order to overcome some of these limitations, this paper suggests a reactive planning approach to automated composition of semantic web services. Through some experiments using several e-commerce web services, we found that the reactive planning is an effective way to realize automated composition of semantic web services.
The UPFC is a new transmission power flow controller that has the ability to provide dynamic bus voltage control, series real power flow control and series reactive power control. With all of these versatile capabilities, it can provide transmission planner with a new tool to resolve system concerns for a wide variety of system conditions. This paper will describe UPFC system characteristics, operation status under special network systems and outline some advantageous applications. The first UPFC in Korea will be installed and operated by KEPRI and Hyosung Co.

This paper presents a method of determining the minimum amount of reactive power capacity installation and minimizing transmission line losses. It deals with maintaining voltage profile within an acceptable range with respect to the increase in load demand. Our approach provides three-different stages to power system planner. First stage considers existing capacitors. Second stage considers expanding the size of the installed capacitors. Third stage considers existing capacitors and newly installed capacitors whose locations are irrelevant to the locations of existing ones. Validity and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm are confirmed by results on modified New England 30 bus test system.

This paper describes an integrated navigation strategy for the autonomous service robot PSR. The PSR is under development at the KIST for service tasks in indoor public environments. The PSR is a multi-functional mobile-manipulator typed agent, which works in daily life. Major advantages of proposed navigation are as follows: 1) Structured control architecture for a systematic integration of various software modules. A Petri net based configuration design enables stable control flow of a robot. 2) A range sensor based generalized scheme of navigation. Any range sensor can be selectively applied using the proposed navigation scheme. 3) No need for modification of environments. (No use of artificial landmarks.) 4) Hybrid approaches combining reactive behavior as well as deliberative planner, and local grid maps as well as global topological maps. A presented experimental result shows that the proposed navigation scheme is useful for mobile service robot in practical applications.
