  • For coronary procedures, X-ray angiogram images are useful for diagnosing and assisting procedures. It is challenging to accurately segment a coronary artery using only a single segmentation model in 2D X-ray images due to a complex structure of three-dimensional coronary artery, especially from phenomenon of vessels being broken in the middle or end of coronary artery. In order to solve these problems, the initial segmentation is performed using an existing single model, and the candidate regions for the sophisticate correction is estimated based on the initial segment, and the local patch-based correction is performed in the candidate regions. Through this research, not only the broken coronary arteries are re-connected, but also the distal part of coronary artery that is very thin is additionally correctly found. Further, the performance can be much improved by combining the proposed correction method with any existing coronary artery segmentation method. In this paper, the U-net, a fully convolutional network was chosen as a segmentation method and the proposed correction method was combined with U-net to demonstrate a significant improvement in performance through X-ray images from several patients.

  • This study aims to extract a 3D image of micro-cracks generated by hydraulic fracturing tests, using the deep learning method and X-ray computed tomography images. The pixel-level cracks are difficult to be detected via conventional image processing methods, such as global thresholding, canny edge detection, and the region growing method. Thus, the convolutional neural network-based encoder-decoder network is adapted to extract and analyze the micro-crack quantitatively. The number of training data can be acquired by dividing, rotating, and flipping images and the optimum combination for the image augmentation method is verified. Application of the optimal image augmentation method shows enhanced performance for not only the validation dataset but also the test dataset. In addition, the influence of the original number of training data to the performance of the deep learning-based neural network is confirmed, and it leads to succeed the pixel-level crack detection.

  • In the design of a portable Gamma-ray transistorized steel pipe thickness gauge, a pulse height discriminator and an anti-coincidence circuit could be eliminated by using a thin, less than 1/2inch, NaI(Tl) scintillation crystal in the detecting probe. This method could provide an economic design and fabrication of a gamma-ray back-scattering gauge allowing allmost the same accuracy and stability compared with the exsisting method. A gauge had been designed and fabricated with the above method and its accuracy was experimentall tested for the 200$^{\circ}C$ high temperature steel pipes. The result showed that the thermal drift was less than y percent which was acceptabel in the practical applications.

  • This study introduces an algorithm for determination of hypocentral parameters using phase analysis and two-point ray tracing to enhance accuracy and stability of computations. When the magnitude of earthquake is relatively small(usually $m_{b}$<3.2), the PmP phase which looks like the first arrival phase may be observed without observing the Pn phase. In this case, the hypocentral parameters calculated by the existing method using the first arrival of P and S phases and by the method developed in this study using PmP and SmS phases show large differences. The computational results of determination of hypocentral parameters for actual earthquake events show that this method gives much smaller rms errors than the existing methods do.o.

  • A method to determine the thickness of silicone resin film on zinc eletroplated steel using X-ray compton scattering was investigated. On the basis of the fact that compton scattering process predominates over photoelectric absorption for the light elements such as C, H, O and Si, the compton scattered line of RhK$_{\alpha}$ was used to determine the thickness of silicone resin. In this method, the standard calibration curve for thickness determination of silicone resin film was found to be linear in the range of 0.2~5.0 ${mu}$m film thickness. The analytical results agreed well with those obtained by the gravimetric method and the accuracy was found to be 0.22 ${mu}$m.

  • The quality of X -ray image is depending on the acquired signal pattern So far, the MTF(modulation transfer function) of medical image system has been obtained through various kinds of calculationprocesses after using SWRF (A square wave response function method) to print out it into films. In this study, a tool has been developed that can help the actual user who actually creates the medical images measure the MTF of the finaldisplay image very simply by applying Borland C++ builder software as well as LEAD tools software for the SWRF calculation process to analyze the MTF even on the display image. Films have been printed out by this newly developed MTF measuring tool under the same conditions with the ones for the existing tools and also the calculation method has shown no difference with any existing SWRF calculation method. By using this, it was found out that the MTF of the resolving power of the computed radiography(CR) Image plate (IP) that is a conventional X-ray detection system Jar the conventional X-ray purpose was about 10% at the range of 3.00 LP/mm.

  • Various morphologies of copper oxide (CuO) have been considered to be of both fundamental and practical importance in the field of electronic materials. In this study, using Cu ($0.1{\mu}m$ and $7{\mu}m$) particles, flake-type CuO particles were grown via a wet oxidation method for 5min and 60min at $75^{\circ}C$. Using the prepared CuO, AlN, and silicone base as reagents, thermal interface material (TIM) compounds were synthesized using a high speed paste mixer. The properties of the thermal compounds prepared using the CuO particles were observed by thermal conductivity and breakdown voltage measurement. Most importantly, the volume of thermal compounds created using CuO particles grown from $0.1{\mu}m$ Cu particles increased by 192.5 % and 125 % depending on the growth time. The composition of CuO was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis; cross sections of the grown CuO particles were observed using focused ion beam (FIB), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and energy dispersive analysis by X-ray (EDAX). In addition, the thermal compound dispersion of the Cu and Al elements were observed by X-ray elemental mapping.

  • A chemoinfometrical method for quantitative determination of crystal content of indomethacin (IMC) polymorphs based on fourie-transformed near-infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy was established. A direct comparison of the data with the ones collected from using the conventional powder X-ray diffraction method was performed. Pure $\alpha$ and ${\gamma}$ forms of IMC were prepared using published methods. Powder X-ray diffraction profiles and NIR spectra were recorded for six kinds of standard materials with various content of ${\gamma}$ form IMC. The principal component regression (PCR) analyses were performed based on normalized NIR spectra sets of standard samples of known content of IMC ${\gamma}$ form. A calibration equation was determined to minimize the root mean square error of the prediction. The predicted ${\gamma}$ form content values were reproducible and had a relatively small standard deviation. The values of ${\gamma}$ form content predicted by two methods were in close agreement. The results were indicated that NIR spectroscopy provides for an accurate quantitative analysis of crystallinity in polymorphs compared with the results obtained by conventional powder X-ray diffractometry.

  • In this paper, we propose a new descriptor for 3D model retrieval based on shape information. The proposed method consists of two steps including ray casting method and spherical harmonic function, considering geometric properties of model. In the ray casting method, an adaptive sampling is performed for external shape information. By increasing shape information included in the descriptor, we improve the discriminating power of the proposed descriptor. The coefficients of spherical harmonic function are adaptively calculated, considering geometric frequency characteristics. This makes the descriptor more compact and concise without decreasing the retrieval performance. By combining two methods, we achieve more improved retrieval results.

  • Radiation streaming through penetrations has been of great concern in radiation shielding design and analysis. This study developed a Monte Carlo method and constructed a data library of results calculated by the Monte Carlo method for radiation streaming through a straight cylindrical duct in concrete walls of a broad, mono-directional, mono-energetic gamma-ray beam of unit intensity. It was demonstrated that average dose rate due to an isotropic point source at arbitrary positions can be well approximated using the library with acceptable error. Thus, the library can be used for efficient analysis of radiation streaming due to arbitrary distributions of gamma-ray sources.
