Variation in diet and the rates of colorectal cancers have confounded researchers in recent years. Comparisons of populations in different geographic locations and of different ethnic origins have shown considerable differences in disease frequency, location and relation to diet. This paper revisits an earlier comparison of Maori rates of disease and diet based on data from 20 years ago with surprising changes in disease rates today.

As the air pollution caused by diesel vehicles goes worse, so non-road vehicles exhaust gas standard is strict in an foreign countries. In this paper, we calculate the amount of emission rates from Korean railroad lines and train kinds. Air pollutants emissions are calculated using by US EPA baseline in-use emission rates which is divided line-haul and switch mode. The calculated HC emissions on the railroad diesel vehicles are 1,209.1 t from Korean railroad lines.

Classification as a tool to extract information from data plays an important role in science and engineering. Among various classification methodologies, support vector machine has recently seen significant developments. The central problem this paper addresses is the accuracy of support vector machine. In particular, we are interested in the situations where fast rates of convergence to the Bayes risk can be achieved by support vector machine. Through learning examples, we illustrate that support vector machine may yield fast rates if the space spanned by an adopted kernel is sufficiently large.

This paper is about the local volatility for the price of a European quanto call option. We derive the explicit formula of the local volatility with constant foreign and domestic interest rates by adapting the methods of Dupire and Derman & Kani. Furthermore, we obtain the Dupire equation for the local volatility with stochastic interest rates.

Face recognition technology has lately attracted considerable attention because of its non-intrusiveness, usability and applicability. Related companies insist that their commercial products show the recognition rates more than 95% according to their self-testing. But, the rates cannot be admitted as official recognition rates. So, performance evaluation methods and tools are necessary to objectively measure the accuracy and performance of face recognition systems. In this paper, I propose a reference model for biometrics recognition evaluation tools, and implement an evaluation tool for the face recognition system based on the proposed reference model.

We described the impact ionization rates of electron in GaAs/AlGaAs MQH(multi- quantum well) using EMC(ensenble Monte Carlo) simulation. Hot electron energy of injected into quantum well is increasing nearly liearly due to the applied electric field to the barrier of MQM inspite of various Al mole fraction in AlGaAs or barrier width. Impact ionization rates are decreasing exponentially by increasing Al mole fraction, and they have peak vague due to the barrier width.

Color Doppler flow mapping (CDFM) was performed on an $\underline{in\;vitro}$ experimental setup with a regurgitant moving orifice using the proximal isovelocity surface area (PISA) technique. PISA flow rates underestimated actual flow rates by as much as 65%, which is very important in diagnosing patients with valvular regurgitations or stenosis. The correction factor considering the velocity of the orifice improved the PISA flow rates.

We adopt the P/sub λ, T//sup M/ policy of dam to introduce a service policy with alternating service rates for a Poisson arrival queue, in which the service rate alternates depending on the number of customers in the system. The stationary distribution of the number of customers in the system is derived and, after operating costs being assigned to the system, the optimization of the policy is studied.

The elastic moduli and dissolution rates of 15 glasses with different mole ratios of sodium-magnasium-phosphate as potential non-toxic biomaterials were investigated. In this study, a 3-pint bending test, sonic resonance technique, and theoretical calculation were used to evaluate the modulus of elasticity. The dissolution rates at 37$^{\circ}C$(human body temperature) were determined by the measurement of mass changes in each sample for 24 weeks.
