  • Conversion and oil-yield of a used automotive tire sample in supercritical decomposition and extraction for three solvents such as water, 28% ammoina solution and ammonia, were compared. Supercritical extraction with ammonia gave the highest conversion and oil-yield at the same temperature and pressure. In this paper, supercritical ammonia was used as major solvent and tetralin acting as hydrogen-donor, was used as cosolvent. As the amount of tetralin increased, oil-yield was Increased. When a tire sample was extracted by supercritical ammonia, oil-yield was 48.8% at $280^{\circ}C$, 22.3MPa. But when the weight ratio of tetralin to tire sample (weight of tetralin/weight of tire sample) was 5, oil-yield was 61.2% at $280^{\circ}C$ and 22.3 MPa. These phenomena indicate that as radicals produced in supercritical decomposition become stable, the polymerization and the second decomposition of products may be inhibited. Supercritical extraction of a tire sample swollen by tetralin gave high oil-yield although the amount of tetralin was a little.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the possibility of solid particles as a stabilizing agent instead of surfactant for preparing emulsions in the cosmetics. The type of emulsions stabilized by solid particles was dependent on wettability of the particles for water and oil. The optimal conditions of emulsions stabilized by solid particles were determined with ratio of water and oil phase, polarity of oils and amount of stabilizers. In the foundation appling the optimal condition of emulsions stabilized by solid particles without surfactant, the stable emulsion type foundation was successfully prepared. As a result, this work indicates that emulsions stabilized by solid particles can be applied to make-up cosmetics.

  • The decrease in under keel clearance (UKC) due to the increase of draft that occurs during advancing and turning of very large vessels of different types was analyzed based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The trim change in the Duisburg test case (DTC) container ship was much smaller than that of the KRISO very large crude oil carrier 2 (KVLCC2). The sinkage of both ships increased gradually as the water depth became shallower. The amount of sinkage change in DTC was greater than that in KVLCC2. The maximum heel angle was much larger for DTC than for KVLCC2. Both ships showed outward heel angles up to medium-deep water. However, when the water depth became shallow, an inward heel was generated by the shallow water effect. The inward heel increased rapidly in very shallow water. For DTC, the reduction ratio was very large at very shallow water. DTC appeared to be larger than KVLCC2 in terms of the decreased UKC because of shallow water in advancing and turning. In this study, a new result was derived showing that a ship turning in a steady state due to the influence of shallow water can incline inward, which is the turning direction.

  • In this study, the effects of the mixing ratio of emulsified fuel on the droplet evaporation and spray behavior characteristics were analyzed. A surfactant comprising span 80 and tween 80 mixed at a 9:1 ratio was used for the emulsified fuel. The fuel and surfactant were mixed at a ratio of 3:1 for the emulsified fuel. In addition, considering the mixing ratio of the surfactant, the mixing ratio of $H_2O_2$ in the emulsified fuel was set as EF (emulsified fuel)0, EF2, EF12, EF22, EF32, and EF42. To observe the evaporation characteristics, droplets of the emulsified fuel were dropped on a heating plate and observed using scattered light and a Schlieren system. In addition, to analyze the effect of the $H_2O_2$ mixing ratio, the behavior characteristics of the evaporative free spray were investigated in the mixing ratio range of EF0 to EF22 using a constant volume chamber with heaters. Consequentially, it was found that in the case of EF22, the free spray development of the emulsified fuel was faster than that of EF0 (diesel only) because of the promotion of the evaporation due to the phase change in the peroxide contained in the emulsion fuel.

  • The application of starch-based films is limited by the poor water vapor barrier and mechanical properties. In this study, plasticized octenyl-succinated corn starch (OTPS) was mixed into Poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) with various concentration (0/0.25/0.5/0.75 wt%) of epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) to enhance the mechanical properties and the hydrophobicity of blends. Tensile Strength and elongation at break of PBAT/OTPS film was slightly strengthened as the added ratio of ESO raised to 0.5 wt%, yet lessened again in 0.75 wt% sample. The yield strength and elastic modulus were highest in 0.25wt% of ESO added. In thermal properties, the melting temperature (Tm) and crystallization temperature (Tc) were highest at ESO 0.25 and the maximum degradation temperature (Tmax) of components of the films were developed as ESO added. Also, it has been proved that the addition of hydrophobic substances reduces the hydrophilicity of the film by contact angle. This suggests the use of epoxidized oil for preparing films based on high TPS content allows obtaining enhanced interfacial adhesion. This study confirmed that ESO acts as a compatibilizer between OTPS and PBAT to improve the mechanical properties and hydrophobicity of the sample. The sample containing 0.5wt% of ESO was the most suitable for packaging application.

