  • This paper presents the characteristics of large-scale fading in a tunnel environment. The Ray-Launching Method has been used to analyze the characteristics of the tunnel. For a curved tunnel, The concept of RDN (Ray Density Normalization) is introduced in order to obtain more accurate results. For our purposes, the structure of tunnel is assumed to be either a straight or curved tunnel having rectangular cross-section. A large scale fading has been presented shown in several tunnel cases.

  • In this paper, we implemented a ray-tracing simulator with a ray-launching technique and generated the propagation path of each ray in a multiple-wall indoor environment. In this simulator, we adopted two dimension ray-tracing techniques considering the reflection and penetration were dominant propagation factor in the indoor channel. From the result, we verified that this ray-tracing simulator shows the similar path pattern and delay distribution with the experiment results of the previous research. Especially, impulse responses of the ray were corresponding to reference result in non-line of sight of multiple-wall indoor environment. Furthermore, we confirmed that channel profiles having respectively different departure angle 1 degree to 7 degree were similar between them.

  • In high frequency environment such as microcell, it is requried to adopt a new method different from the empirical channel modeling applied in macrocell. In this thesis, measurement for residential area in Sinrimdong and the result of the simulation are compared and analyzed. Simulation technique utilizes 3D ray launching method to consider some factors which were not included in the ray tracing method. Propagation environment in the urban area shows the typical channel characterisitics of the propagation environment. Using 3D ray launching method, pathloss of the wave and delay characteristics of the signal with respect to the height of the transmitter is researched. If the transmitter is located on the top of the building, radiowave experiences diffraction on the rooftop and it influences the total received signal strength.

  • This paper presents a new 3-D ray tracing technique based on the image theory with newly defined ray tubes. The proposed method can be applied to indoor environments with arbitrary building layouts and has high computational efficiency compared to the precedent methods resorting to the ray launching scheme. It predictions are in good agreement with the measurements.

  • Calculation of the launch-condition dependent near field pattern, modal power distribution and far field pattern of the SGS mode scrambler by ray optical approch fits well with the experiment. These results were applied to explain how to establish the stable mode launching into the grated index multimode fiber under test by the SGS mode scrambler. The effective use of the 5G5 mode scrambler is found to restrict the launching NA as well as possible. This was also confirmed by experiment.

  • In this paper, we have developed a propagation loss prediction software with GUI (Graphic User Interface) functions, based on the geometrical ray optics model, which can predict radio parameters for the deployment of wireless indoor network. The program has two numerical modules consisted with electrical image and ray launching methods to implement UTD theory. The simulated results are compared with reported data measured in the foreign building environments for office and '一' type corridor, and measured and simulated results for the propagation loss agree with each other quite well. Simulation results for '一' type corridor and 'T' type corridor propagation environment are shown for reference.

  • Astrophysical jets play important roles in many interesting astronomical phenomena, such as star formation, gamma-ray bursts, and active galactic nuclei. The jets are thought to be driven by rotating disks through magneto-centrifugal processes. However, quantitative understanding of the jet-driving mechanism has been difficult because examples showing rotation in both disk and jet are rare. One of the important quantities in the models of jet engine is the size of the jet-launching region. The bipolar jet of the NGC 1333 IRAS 4A2 protostar shows a lateral velocity gradient, which suggests that the SiO jet is rotating around its axis. The jet rotation is consistent with the rotation of the accretion disk. The disk-jet rotation kinematics suggests that the jet-launching region on the disk, or the outflow foot-ring, has a radius of about 2 AU, which supports the disk-wind models.

  • The research deals with the prediction and the measurement of electromagnetic wave propagation in rectangular shaped tunnels at f=2.65 GHz. The received power level was measured in the straight and the curved tunnel by using a spectrum analyzer and Satellite DMB mobile phone. Thus we have gotten the data for two cases, the straight and the curved tunnel whose radius is 300m. In addition, the prediction of wave propagation was conducted based on the ray-launching method, in same tunnel where measurement was performed. A good agreement of the measured and the predicted path loss could be confirmed. The measured path loss shows a marked difference in propagation loss: the path-loss exponent, 3.21, and 3.98, for a straight and a curved tunnel, respectively. The reason that path-loss exponent is high in a curved tunnel is that there is no direct wave but only the reflected waves, which attenuates rapidly with distance due to multiple reflections. Also the predicted path loss shows path loss exeponent, 3.2 and 3.95, for a straight and a curved tunnel which are similar to the simulation results.