  • Super water-absorbent resins were prepared by inverse suspension copolymerization of sodium acrylate, acrylamide and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate using N, N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide as cross-linker. For the suspension copolymerization, monohexadecyl phosphate was employed as the dispersing agent, cyclohexane as the dispersing medium and potassium persulfate as the initiator. The dependence of water-absorption capacity on the amount of crosslinking agent, oil/water ratio, degree of neutralization and the composition of the copolymer were systematically investigated. Furthermore, the swelling kinetics of the super water-absorbent copolymer was carried out. The absorption of the resins is more than 1800 g/g for deionized water and 100 g/g for 0.9% NaCl solution, respectively. The copolymers showed an increased salt resistance and enhanced water retention of soil.

  • The main purpose of this study was to derive managerial priority for pollutants in drinking water using the Delphi technique and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method. We collected fundamental existing items based on a literature review for water pollutants, and deduced a total of 36 sub-items from nine core sectors, as follows: organic matter; inorganic substances; pathogenic organisms; chemicals; heavy metals; radioactive substances; sediment deposits; heat; and oil, and then conducted the first round of an expert study to ensure that objective indicators properly evaluate major issues for management of for drinking water quality. In the following round, the necessity and importance assessments of adjusted items were implemented using a content validity ratio index. Finally, items modified by Delphi surveys were applied to AHP. We computed weighted values by pair-wise comparison of sub-items and each of five sectors modified by the second round. According to the results of AHP, the managerial priority for pollutants in drinking water was as follows; while heavy metal placed first in importance, pathogenic organisms came second, followed by inorganic substances, organic matter and chemical substances from the sector perspective.

  • The W/O emulsion is widely used for cosmetics because of its water-proofing benefit and long-lasting moisturizing effect. However, because of low stability of the W/O emulsion, it is very important to control the concentration of electrolyte and emulsifying agent, and ratio of water phase. Among these factors, we focused on the effects of different structures of emulsifying agents on the change of stability. Emulsifying agents were sorted into polyglyceryl ester, silicone and sugar series. We also examined the emulsifyingability of emulsifier by changing the ratio of normal and silicon oil in the oil phase. Through these experimental results, we figured out the property of w/o emulsion depending on the types of emulsifiers, and observed the stability of emulsion considering the change of particles and viscosity over time.

  • A high speed NMR quality evaluation sensor was designed , constructed and tested . The device consists of an NMR spectrometer coupled to a conveyor system. The conveyor was run at speeds ranging from 0 to 250 mm/s. Spectral of avocado fruits and one-dimensional magnetic resonance images of pickled olives were acquired while the samples were moving on a conveyor belt mounted through a 20Tesla NMR magnet with a 20 mm diameter surface coil and a 150 mm diameter imaging coil respectively. Fro a magnetic resonance spectrum analysis, motion through variations in the magnetic field tends to narrow spectral line width just like using sample rotation in high resolution NMR to narrow spectral line width. Spectrum analysis was used to detect the dry weight of avocado fruits using the ratio oil and water resonance peaks. Good correlations maximum r=0.970@ 50 mm/s and minimum r=0.894@250mm/s ) between oil and water resonance peak ratio and dry weight of avocados were observed at speeds ra ging from0 to 250mm/s. For the application of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) method, the projections were used to distinguish between pitted and non-pitted olives . Effect of fruit position in the coil was tested and coil degree effects were noticed when projects were generated under dynamic conditions. Various belt speeds (up to 250mm/s) were tested and detection results were compared to static measurements. Higher classification errors were occurred at dynamic conditions compared to errors while olives were at rest.
